Mac beats Spalding , 87-74... Watched the 2nd half... Cameron really makes this team go, Long the great finisher... I wish Mac would have gotten things together a little earlier in the season, hoping it's not TOO late....Stats just came up... WHAT A 3 MAN SHoW!!
Kendall Davis... 21 points,  7 Assists, 0 turnovers
Mike Cameron... 20 pts, 4 bounds 8 assists...(5 Turnovers)
Brent Long... 12 for 14, 27 points, 15 rebs, 4 assists

Spalding loses it at the foul line, shoots only 6 ft, makes 3, all night....????

I've moved people out of the contender group when doing hopefan standings, but I will certainly have to now move MacMurray INTO the contender group and restate things.... :o :o
Other games start in a little while...

Greek Tragedy

So Eureka gets hammered 97-77, DeLine is playing for Fontbonne. I really thought about starting him in the One and Done League with the assumption he wasn't playing. I didn't make that  move, but played Coddington instead. Now Coddington is suffering statistically because DeLine is actually playing!

Fontbonne was up about 20 on Greenville, but it's 16 at the half.

In my defense, I went to the Eureka men's site and it was listed as a 97-77 loss. Later I went back to see if the boxscore was up yet and then it showed livestats etc...so it was changed. Feehan down, not good.

Webster holds on for the one point win. Eureka fouled with about 24 seconds left up 1. They miss both FTs. Webster gets the ball, drives the lane, but gets fouled before the shot. Makes both FTs, leaving about 14 seconds left for Eureka to take the last shot down by 1. They "settle" for a 25-ft 3-pointer with 5 seconds left. What the heck?! Webster misses the front end of a 1 and 1, timeout by Eureka and then a baseball throw doesn't result in any kind of shot. Webster escapes.

What a night in the SLIAc.. Fontbonne beats Greenville in ot... GC helps by fouling with seconds left in regulation giving Fontbonne a 3 point play to tie...

Eureka finishes without Feehan, injury, without Thomas, injury, without Bennington, foul out... and Webster has McElmurry goat stew for supper...

Iowa Wesleyan Brock Butler makes miracle 3 after missed BC fts to get Wez to OT, but Blackburn pulls it out then....

And Mac wins again at Spalding....

not much else exciting, eh?

Will write more tomorrow, talk bout the standings... but the Ereka situation is critical if Thomas and Feehan are out....

The Greenville-Fontbonne game is also noteworthy for another reason

GRiNNELL WHO?   WE ARE IN THE RECORD BOOKS!!!!!  Nice thing is, this wasn't a blowout where a record was set because an opponent was weak... rather an exciting game the whole way... Greenville a tremendous comeback in the second half to send it in to overtime, Fontbonne a near perfect attack on the hoop in OT to win going away despite a poor performance from the foul line.... Final 164-154 Fontbonne in OT

hopefan standings after Wednesday 1/31/18 games

for now, splitting the league into 8 contenders, 3 non contenders (Fontbonne, Iowa Wesleyan)

Contenders are expected to win at home against everyone, and not lose to non contenders at home or away

+1 for a road win vs a contender
-1 for a home loss to a contender
-1 for any loss to a non contender

Eureka          +1   won at Westminster, Won at MacMurray, lost at home to MacMurray

Greenville     0   Won at Webster, Lost to Fontbonne

Westminster  0   lost to MacMurray at home, won at Spalding, lost at home to Eureka, won at Webster

Webster          0   lost at home to Greenville, lost at home to Westminster, won at Principia, won at MacMurray

Principia      -1  lost at home to Webster

Blackburn  -1   loss to Iowa Wesleyan,

MacMurray      -1  won at Eureka, lost at home to Eureka, won at Westminster, lost at home to Webster, won at Spalding, lost to Iowa Wesleya, Lost to
                          Fontbonne

Spalding     -3       lost at home to Westminster, lost at home to MacMurray, lost to Iowa Wesleyan

So why is Eureka currently in first place... because they have only one road game vs a contender remaining... meaning if that is their only loss, they will finish 12-6
Greenville on the other hand, has 3 road games vs contenders remaining.. if we assume losses on the road vs contenders, they finish 11-7
Westminster has 2 road games vs contenders remaining... if we assume losses, they finish 11-7 also..
Webster has 2 road games vs contenders remaining... if we assume losses, they finish 11-7 also..

Now, I realize that road wins are occurring... but it is a VERY interesting way to look at things...

Realistically, with Greenville playing at Mac, at Spalding, and at Prin, no road losses is a possibility, and certainly one or two wins is a probability... BUT... they just lost at home to 10th place Fontbonne..

That's why they play the games

I know I've been tough on Eureka (good grief...after McElMurry's T last night after getting  call AGAINST Webster, all the more reason)... but wow, am I hoping Feehan (ankle) and Thomas (I didn't see what happened as screen was frozen over that time frame) are ok... what a shame for the individual, the team, and the fans if they are out....hoping ECRed or other EC writers can keep us updated.... the Feehan injury was so innocent, up for a jump shot, feet somehow tangle, rolls the ankle....he was really flowing at the time, had 4 or 5 hoops in a row....

Thomas Injury appears to be a facial injury.. mouth or chin... he's made a move to attempt a layup, Wilcox goes up with a big wave for a block, and Thomas goes down like a ton of bricks... I've watched a no audio replay a dozen times and can't see the contact, but it obviously occurred...no foul call...I thought he had gotten an ankle or knee when he fell, and the camera moved to the Webster bench the whole time he was treated, but after action started again, it looked like he had towel or ice to chin/mouth area as he was further treated behind the bench...
If I'm wrong, please let me know...

^^^ Thomas hit the deck under the EC basket after having a shot blocked by Wilcox with 1:42 left. While the rest of the players headed back down court he just lay there. WU trainer came out when play was stopped. He might have cut his chin or had a nose bleed from the fall because the trainer was holding a towel to Thomas's face. He then got up and walked slowly to the stands behind the EC bench with the trainer next to him. I'm sure they were going to do concussion protocol as he looked groggy.

Very disappointing loss for Eureka. However, I suppose I need to give them some credit for nearly pulling out the win considering Feehan basically didn't play the 2nd half, Thomas got hurt and Bennington fouled out. They have guys attempting free throws and launching shots that, in all likelihood, normally don't do that, especially in crunch situations. It's a logjam now.
