Re: Webster...

I have been thinking about the game, but I have not seen enough of either team to come up with anything more than the obvious.  The WUSTL front court needs to play more like they did in the second half of the Illinois College game.  No need to come out and shoot the three.

The Bears should win the battle of the boards, but can they limit the turnovers as they did on Saturday?  Not sure what Webster did to force UMSL in to committing 19 turnovers, but that would be tough for Washington University to overcome.

For Webster to compete on the boards Wilcox will have to do better than the three rebounds he got against UMSL. Their big guy, who got eight rebounds, looked to be 3-4 inches taller than Wilcox. Not that they were both on the floor at the same time for all of those. Defending against three point shooting, often a problem for Webster, is another key in my mind.

Horrible night for the SLIAC...Spalding, Eureka clobbered, Westminster plays a good first half, then gets thumped... The only team to win is Mac, and they still haven't figured out how to get a box score to SLIAC.org or D3hoops.com.....   call me frustrated...

ok next morning Mac info up on their site... yikes, Mac up by 19 with 9 minutes left, and hang on to win by 3.. if play by play is correct, LCC had ball to tie with 12 seconds left, but failed... Coach must have been imploding!!!

Did you watch that Westminster game?

The Blue Jays were so close, but had a couple of defensive breakdowns late in the game (the last Simpson three pointer was wide open) and had a couple of good looks from three that did not fall.  Simpson played incredibly well over those last few minutes.

As for the game tonight, St. Louis is expecting 4 inches or more of snow, so it will be interesting to see if the game is held.  You know, St. Louis.  Webster is heading to Tennessee this weekend, so a postponement may push this game in to late December.  Or, to cancellation.

I only caught glimpses (was playing bridge...) first half only... so missed Simpson's comeback... also watched minutes of Eureka-Grinnell...horrid... seems like Hank Thomas is trying to take up where Shea Feehan left off... HE CAN'T

On the fun side, I was looking for active career leaders last night (d3 stats aren't fully loaded yet) and Shea Feehan is listed as the D1 active career leader in ppg right now.  So that's cool.

Interesting, do you have a link for that?  Not finding it.

Webster vs Wash U -- great first half. Bears up 38-34.

Webster over Wash U 72-64... shot the ball extremely well, forced turnovers from Wash U... free throws critical in the last minutes, Gorlocks made'em, Wash U missed a couple of big ones.....a great win for the Gorlocks and the SLIAC....

Washington University did indeed win in rebounding, but 16 turnovers turned out to be too much to overcome when coupled with the 22% shooting effort from three point range.  Those were mostly good shots, but they were not falling tonight.

Lots of credit to Webster's second half defense. But I thought it was going to slip away when Webster committed a couple of fouls and had a turnover in the final two minutes after leading 66-60. Wash U got it to 66-64, but missed a couple of free throws in there.

This reminds me of the January 2011 win over Wash U when the Bears also had a less experienced team. The difference that season, though, was that Webster was a much more veteran team than this year -- plus had Willie Trimble.

Great win. Congratulations.

aaaahhhh Willie Trimble... still the most exciting SLIAC... maybe even D3.... player I've ever seen... unmatched spring to the hoop....

Greek Tragedy

Well, Eureka gets a chance to right the wrongs from their game vs Grinnell as they take on a Knox team that lost to Principia by 13, although it was a 3-point game with 5 minutes to play.

Grinnell went 20-40 from three in the first half and 6-23 in the second half.  That 30 point halftime lead was enough and also shows the huge variance inherent in the System.

EC should be able to shake it off tonight against a Knox team that lost to Prin and barely beat Maranatha.
