Ecred... YOU BLEW IT... the power of both of us predicting an IWU win over Spalding surely would have made it happen!!!  With just me going that way, we can't be sure...😂😂😂
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Webster pulls out a win on two free throws by Aron Hoop with two seconds left. I didn't see much due to watching a different game. Road games are always tough, even if the opponent is one of hopefan's bottom three. Gorloks probably breathing a huge sigh of relief.

For Mac, what a shame. The front end of a one and one missed by Mac, 2 free throws made by Webster... a crushing loss for Mac, as y-jack says, a sigh of relief for Webster.

Posting on my phone as visiting the in-laws. Not ideal. Disappointing results for those of us looking for a tight race... no upsets.... the margin to 4th place again becomes two games... won't go into detail on box scores, Eureka loses at Westmin, Blackburn can't stay with Greenville, Spalding flies by Iowa Wesleyan, and Clark Davidson does it again, but not quite enough to get a win vs Fontbonne.

We'll have to hope things go better on Tuesday/Wednesday.

Hopefan's Player of the Week... Nigel Wilcox, Webster.... 2 wins, 36 points, 67% from the field, 26 rebounds 6 blocks...
    Johari Dix a close 2nd... just didn't shoot as well...54%... 2 wins, 1 loss

hopefan standings

Webster  +3  won at Fontbonne, won at Spalding, won at Greenville
Greenville  1   won at Fontbonne, lost at home to Webster, won at Blackburn
Eureka   0  lost at home to Westminster, won at Blackburn
Westminster  -1 won at Eureka, lost to Iowa Wesleyan, lost at home to Blackburn
Spalding   -1  lost at home to Webster
Fontbonne  -2 lost at home to Webster, lost at home to Greenville
Blackburn   -3  lost to MacMurray, lost at home to Eureka, lost to Principia, won at Westminster, lost at home to Greenville

so why is Eureka ahead of Westmin and Spalding...Because they have no more road games left vs contenders!!! if they can beat Webster, Blackburn, Greenville, and Fontbonne, all AT EUREKA, plus the bottom 3, they will finish 12-6, and surely IN....REMEMBER, hopefan standings assume yoe will WIN on your homecourt...

Incidentally... with Hopefan's All conference spreadsheet, where players are rewarded 0 to 5 points for their performance level in each game, what was a runaway for the top spot is no longer a runaway... in fact, by the narrowest of margins, we have a new leader!!!  The top two spots are a good jump ahead of the 3rd spot, and spots 3-10 are incredibly close.. another gap down to spot 11

with a vote of 5 being as good as you can get, and not easily rewarded... here are the 5's thus far

Eric Williams Greenville   (1)    G-F
Clark Davidson Principia  (3)       F
Trevaughn Goodman Principia (1)    G-F
Marcus Montgomery Spalding (1)     G
Rod Etienne  Webster (1)    F
Nigel Wilcox  Webster (1)    F
Romo Tabb  Westminster  (1)     G-F
Stu Hollandsworth  Westminster  (1)     F

uh oh   looks like there's a bit of bias against pure guards here..  because of turnovers, or perhaps shooting %, within a single game.....

if any of our regular readers want to single out a player, a particular game, why no 5?, I'll be happy to discuss.....remember, a 5 is a pretty near perfect game...

Is Williams starting to cool down a bit? Dix finally showing what he did last year. He's been hit and miss most of the season but seems to be on a little roll now.

Crazy to think Clark Davidson, of all players, would have three "5"s for you. Not sure when his "5"s were. He had 35 pts and 11 rebs v Greenville, but 6 TOs and then 18 and 13 with 6 assists to offset 5 TOs.

Blackburn at Eureka postponed to Thursday due to cold temps.

I scoffed at this until I looked at forecast... -24 is a tad nippy!!!!!  Totally agree with postponement... hope kids get the day off from classes too!!!

I assume they do. Kids in my area we're off yesterday because of 15 inches of snow and are off Wednesday and Thursday because of the cold and wind chills.

Just a few exceptional showings which I suspect did not make the 5* list:

Montgomery, Spaulding
v. Prin 19 points in 19 minutes while going 6-6 from the floor, 3-3 from 3 and 4-4 from the line.  He did very little else, but it is a pretty cool game.
34 pt., 2 reb, 2 steal game on 18 shots is also a very efficient

Josh Johnson, Webster
v. Mac - 22pts (on 9 shots), 5reb, 5 assists... super efficient
v. Fontbonne - 27pts (on 13 shots), 5rb, 4 assists (4 turnovers?)

Kobe Wands, Westmin
v. Fontbonne - 33 pts (14 shots), 2 reb, 4 assists

Bateman, GU
26 pts (9-12 from the floor & 8 - 10 from 3), 3 reb.  No FTs or any other stats.  Just extremely pure shooting from the future all-time conference 3pt makes record holder.  And it shouldn't be close.

Dix, GU
Jarryd Fernandez, IWU - 35pts (17 for 21), 18 reb, 3 assists in 24 minutes.  He did turn it over 6 times, but that was A LOT less then his 3 buddies that turned it over 10+ each.

Also fun to note that the at least 3 of the 4 (and maybe 4 of 4)  Westmin and Webster 5* games likely came in the two wins against GU.  Lots of Rebs and layups against GU.

I have a hard time thinking that Williams at GU wouldn't have the most combined 4* and 5* games. EW's still sitting at 23.3 pts., 6.3 rebs., and 3.2 steals per game. Those numbers over 40 mins are astronomical given he only plays 19 minutes a game.

GU1999

While looking up the all time 3pt made record for my last post (again Bateman's on pace to obliterate this record), I decided to look around a little in the conf record book.

I noticed the Jahori Dix after his first 3 seasons is listed on both the assists and steals leader boards.

He currently is at 442 career assists and in second place, but just 7 shy of the all-time leader Greg Martin from Westmin ('90-'93).  This record should fall this week.

Johari is also rapidly ascending the career steals list, but will likely not catch the great Henry Shannon from Maryville in the late 90's early 00's.  Johari should catch Matt Newton for 2nd as he only needs 19 more on the season and this would be well within his average.
