Now that I've stopped laughing over Ypsi's comment...

As one or two of you know, I'll be taking in a lot of SLIAC action on the internet this season, so I find it reasonable to comment on the productions I'm watching... Tonight Blackburn at Principia... and wow, The viewing is great!!!  Camera keeping up with all the action, the scoreboard is almost always visible, and while the announcer gets a bit corny with humor, it's obvious he's done a lot of homework... knows the names of the Blackburn players as well as the hometeam Prin.. giving us all the info we need including how many points scorers have etc... and made a couple of very realistic observations about shot selections, turnovers etc.... he has mentioned the short Prin Bench, but hasn't told us specifically about the injury to Peyton Sellers or the outlook... other than that, just great!!!!  you get a 95 out of 100 Prin!!!!

Greek Tragedy

Rare opportunity to watch AND listen to a live game online, and it's quite enjoyable. The announcer is entertaining.

That was the first time I've watched Principia in years, and I have to say that I was quite impressed. It's basically just three guys taking turns driving to the basket, but, hey ... it works. Blackburn was totally unable to stop the Panthers, at either end of the floor, and the Beavers are a pretty quick team. Those three Panthers just went right past them or around them every time.

So Prin beats BC 80-66... and yes I rooted for Prin the whole way... 5 players only... announcer Eisenauer said player Eisenauer ill, Sellers injured, no excuse for other two on the bench, but Coach Z went with 5, period... and really almost only needed 3... Micah Paulson 24, Trevon Goodman 23, Parker Davidson 23... Ross and Brennan Paulson did little positive for 35 minutes, but came through with big hoops in the last 5....  I groaned over quick shots in last 4 minutes, but son of a gun, Prin made everything.... Blackburn should win this game, but just didn't look good.. lots of missed 3's, lots of missed free throws, lots of missed passes to open men as Coach Kollar had fits on the sideline.... Blackburn needs to play better or they will quickly plummet in the standings....one plus, I thought their press looked good, but why they didn't attack Jeff Ross, I'll never know... he rescued Prin many times, and he is anything but sure handed....

So by the time the SLIAC games kick tip off, Stevens Point will probably be getting killed by halftime at River Falls. This should give me an opportunity it check in on my guys. I picked up Brent Long over the break and anticipate a huge game from him in Greenville. I can also check on Eureka to actually see Feehan play. I did drop Wands over the break and that was before I knew he got injured. He was averaging just around 28 fantasy points a game, so he had to go. I had a tougher time dropping Brock Butler because he has been averaging a good 32 fpts, but he lacked games over the break. I'll be keeping an eye on him as there are a few guys currently on my team that will have to produce to keep a roster spot.

In unrelated news, it's comforting to know I've been mispronouncing PRIN-CI-PE-A wrong for the last 10 years or so, not PRINCE-I-PEE-A. At least I can pronounce Weyauwega, Ashwaubenon and Winneconne correctly, I think.

Don't sweat it, Tom. It took me forever to learn how to pronounce Buena Vista, Amherst, and Willamette properly. None of them is pronounced the way that the typical outsider would think that they are.

Don't feel too bad, almost everyone from Missouri pronounces their own state wrong.

Nope, no upsets tonight... Westmin, Webster, Greenville, and Eureka all win relatively easily at home, and all of a sudden, there seems to be a legit pecking order established in the standings.... Details later...

oh, nice video on Greenville game, but no announcing, which may have been just as well given the pace of the game... also showed the score on screen, and stats were easily accessible... good job...
Eureka also nice video, had to turn the audio off as announcers were woeful...
nothing but stats from Westminster and Webster.... why?

As exhausted as MacMurray played against Greenville, how in the world will Principia do it next week with only 5 players?  Evan Eisenauer better be ready... actually a heady little guard like him may be a big help against Greenville... note, Trevaughn Goodman had 38 when Prin upset Greenville last year...

And oh  who is Sonti Grady?    We are quickly learning.....

As exhausted as MacMurray played against Greenville, how in the world will Principia do it on Saturday with only 5 players?  Evan Eisenauer better be ready... actually a heady little guard like him may be a big help against Greenville... note, Trevaughn Goodman had 38 when Prin upset Greenville last year...

The Webster win wasn't as easy as the 10 point margin might suggest. Two very different halves of basketball. A much faster paced first half with some hot shooting by both teams in the early going. IWU cooled off more than Webster late in the half and the Gorloks had 45 points and a 12 point halftime lead. Webster used a lot of players in the first half. Things slowed down in the second half. Webster had an 11 point lead with nine minutes to go but IWU chipped away and tied it at 66 with about four and a half minutes left. Crespo hit a three on the next possession and Webster kept the lead and was able to win it at the free throw line in the finall minute.

There was a great sequence late in the first half where Davian Joseph got a steal near mid court and a dunk over a defender. IWU inbounded and passed the ball quickly up court, got it to a guy under the basket and Joseph comes flying in and blocks the shot cleanly, but got whistled for a foul when his arm came down and hit the shooter's head. Still amazing that he got all the way back to make that play.

Thanks Y-Jack... hadn't noticed that Iowa Wez had come all the way back to tie... not a good sign for the Gorlocks to let the weakest team in the conference stay that close... but then, parity is a good thing, maybe I shouldn't refer to Iowa Wesleyan in that  manner.... the ever changing special appearance menu of Iowa Wez continued last night, as Elijah Johnson showed up, Mitch Drey again a no-show... sure wish a faithful Iowa Wez reader could straighten us out about this ongoing mystery....

YJack  -  it appears 2 of the 6 international students that Iowa Wesleyan brought in were on the court last night... Fernandes and Rebel... could you remember how they looked, will they contribute over 4 years... could you tell if any of the other 4 were dressed to play?   Very Curious...

Anyway, Butler goes for 22 and the previously mentioned Rebel has 15...but not enough...Nigel Wilcox has his first big game in a while for the Gorlocks, finishing with 18, Josh Johnson a big night with 15 points,8 rebounds, 4 assists....

Mac stayed with Greenville for a while, but clearly ran out of gas in the 2nd half as Greenville got hot from 3's and ran away, 140-122... Brent Long a huge night for the fantasy players, 38 points, 10 boards.... but Sonti Grady for Greenville puts on a show from the arc, 8 for 9, 28 points, Johari Dix great night too, 18 points, 7 assists, 1 turnover.

Eureka over Spalding 77-58... Shea Feehan 31 points, 5 boards, no turnovers... not much else to say.... Hank Thomas chips in 16... everyone else does what they need to do to win... stays even with Spalding on the boards, Eureka only 6 turnovers...

Westmin over Fontbonne, 79-60... huge night for Colin Caywood , 9 for 12 from 3's, 29 points, 6 boards... in absence of injured Kobe Wands... Big Bro Carter Wands has sensational night, 14 points, 10 assists, 7 steals no turnovers....Luke DeLine nice night for the Griffs, 19 points, 8 boards, but 7 turnovers...This was a close single digit margin game for over 30 minutes, but then Westmin pulled away....

What's it look like after last night?
How about
top group    Eureka, Greenville, Westminster
scrap for 4th   Blackburn, Webster, Principia
still a threat   MacMurray, Spalding
not this year  Fontbonne, Iowa Wesleyan

Both guys were fine. Rebel is a wide body guy, kind of like former Gorlok Kevin Miller, so easier to see what he's doing on the court. Not quite as graceful as Miller was for a guy that size, but not awkward, either. Overall I thought the Tigers played well, moved the ball well offensively, just didn't make enough shots. They can compete in conference as shown by the win at Blackburn and will win some more conference games -- maybe even a few upsets.
