Ok Greek, Greg.. you convinced me....

So I've mentioned before, I keep a spreadsheet where I view the box score of each conference game, and award 'AllConference points' for any deserving players based on that games performance... no history, no reputation etc... how did that player show up in the boxscore... points awarded from 0-5...and I'm stingy with 5's... only a few in the the first 6 games of the season....

What a log jam!!!!

One player leads the way with 20.5 points over 6 games... but there are then 12 players who rate anywhere from 16 to 13 points... one good game could throw them right up to first team, one bad game right down to 3rd team or even out of mention... it's really fun to watch how the names jump around at the end of each game night....once again not a perfect science as it throws out intangibles (mainly defensive contributions), but I'll trust that vote to the conference at season end... what it does take into account is a certain level of consistency... 30 and 10 in one game gets you a 5, but 10 and 6 turnovers the next game gets you a 0.... that big game that might make an undeniable impression on the voters at season's end is now averaged down (fairly I might add) in my little system, and the guy who has 18 and 7 one game, and 21 and 6 the next has earned equal recognition....

GU1999

Hi everyone.  I am a new poster, but have followed the SLIAC board for quite a long time.  I will start with linking a great piece done by KSDK in St. Louis about GU and Dr. George Barber.  The piece ran last night and was almost 5 minutes long.  It was a follow up to a shorter piece which Frank Cusumano did on GU in mid-December.

I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for that link, and welcome to the boards!

Thank you Mr. Sager.  I read Hopefan's lament last week and did not want him to think he was posting into the great SLIAC board void.

Side note, any chance the new year has brought back MOP JR to NP?  It would have been fun to see him hang a 50 piece ont GU.  Not sure it would have changed the outcome, but it would have been fun.

Nope. Jordan Robinson was enrolled at NPU this fall, but he is not playing for the Vikings this season.

Great piece here from Channel 5's Frank Cusumano on Greenville. Unfortunately the video doesn't sufficiently reflect the hectic pace of the system -- especially on the defensive end.

SLIAC.org selects Marcus Montgomery as its Outstanding Player for the lengthy Christmas break period plus the week of conference games.... which agrees perfectly with me as I selected him POW for the non-conference period as well as the 2 sessions of conference games....

Um, y_jack_lok, you posted the exact same link that our rookie poster GU1999 posted earlier today. Don't step on the new guy. :D

^^^ Apologies to GU1999. Obviously, I didn't catch up on the board before posting.

So what's scheduled for tonight and tomorrow in the SLIAC

Westminster plays at Principia tonight... this game might be closer than expected... Micah Paulson vs Coby Wands, Trevon Goodman vs Romo Tabb match team strengths very well... once again, depth probably kills Prin, team defense likely wins it for Westmin...

Tomorrow
Greenville hosts Iowa Wesleyan... IWU offers nothing that makes me think they can compete in this one...I don't think being television stars will go to the Panthers heads

MacMurray hosts Spalding....Both teams lost two last week, but Mac is the team on the downward spiral.  Marcus Montgomery has done a terrific job picking up for the missing Dom Ellis (where is he?), I think Spalding wins this one close...

Eureka at Fontbonne... huge game for both teams... seemingly a must win for both, as the loser falls farther behind in the quest for a conference tourney spot... big question is will Luke DeLine play for Fontbonne, he missed last game with injury...I'd love to see this game, should be aggressive, fast paced.. got a gut that Fontbonne surprises with a win...

Webster at Blackburn... and while we're talking upsets, how about a Blackburn win here.....

Hopefan out on a limb with these.... tough calls...

Given that this game is at BC I wouldn't call it an upset, should BC win.

Certainly concur with the Montgomery selection.  Dropping 51 against GU, in and of itself, is not necessarily all that noteworthy as there are many examples of non-star players getting in the high 30s low 40s on lightly contested press break layups, but Montgomery did it is a much more interesting fashion.  He played 36 minutes and had a shooting percentage slash of .620/.545/1.000.  That is noteworthy and deserving.

That said, I am wondering when Eric Williams gets his recognition.  I may have to wait until the all-conference lists are released.
