on the other hand Webster looks solid in dismantling Spalding... late start due to OT in women's game... Spalding may be pulling into Louisville pushing 3:30 AM... hope no early morning classes...

Webster was behind 30-25 late in the first half before scoring the next seven points to lead 32-30 at halftime. Spalding tied it four minutes into the second half and kept it close until about six minutes left. Webster played zone late in the first half and the entire second half. At first it looked like Spalding had it figured out, but Webster ramped it up a bit into the second half, got some steals and extended the lead late in the game.

Biggest game of the year tonight for Blackburn and Eureka.... winner stays just one game behind Spalding for fourth place in conference, loser falls two games behind Spalding, one game behind the winner... I won't venture to pick a winner, as both teams have been so inconsistent this year... loser is in tough shape to climb back to fourth...Fontbonne already in that unenviable position, and is really struggling....

Looking 3 weeks ahead, if Webster and Greenville both win out up to the final Saturday, then Greenville wins the 2nd game with Webster, they'll finish tied for first... as things are right now, Webster would win the tiebreaker, as they would have beaten 3rd place Westminster twice, while Greenville would have split with Westmin...  in order for Greenville to win that tiebreaker, Blackburn, who beat Webster, would have to vault over Westminster in the standings... don't think that will happen... of course, many more games to play, won't be a surprise if Webster or Greenville lose again....

I had to go to the grocery store so I dropped by for the second half.

I really like this Webster team.

There are those days in which you realize that you cannot pass up the opportunity to park 50 feet from the gym, pick up a popcorn and Sierra Mist for $2.00 and have the front row all to yourself.

So, how did the wife feel about that? That's a long "quick" trip to the grocery store! I've done the " I just need milk and came back with $50 in groceries" but not the "I'm going to the grocery real quick and ended up at a basketball game"!!!

nice comeback from Eureka, cuts the lead to four, but BC pulls away in last minute, 83-74.....as we said, this keeps Blackburn in the tourney chase, puts Eureka in a very bad spot....
No slow-down at Greenville... GC over Mac, 167-145... Logan Doherty goes for 48 for Mac... could that be a SLIAC frosh scoring record?  very likely....

What's happening on Saturday....

Biggest Game of the day would seem to be Westminster at Spalding....Spalding needs a win badly to stay ahead of Blackburn for fourth place in the Conference race.... Westmin stays a solid 3rd with a win on the road, and still in striking distance of Greenville and Webster..still, a long trip for the Bluejays, I see Spalding getting the win..  of course, hopefan loves a crunch of the standing and will be cheering hard for Coach Mitchell's team..

Webster at Eureka... hopefan standings had Eureka in great position... they just had to win at home... well, they couldn't beat Blackburn, played very undisciplined hoops, doubt they'll be able to beat Webster.... Big game for both...

Fontbonne at Greenville... the Griffs appear to be short on manpower for whatever reason.... none of you readers let us know what is going on... this one could be a laugher...

Iowa Wesleyan at Blackburn.... Huge for Blackburn as they could find themselves tied for fourth at the end of the day.... but they've let down their guard before... still, they seem on the upswing with that win at Eureka....

Prin at Mac.... I feel bad for both of these teams... good kids, work hard to compete, just not enough there this year.... someone is going to get a win!!!

hopefan standings

Webster  +3  won at Fontbonne, won at Spalding, won at Greenville
Greenville  +1   won at Fontbonne, lost at home to Webster, won at Blackburn
Westminster  0 won at Eureka, lost to Iowa Wesleyan, lost at home to Blackburn, won at Fontbonne
Spalding   -1  lost at home to Webster
Eureka   -1  lost at home to Westminster, won at Blackburn, lost at home to Blackburn
Blackburn   -2  lost to MacMurray, lost at home to Eureka, lost to Principia, won at Westminster, lost at home to Greenville, won at Eureka
Fontbonne  -3 lost at home to Webster, lost at home to Greenville, lost at home to Westminster

Well, Fontbonne did hold Greenville to a 2nd season low of 111. Dubuque held them to 102. They only lost by 12 and hled a halftime lead. Give them a little more credit.

Wonders of the SLIAC room...

Last year, these pages averaged just under 1000 views per day... absolutely incredible numbers for a low level conference..

This year it has fallen to around 650 views per day..

Possible reasons?

Well, one has to be the Shea Feehan effect... Shea has moved on from Eureka, and with that the Red Devils have performed at a disappointing level... i'm sure Eureka followers as well as D3 Fantasy fanatics have decreased views...

The race for conference... the race has pretty much centered on 4 teams only... with Spalding being one... I'm not sure anyone from Spalding even knows this site exists... don't think I've ever seen a Spalding poster, even in the days of Dewan McAfee....and with Fontbonne and Eureka dropping out and Mac and Prin being "off" this year, it may have an impact...

hopefan... are his comments becoming stale?  should he attempt to be more controversial...

ON THE OTHER HAND
It still boggles my mind that we get this amount of views per day, with so little feedback.... Thank you Yjack and Wooopiff for picking up on comments when I'm unable to post quickly... and thank you ECred for inputting on Eureka, especially in a tough year, and thank you GU1999 for joining in recently with some great insight.... and of course it's always fun to see what Fantasy guru Greek Tragedy or Encyclopedia of Everything Greg Sager (I say that with total respect and admiration) have to add... but what of all the other readers... would be so much fun to get positive or negative reaction to my remarks...I GOTTA BE WRONG SOMETIMES.... to hear from the insiders as to why this guy didn't play or that team performed poorly... instead it's a one man show for the most part, interpretting box scores and the occasional game I see on the internet, and it can't last forever... Redhead, where have you disappeared to???

They're 3-1 in their last 4? I'm not saying they are going to win, but you don't give them much hope...

As for my responses, I've completely wiped my hands free of any SLIAC players on my fantasy teams, except for the occasional guy who plays against Greenville. In fact, today, I'm all-in on SLIAC guys with McCann and DeLine for Fontbonne and Williams and Dix for Greenville all playing in he One and Done League. I once had Bennington and Thomas and also Paulson and Goodman. I traded Bennington and Paulson for Wheaton's Francis and dumped Goodman and Thomas. Everyone else is too hit and miss for my liking.

It's kind of comforting to see this post, because this has become hopefan's yearly tradition. It's almost like it's his annual SLIAC commentary pledge drive. ;)

(Thanks for the compliment, BTW.)

Yeah, the WIAC board's participation has really dried up this year. I don't understand why, either, because the WIAC football board appears to be as vigorous as ever. It certainly can't be for lack of good teams to talk about, since WIAC men's basketball is as strong this season as it ever was.
