EC looks good through one half against Loyola, down by 15 but playing fast and showing toughness.  6-13 from 3.

Paulson's game was enough to get me to pick him up in one of the fantasy leagues. I now have Feehan, Long, Butler and Paulson all on one team!  ;D  :D  :P

EC falls to Loyola Chicago, 96-69....BUT

only 12 turnovers... far better than prior SLIAC exhibition efforts...

badly outrebounded, it's gonna happen vs this level...

Feehan 17, Dehm 11, Thomas 10

That toughness included going down 14-3 just a few minutes in to the game before fighting back to within 3.  Impressive.

The press release talked about a road trip.  If the team had to drive 14 hours to Texas and then 14 hours back and then a few more to Chicago on gameday.  Or, directly to Chicago from Texas, either way...

I know these guys are young, but that is a lot of time in a bus to play teams at home.

I didn't want Davis since I already had Feehan. They were teammates at the time we drafted.

ok you need a 5th for an all SLIAC... you already have a Mac, a Eureka, a Prin, and a Iowa Wez..

that leaves:
Webster.... no
Fontbonne....Lake, but no
Spalding... Rowe, no, no consistancy
Blackburn....no
Greenville... who knows, a new face could come in and average 20 with the system
Westminster...  you could have 6 different guys averaging 10-12 ppg

nope, unless you pair up Davis with Long, I'd say the pickin's are slim... ;D ;D ;D

Well, Davis is already taken anyway. FIY, I did select Shea Feehan as an All-American in the pool at the end of the year. Probably a big stretch, but he puts up big numbers and hopefully Eureka can contend for the SLIAC title and get some recognition.

Not an unreasonable choice at all... not a top 3 teamer, but good candidate for 4th, or HM...

Webster at UMSL (U of Missouri St. Louis - a D2 school) tonight in exhibition for the Gorlocks, regular season home opener for UMSL.... I'm not paying much attention to the result, heck Umsl beat Grand Valley the other day... but it will be very interesting to see who takes the court for Webster... I've had no contact at all with the coaching staff, so I'm so curious to see if little used subs from last year will start out showing what they can do, or if new faces have already quickly passed them by... Certainly 2 likely starters are Enrique Tankins and Michael Dunn, the only names on the roster that have any real experience.. after that, who knows.... note, though Tankins didn't get a lot of playing time last year, he did play pretty solid when he got the chance... look for nice numbers from him now that he is 'full-time'.

7 of 10 SLIAC teams open tomorrow night, the first night of the D3 regular season.

Two have home openers:
MacMurray hosts Monmouth
Eureka has Robert Morris-Springfield

The other 5 are on the road:
Fontbonne at Illinois Wesleyan
Greenville at Transylvania
Iowa Wesleyan at Coe
Westminster at Simpson
Spalding at Berea

Principia, Blackburn and Webster each start their seasons on Friday night in weekend 2 night tourneys..

Hopefan, close to 1000 miles from the nearest SLIAC game (ok, closer than that to Spalding/Berea), will travel on Wednesday night to Tampa, to see Eckerd College vs the U of Tampa... an outstanding D2 game... have no fear SLIAC fans, hopefan will be there starting next Tuesday!!

In a shocking turn of events, FCGrizzlies followed my lead and has Feehan on his AA team too. He doubled down and included Feehan's former teammate, Kendall Davis as well.

Let's take a quick look at SLIAC openers on Wednesday night..

Fontbonne at Illinois Wesleyan      I have no doubt that this one will be ugly... Illinois Wesleyan is picked 4th in the CCIW, one of the top 5 conferences in D3... Coming off a lopsided exhibition win vs Transylvania.... Call it a learning experience for the young Fontbonne squad..

Greenville at Transylvania     Transylvania picked 3rd in the HCAC... four starters back from a team that was 17-10 last year.  Greenville beat them last year, but we know that they lost 8 of top 10 from that squad thru graduation, a great senior class.  Can new faces step right in and pick up where the Panthers left off.. It will probably take time... very interesting test....But I'd lean heavily towards Transy...

Iowa Wesleyan at Coe....  Coe picked 8th in IIAC.... Coe was 10-15 last year, didn't play any SLIAC teams...They lose 2 starters to graduation, but a pretty solid core of players return.. likely start at least 6'9", 6'6", 6'5"...  We know Iowa Wesleyan has 2 solid starters in Brock Butler and Mitch Drey, but then what... A positive result for Iowa Wez will be a huge surprise... I'm not expecting it...

Westminster at Simpson... Simpson picked 5 in IIAC... Were 16-10 last year, didn't play any SLIAC teams...Roster shows us that leading scorer, 6'5" Sam Amspaugh, is returning, but no other starter back from last year.  It would seem that Westmin's experience guard oriented lineup would have an edge here... but.. typical question of a pretty even matchup between SLIAC high ranking team vs mid level conference mid to low ranking team.  Will be nice win if Westmin can get it... surely hoping that if Jimmy Villabalos didn't play in the exhibition, that he's back for this one....

Eureka hosts Robert Morris Springfield... RMS is 2-2 this season... two more wins than they had all season last year... no stats on their site... wins over Central Christian, Kansas Christian.... Let's hope they don't measure up to any SLIAC team... confident in an Eureka win...

Monmouth at MacMurray....  Monmouth picked 6th in MWC, were 6-17 last year, but of course Mac was 5-20.  Monmouth lost 89-86 last year to a pretty good Eureka team.  Monmouth has 4 starters back, 3 top scorers.  Mac is hopefan's preseason favorite to win the SLIAC with 3 potential All Conference starters... this is the SLIAC game of the night... I go with Mac, very close....because it's what I want to happen... the question is, with Mike Cameron back from injury after a season's absence, Kendall Davis new to team, has Coach Creal put it all together this early in the season....

Spalding at Berea.... Berea picked 5 of 6 in the USAC West.. were 17-10 last year and beat Spalding by 15.  But they lose 4 starters, the four highest scorers from last year...a lot to replace... but Spalding is such a mystery this year... would be another good SLIAC win, let's give it to them....
Sounds like hopefan is predicting a 4-3 opening night for the SLIAC.....   hmmmmmm.. could easily be 2-5....

I'll go in the middle, 3-4 with Iowa Wesleyan, Eureka and MacMurray getting the W's.

Well, I can't play Feehan against a non-D3 team,  so he sits out a week.  I'm playing Butler this weekend Vs Aurora, hoping he can put up some big numbers because Aurora doesn't play defense, even though I expect Iowa Wesleyan to be playing from behind. Coe may be a better option since IWU may actually have a chance to win that one. I am playing Long against Monmouth, while Paulson and Principia have to wait until this weekend.
