Prin at Webster tonight was a great game -- 98-92 Webster. Webster had a 16 point lead in the first half, Prin closed the gap to two points before Webster pushed it back to 12 points at halftime.Webster need every one of those points. Prin took several leads (largest was 3 points) in the second half. Fatigue finally took its toll. Prin players looked really gassed in the last five minutes but that didn't stop them from playing hard. A really great game from  Ethan Hughes for Webster -- 9 of 14 from the field, five assists and six rebounds in 37 minutes. Josh Johnson with 31 points making 5 of 6 three pointers for Webster. Tankins with his usual, solid, all-around game for the Gorloks -- 16 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists (and he only made hopefan's second team 😁).

Tankins was riding along on the 1st team when he missed a game 2 or 3 weeks  ago due I assume to illness... anyway, after that game, he had 3 subpar games which really hurt his quality point average... he got a maximum 5 vs Greenville and a 4.5 vs Prin in his last two games, but fell just short of 1st team.

a bit disconcerting prior to the Conference Tourney:

Nigel Wilcox, the Conference MVP (per hopefan), not dressed to play last night for Webster vs Prin, walking with a slight limp...

Eureka loses to NCCAA Emmaus, Jordan Dehm doesn't play, Dakota Bennington plays 5 minutes..

Let's hope these were just precautionary, or coaching decisions to give more time to seniors or guys off the bench
We certainly hope to see everyone's best on Friday night!!!

From the Webster write up on last night's game: "Webster needed a strong performance from Hughes as they played Monday's game without sophomore forward Nigel Wilcox (Alpharetta, Ga./Centennial), who missed the game after suffering an ankle injury near the end of Saturday's Greenville game."

That is tough news for Webster.  It is cool to see Hughes step up and score 13 more than his career Webster best.

Good news for out of town SLIAC fans...

The conference contracts out the internet video showing of the conference tourney..

That means announcers, a running score line and clock at the bottom of the screen, and hopefully a sharper image than we are used to from the Gorlock Gymnasium....

Anxious to watch from Sunny Florida, and best of luck to all 4 teams... hoping for 3 games featuring games that are decided on the last possession!!!
AND... sorry to put the pressure on GC and EC... a 300 point game!!!!!!!

I am very pleased to learn that we will have competent video for the tourney.  Trying to watch the regular season championship game was not a pleasant experience and that was before factoring in the disappointing video quality.

Regarding that game (deep sigh), it is still hard for me to get over the fact that GU had a negative turnover margin for the game.  Turnover margin is, in my opinion, the secret sauce for this version of the Panthers.  They sit at +15.8 for the season in this area (which leads the nation by 3+) Even factoring in the higher possession games, this is a really staggering number.  One additional key is that they are really good at forcing live ball turnovers.  Currently GU averages 21 steals a game (live ball), and for comparison, the second place team for total turnovers forced is 25.74/g (Grinell).  GU is forcing more live ball turnovers than all but 7 other teams in the country are forcing total turnovers.  Of course, liveball is far better as it creates a scramble on the defensive recovery side and shot percentages and the cumulative weight of game pace flip in GUs favor.  Eureka was pretty good in this area on the 11th when they beat GU (only a -8 margin).  If they can maintain this level, I think it will be hard for GU to win.

One thing that does help GU is rest.  As a result of weather cancellations they were forced to play 4 games in the last 8 days of the conference regular season.  I can only imagine that there was some adverse affect as a result.  With a week off, they should have full tanks.

I was honestly willing to pass up my Final Four weekend for the SLIAC weekend, in addition to Wash U and Chicago, but scheduling just didn't work out.

Webster is an arts-focused liberal arts institution with programs in digital media, journalism, sound design, sports communication, film, television and video production.  I think they are missing an opportunity to provide for hands-on experience by not working closely with athletics, but...

Here, here WU!

A learning laboratory would be a common sense approach which many SLIAC schools have adopted.

Next step up in the pecking order would be the CCIW where schools like NPU have Mr. Sager, who does things like follow the league and region religiously, know the history regarding same and even concerns himself with the small things like pronunciation guides.  :)

I'm not sure that most college administrators fully realize the impact, or the potential impact, that webstreaming their athletics events has. It's another portal to the outside world, another venue to make people aware of your school. And people definitely notice (and make judgments based upon) the quality of the production, which includes everything from picture quality to camera angles to technical reliability to replay capacity to the professionalism of the broadcasters. That's why, although North Park's basic game production isn't anything out of the ordinary, NPU shells out money to bring in an outside production company for events such as Homecoming games and postseason tournament soccer matches in which viewership is guaranteed to be higher and the school's exposure to outsiders raised. That brings in multiple camera angles, replays, improved picture and sound, etc.

The other aspect is internal. People pay a lot of money to send their kids to your college, and if they're student-athletes, chances are that their parents and/or relatives will watch at least some of their games through your webstream. You want to get things right for them. You also want to get things right for your alumni constituency that watches online and wants to see that you're keeping up with the Joneses. Granted, SLIAC budgets are on the small end of D3, and that likely extends to such matters as video production, but when the video of your league's most important basketball game is webcast from your gym and the picture looks like somebody's jiggling a Picasso in front of the camera, people come away with a bad impression of your school -- whether that's fair or unfair.

Webstreaming your games gives the world a direct window into your school. Why would you not want to take advantage of that?

I agree fully with the two previous posts.

I may be wrong, but I have to think if you are Coach Bunch, who intentionally recruits markets outside the region and has guys from Georgia, Florida and Texas on the roster, as you talk to recruits and work to establish relationships with coaches, you want to be able to refer folks to the live stream.
