Here it is... through 8 games, hopefan's All Conference teams..based on performance in conference games only... note some 'extrapolation' was necessary due to the postponement of the Greenville Spalding game... not much impact... also, Kobe Wands is taken out, due to missing 4 games... he would have been first team had he continued his performance from the first four games...Also remember... turnovers, poor shooting performance, lack of positives besides scoring, have a negative impact on hopefan's system

First team
Feehan Eureka
Butler IWU
Long Mac
Davidson Prin
Dix Greenville

Second team
Williams Spalding
Ellis Spalding
M Paulson Prin
Wilcox Webster
Tankins Webster

Third Team
Woodcock Fontbonne
Goodman Prin
Scott BC
Carter Wands Westmin
Thomas Eureka

HM.... close to third team
Grady Greenville
King BC
DeLine Fontbonne
McCan, Fontbonne
Drey IWU
Hollandsworth Westmin
Hayes BC
Crespo Webster
Price Greenville
Johnson Webster

So briefly, what happened yesterday...

Yjack told us about Webster-Blackburn... His writeup was a little more glowing than I would have done, as I thought Neither team played up to capabilities... Webster allowing BC to tie in regulation was just sad,  seemingly panic amongst younger inexperienced players... I guess to be expected...still a crucial win for Webster, a loss that puts BC back a game from a conference slot... Josh Johnson shot poorly from the field, but his free throw performance, 16/16 some at crucial times, was admirable... and I thought Enrique Tankins really stepped up, was a leader, and had a great game, 18 pts, 10 rebs, 4 assists... Reed Rusten led BC with 17... you want to see perfect pure shooting form, check Rusten out... BC needs to make more opportunities for him on the perimeter...

Eureka won a high scoring run and gun game over Iowa Wesleyan... poor IWU, just like Fontbonne, very competitive in so many games, just can't get over the hump...Brock Butler 40 minutes, 32 points 10 rebounds, 0 turnovers.. does it get any better?  Jake Neubauer has a career game too, 28 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists...  the usual for Eureka, Feehan 28, Bennington 23, Thomas 18... but don't overlook Ryan McElmurry, whose career day of 16 points, 11 assists was marred only by another Technical...

MacMurray stuns Westminster... the bubble has really burst for Westminster the last couple of games, simply unable to generate enough offense to beat, maybe, anyone in the conference.. I feel so bad for this group, riddled by player losses due to academics and injury.... for Mac, as I said earlier, a crazy win, Brent Long takes one shot, this for the unknowing, is a guy averaging something like 25 points per game... but Kendall Davis to the rescue, best game of the year, the old form from last season, goes for 23, Mike Cameron chips in with 20... A revitalizing win for Mac, maybe they can build on this one to help rescue their season... Westmin gets a nice game off the bench from Steven Brandt, 21 points, 10 boards, fast developing into one of the top 5 frosh in the conference....

Finally Prin beats Fontbonne... Prin left alot on the floor in the great game vs Greenville, and came out totally flat... finally got going after a totally bland first half...still Fontbonne stayed with them the whole game... as usual (2nd time I've used that today), Prin led by Micah Paulson and Trevon Goodman both with 23, Parker Davidson with 17...But the same 3 contribute 12 turnovers...  GREAT to see Payton Sellers return to the court, he chips in with 11... on the other hand, we note Luke DeLine does not play for Fontbonne, can only hope he is able to get back soon... Jared Woodcock leads the Griffs with 19, Eric Schark has a career day with 17 points and 11 boards...

Let's get the old hopefan standings going

for now, splitting the league into 7 contenders, 3 non contenders Mac, Fontbonne, Iowa Wesleyan)

Contenders are expected to win at home against everyone, and not lose to non contenders at home or away

+1 for a road win vs a contender
-1 for a home loss to a contender
-1 for any loss to a non contender

Blackburn  -1   loss to Iowa Wesleyan     (note BC losses to Webster, Spalding, Principia were all on the road)

Greenville   0    all results as they should be

Eureka       +1    won at Westminster

Principia      0   all results as they should be

Spalding     -2       lost at home to Westminster, lost to MacMurray

Webster       0   all results as they should be

Westminster -1   lost to MacMurray, won at Spalding, lost at home to Eureka

so far, the real key to things are 3 losses to non contenders....and Spalding is the only team now that needs to make up 2 games to get to 0... they need 2 wins vs contenders on the road....

Also, what this says, for those less mathematically inclined, is that if everyone plays to form the rest of the way out (beat non-contenders, win at home vs contenders, lose on road vs contenders), the conf tourney seedings would be 1. Eureka  2/3/4 Webster, Prin, Greenville....... BC, WC, Spalding would be out....

at Westminster... Mac 79   Westmin  72....  and Brent Long, 24 minutes, 0-1 from the field, 9 rebounds....slightly ill?  slight injury???  No way it was the Mac game plan, and I can't conceive it was Westmin defense... and Mac WINS!!??   How Bizarre.....

What in the world? I would love to know what happened. I have Long on my fantasy team. Luckily I didn't play him this weekend. I picked up Bennington since he's stealing all of Feehan's points. I figure if I have both, I'll get big points from at least one of them.

