Basketball games are always better in March or whatever...

That Webster-Blackburn game...wow.

y_jack_lok

^^^ It was a great game. Would not have been so close if Webster could have made free throws. Both teams played terrific defense. BC appeared to have a plan to stop Wilcox and Ettiene from scoring inside and executed it well. Also came out in the second half looking to get the ball to Wyatt down low. It worked pretty well in that the got Wilcox in foul trouble -- he had zero fouls in the first half, but got three in the first three minutes of the second half. But Josh Johnson was too good tonight. Usually he gets a lot of points at the free throw line, but BC did not take any chances on fouling him, so all he did was make 11 of 17 shots including 5 of 10 three pointers. Amazing!

Far more crowd support than I expected... hope it keeps up today... both games, I could not get away from the TV screen... as good as it gets....

Just imagine what things would be like if Eureka had grad programs.

I'm so slow.. took me a night's sleep to figure out what you were talking about... then it hit me and it is the laugh of the day...+1... ;D ;D ;D

I was thinking the same thing, Ryan. How ironic it would be for Eureka to make the NCAAs without Feehan.

The atmosphere for the second game was incredible.  Unfortunately, I missed the first game and I'll miss the game tonight, but I do hope the people show up.

As for Shea Feehan, it is an interesting hypothetical...

He has averaged 24 minutes per game, 10 points per game and has started in 22 games this season.  He has played at Illinois, Xavier and Loyola and will play in a week or so in St. Louis for Arch Madness.  That is a good way to end a Division III career.

OK  hopefan can't keep quiet

The selection of Hayes  and Johnson to 1st team all conference, over Dix and Williams, or even over Tankins or Tabb, makes absolutely no sense to me..

Its obvious my cumulative Quality points, whether by total, or by Quality points per game, did not lead to that... not even close..

I looked at it another way..
if I arbitrarily set 3 or better quality points in a game as a very good to outstanding game.. how many of these did the individuals have?
Dix  11
Williams  10
Tankins  8
Tabb 8
Hayes  7    but Hayes never had a 4.5, or a 5 score...no super games
Johnson 6

How many games UNDER 2 did each have?  signifying only a fair, to lousy, game
Dix    3
Williams   3
Tankins   5
Tabb    6
Hayes    6
Johnson     8

in addition, let's compare Paulson and Wilcox for MVP
Wilcox  Very good to great games  12
Paulson  Very good to great games  8

Wilcox less than good games  3
Paulson less than good games  4

It may sound harsh, but Paulson basically won MVP over Wilcox because he shot.. a lot!!!  Yes Paulson averaged 26 and wilcox 15 ppg..BUT, their points per field goal attempted number was virtually identical!!!!!
And, while it was Paulson's job to control the ball, his Assists to turnover ratio was a poor 0.9.. in other words more turnovers than assists (and he had two scorers in Goodman and Davidson to get the ball to)
Wilcox's job was to rebound, and he did... 11.4 per game, as well as contributing 2.7 blocks per game...

NO CONTEST

Cheers to you Hope.  Thank you for sharing.

I'm hoping for a Webster win as I think they are the team that will have a punchers chance in the Tournament.  Their win v. WUSTL is the leagues best of the season.

and on an amusing side note....

Emmaus, a small Christian school, beat Eureka last Monday... now granted, Eureka didn't use Bennington and Dehm, but Weigand, Juergens, and Dehm played, as well as regulars off the bench Barth, Hosea, White, Hardaway, Yonker, Henderson...

THEN Emmaus loses to Maranatha Baptist last night by 30...

We better keep those powerhouse Christian schools out of the SLIAC!!!!!

Don't worry, this is strictly comedy relief!!!!

And on another interesting sidelight...  both Greenville and Grinnell lose last night.. to teams seeded below them..

Is it back to the drawing board for the system?    Seems like some may have figured out ways to beat it....

Eureka had beaten Greenville already this year, so it wasn't a huge surprise. I don't think Grinnell was very good this year anyway. They had some really low scoring outputs this season.

I'm not completely opposed to Paulson getting it...even over Wilcox. Wilcox was the 3rd leading scorer...on his team. I don't know if that would happen in any conference. I don't necessarily think the leading scorer on the team is always the best player, but give Paulson some credit. He handled the ball probably more than anyone and to only have a 0.9 a/to ratio is probably not all that bad.

Heck, I'm not even saying Paulson should've won it. But, if you're comparing Paulson to Wilcox, I'm probably giving it to Paulson. In fact, even before looking at your ratings, I may have given it to Dix. He scored a lot, but also averaged almost 4 rebs a game, tons of assists and steals, and solid a/to ratio.

Romo Tabb did not make the first team?

That does not make sense.

Tabb averaged 18 points (50% from the field) and 8 rebounds per game in addition to great defense.

Tankins offers 14 points and 8 rebounds per game but his ability to break down the defense and his leadership, at least in the five games I have watched...certainly a candidate for the first team.

OK, Webster, you do not need to listen to be about the broadcasting, but please get a few of these before next season.

How many times did a Gorlok slip and lose their balance in those final minutes?  I think it was four times.

Congratulations to Eureka College and good luck next week.
