Thank you Dave McHugh for having Dr. Barber on the show again.  A truly great individual who cares deeply for his players and institution and the fact that he is having success is icing on the cake. 

The information that coach cited about GU's basketball budget and budget $/player is very important and illuminates a league wide issue.

"Took their foot off the gas" is putting it lightly. MacMurray outscored Eureka by a score of 54-28 in the second half.

I'm surprised the starters played half the 2nd half. Looking at the boxscore, they didn't really shoot much though.

Just noticed possible great scheduling by SLIAC. 

The two leaders of the pack, Webster and Greenville, don't meet until the final game of each of the conference halves. Would be some fun if both took 8-0 conference records into that first matchup. Unlikely, but it could happen....then, if they continued winning ways, and both finished with one conference loss, quite the excitement for the conference tourney!!!  I have always been a proponent for a neutral conference tourney site and always been shot down.  This would be totally justifiable if a GC/ WU tie with 1 loss occurred.

Hopefan saw this before the rest of us, but now there we are only a few days away, let the build up for the biggest game to date in the SLIAC commence.  7:30p this Wednesday at GU.  A big mid-week game during J-term should be VERY well attended.

Ryan Scott is right -- George Barber is the best interview in D3 men's basketball. And I mean "best interview" in a good way, in that you're halfway to becoming a Greenville fan after hearing D-Mac interview him on Hoopsville.

Yes, it is. I would've loved to have heard Dave prod George into getting more into the nuts and bolts of how Greenville recruits such a large roster (with legitimate talent on it) on such a paltry budget, given that he has eleven Californians (who are from all over what is an enormous state in terms of geography), kids from practically everywhere in the South, a couple Michiganders, etc., on his roster. I know that jucos play into his recruiting strategy, but recruiting out-of-state juco kids isn't something that is necessarily a cost-saving measure. Unfortunately, Dave was running long and he had to abbreviate that interview. I think that Dave ought to lead off with George the next time that he has him on Hoopsville so that he can give him all the time he needs.

If Webster is locked into a particular Conference Tourney spot at that point, Prin may very well be facing the Webster Bench 95% of the game, maybe even the whole game...I'm not happy about this scheduling.  I feel it really labels it, under most circumstances, as meaningless...  why didn't they choose any other Monday?

I would imagine an intercollegiate competition would take precedence over interfraternity hoops... I really can't think of anything that would mandate gym use that couldn't be rescheduled... I do have one thought though, Prin doesn't play Wednesday nights, all midweek games are on Tuesday..  perhaps they objected strongly to playing back to back evenings....

And...if one or both teams are already locked in, is there a possibility that they may not even play the game?

what is significant, as I suspected, Prin is scheduled every Tuesday the rest of January, and the two weeks of February.... Webster is scheduled every Wednesday..    so if they play on a Monday, it's back to back for Prin... if they play on a Thursday, Webster has to go back to back... so they decide to push it out to that last Monday...

Now then, a number of conferences have schedules that play back to back, usually Friday-Saturday, but I guess Webster/Prin had no desire to do so...
So I answered my own original question, guess I have to temper my disappointment.

Principia doesn't have fraternities.

There are plenty of other activities and responsibilities on campus that don't involve the use of the gym. For example, class schedules may conflict with certain days and/or certain dates being used for athletic competition. Principia, with its tiny roster, might be particularly vulnerable to such academic strictures.

Of course. My suggestion that they play on a Thursday was made with the total disregard that Webster plays on Wednesdays! A complete "duh" on my part!
