Pat and Gordon are doing the hard work of manually entering teams that aren't Presto schools.  So if things pop up over night, it's probably due to their rigorous "offseason conditioning."

Maybe they saw my early post and ran with it!!! ;) ;) ;)
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Pat Coleman

Westminster is a Presto school, so neither of us would have touched that.

ouch... this hurts me, as a true SLIAC fan, really badly.... from various sources, at least 6 SLIAC schools have key players NOT returning.. just a darned shame...and it certainly would impact my prior ratings of returning players on each team....

OK, so the latest Webster press release says that Coach Bunch is returning four starters.  He should be returning five.  The new rosters should be up in the next month or so.

Hopefan's SLIAC MVP... an extremely unfortunate situation that should never have happened....WUPIFF, we may have some interesting conversation about this as I decide what and when to put out some info on this, as your knowledge of college administration will be invaluable....

I so hate to hear that...I hope that means you are coming back to St. Louis for a few games though.

On the brighter side of SLIAC hoops news, Eureka's schedule has been posted in the last couple days... They are the number 8 SLIAC team to post...

That leaves MacMurray and Blackburn as the only schools not yet having their schedule posted... note, Blackburn has their schedule posted, but it is incomplete missing 4 games with Mac and Webster...

OK...so let's get to the direct facts... Nigel Wilcox will not be returning to Webster this year... On my D3hoops.com SLIAC board All Conference selections last year, I voted Nigel Wilcox as the MVP of the conference...the coaches saw different, with justification, and selected Prin's Micah Paulson as their POY...
Why did I go with Wilcox?.. he was there every game, the man in the post position, playing a major role in taking Webster to a first place Conference finish, with a record of 15-3.. in conference he averaged 15.3ppg, 11.4 rpg, 2.7 blocks per game..he was unselfish, his Assist to Turnover ratio was just over 1.0... He went to class, had passing grades, never was in trouble, was a popular student athlete around campus and in the athletic environment...

BUT, the Wilcox family could not make the final payment on last year's bill... a minimal amount due.. less than 5% of the total cost of the year.. a SMALL amount... but the family didn't have it, period... there was likely already a large amount of loan taken out... worse yet, Webster will not release Nigel's transcript due to a SMALL, VERY SMALL, debt from last year, therefore, he has no academic options for this year... he can't transfer to any legit 4 year school without providing a transcript.

I'm sick about this, and I'm not even a Webster-only fan.... I'm a SLIAC fan first, a D3 fan in total next...But when I hear a story like this, just like Bluffton hoaxing us with Ohio Midwestern, just like the SLIAC technical foul controversy, and the ST. Thomas too good for the MIAC story, it just pains me...

WAS THERE NO WAY FOR WEBSTER TO HANDLE THIS IN A PROACTIVE WAY? Assuming Webster is in the business of providing an education for students, couldn't the school have found some legal loophole to allow Wilcox to return... and by the way, no mistake about it, this is what Wilcox wanted... he had not shopped himself to other schools as several Webster players had done in prior years.. Wilcox 100% wanted to come back....

So I put this question out (and WUPIFF, this is where your knowledge of college operations may come in handy)...how would other schools handle this... an outstanding credit to his school, pleads to come back, but is just short financially.. do other schools review situations like this and figure out a solution... remember, I'm not talking $10k, not $5k , not even $2k... are they going to slam the door in the kid's face, and even prevent him from continuing his education... what would Wash U, Greenville, Illinois Wez, Hope.. heck, any D3 school in this situation do?

PLEASE don't give me a school is not in business to lose money answer, D3 doesn't have scholarships, etc answer... I'm very certain that a kid who has extenuating situations can be helped with some kind of solution... heck, work-study, roll it over to this year, forgive it... ANYTHING

^^^ That is unfortunate, not only from a basketball standpoint, but from the way it affects Nigel's prospects for continuing his education.

In my experience, most schools will do whatever it takes to keep a student if they believe that the student will eventually pay.

And, I would say even more so when they have an advocate and I have to assume that Coach Bunch was on the phone with whomever would answer.

Institutions want the tuition revenue and the retention rate.

They really have every reason to keep him.

Greek Tragedy

Blackburn has their schedule up...sort of.

All seven non-conference games are listed with Blackburn taking on UT-Dallas as well as ETBU opposite Stevens Point. Not sure why all their conference games aren't posted.

I hope some rich Webster alum who is a big contributor and an athletic fan reads  WUPIFF's reaction and my posts and makes some calls to the Webster higher ups...