As a stats guy, I'd probably swap Paulson and Davidson. I'm also surprised you only have Goodman on the 3rd team.

Some kind words from Titan Q. Not sure if you get over to the fantasy leagues, hopefan, so I copied and pasted here for you.

I don't know where this Bennington guy came from, but he's stealing all of Feehan's points.  He's had 30+ the last two games  So if I figure I have both, I should be ok, because I'm not dropping Feehan!

A great HS player from the Peoria, IL area.  Was recruited by many D2s and had some D1 contact as well.  Any CCIW school would have loved to land Dakota Bennington out of HS...same for Shea Feehan.

Without divulging too much "top secret data", I'll say Davidson, along with Long, Feehan and Butler are way ahead of everyone else in my system... Dix slipped in to the first team barely on top of everyone else... Paulson could earn that spot, Goodman could easily slid into second team... Goodman gets hurt by turnovers (4.8 per game) and lots of missed free throws..as well as having to share performance points with teammates Davidson and Paulson...I'll also note that none of the 3 Prin guys received any performance points in Prin's loss at Westminster... that night, Prin lost 73-53, Paulson had 19 points but went 7-19 from the field, 4-14 from 3's with  8 turnovers, Goodman had 8 points with 5 turnovers, Davidson had 6 points, 11 rebounds and a technical foul... hardly all conference that night... the only Prin player who earned anything that night was Jeff Ross who had 13 points and 8 rebounds...

Trevaughn Goodman and Micah Paulson make Principia one of only four teams in D3 that have two players who average 20 ppg or more, the other teams being Becker, Ohio Northern, and Minnesota-Morris. What I find interesting is that that's not particularly a recipe for success; Principia is 6-8, Becker is 7-7, and Minnesota-Morris is 7-8, with only ONU really making a showing thus far this season at 11-4.

On the other hand, this is altered somewhat by the two other teams that are just outside of this category; the second-leading scorer for Ohio Wesleyan (11-4) just misses qualifying at 19.9 ppg, and the top two scorers for Drew (11-4) averaging 19.9 ppg and 19.7 ppg.

Trevaughn Goodman, Micah Paulson, and Jeff Ross are really good players. But they make Principia a classic illustration of how necessary it is to have three, four, or five competent role players in order to make a good team.

I'm thinking that it's likely Greg either mixed up Jeff Ross with Parker Davidson or at least unintentionally neglected to mention Davidson... it is Davidson who brings Prin to close to having 3 players averaging 20... he's averaging 16.1 per game, and 18.9 in 8 conference games.. His 18.9 ppg, 11 rpg and only 1.9 TO/game, along with shooting 68% from the field, is why he is on my First Team All Conference to date

Controversy.... you want it, you got it... here

I really feel that the SLIAC, and D3hoops.com... had the wool pulled over their eyes by rewarding Prin's Trevaughn Goodman SLIAC player of the week and a spot on D3's Team of the week. honors... the 43 points, triple double is impressive, but consider this.. it was against Greenville, where if you beat one person, you beat them all, Goodmans points were mostly layups... the glossy numbers don't show that Goodman missed 10 free throws and had 5 turnovers, 2 in the last 30 seconds that cost Prin the game... a game they could have won...AND I could show at least 5 times when Goodman could have dropped the ball off for wide open layups by a teammate rather than being fouled and going to the line...  the other game, vs Fontbonne... heck, Prin struggled to beat the last place team in the conference, Fontbonne, and Goodman once again had 5 turnovers..  I love that the SLIAC got the recognition, but.....

In my ratings for All Conference, Parker Davidson got more performance points for the week than did Goodman... Davidson was 26 for 32 from the field, 54 points, 23 rebounds for the two games....and 6 turnovers...

And as far as Player of the Week goes for the SLIAC, I feel that the major point of emphasis should be contribution to a positive Team Performance... Eureka and Webster both won two games... best individual performance for those two teams would go to Dakota Bennington of Eureka... 17-26 from the field, 10-11 from the line, 48 points, 13 rebounds....
A close second would have been Nigel Wilcox of Webster...28 points, 22 rebounds, and 8 blocks... the 8 blocks all in the ot win vs BC
And if you want another deserving consideration, how about Brock Butler.. IWU gets its 2nd conference win, gives Eureka a good game, and Butler goes for 65 points and 18 rebounds, with only 1 turnover....

Sorry, I just think Goodman's numbers were significantly skewed by the Greenville game......and his end of the game performance/turnovers/ missed fts didn't merit the top prize....

I'll agree with you on this one. I used to have Goodman and Kobe Wands on my fantasy teams and I got flack fo keeping Wands over Goodman. As you pointed out, his turnovers and missed free throws kill him. He coughs up the ball more than my cat coughs up hairballs. I'm still finding hairballs and I haven't had my cat for 10 years...and I've moved twice. I haven't checked out the TOTW and I don't keep track of other players' numbers if I don't have them on my team or radar, but you make valid points, especially Goodman's numbers Bing given the System benefit. Had he put up those same or similar numbers vs Fontbonne, there'd be a better argument. As oyu said though, nice to get the recognition.

We know full well what numbers are like when teams play against System opponents. No wool here. Sorry that recognizing the SLIAC causes you angst.  :)
