^^^ Not sure what I said about the Webster offense that you disagree with. I made note of bad shooting without mentioning names and referenced what appeared to me to be "offensives wrinkles" that I hadn't seen before and plan to keep an eye on -- to confirm or refute my one time observation. I agree that Johnson taking 27 shots is too much. The ball was actually being distributed quite well. Lots of great passing, some guys passing up shot opportunities I thought they should have taken. Too bad the live stream wasn't working so you could have actually seen the game.
kind of in response both to Yjack and GU...
Yjack   Didn't mean that I don't agree with anything you wrote, I meant I don't agree with the way the offense was run that would lead to Johnson taking that many shots... another way to say it is I feel Johnson taking 27 shots is disagreeable,,, ;D ;D ;D

I think the talent that webster has would lead to a more even distribution of shots... meaning if Johnson is missing 17 shots as he did last night, perhaps better shots were available for others with another pass.. it's exactly the way I felt about the Prin situation which I did see and saw a number of forced drives end up in misses or blocked shots when a dish to Davidson, or getting the ball to the middle might have produced better results.....  one person doing a lot with the ball can over time lead to others just standing around watching.... certainly GU if you watched Greenvilles loss, you saw a plethora of horrendous disy doo layup attempts by the panthers, out of control... I'd rather see dish out to the perimeter...

^^^ Fair enough. Those 27 shots do seem a bit excessive, especially given the number of misses. But, truthfully, Webster doesn't have anyone who is a sufficiently better shooter than Johnson. And given the height disadvantage last night, getting shots inside was not going to happen much. Even Ethan Hughes was taking outside shots. Most of Webster's "in the paint" shots/hoops were from offensive rebounds. There were a couple of times that a Gorlok got free inside and scored -- but only a couple and those were in the first half, so MoBap made adjustments to take that away in the second half.

Looking at other scores and the College of Pharmacy live stats have the Pharmacists with the win, 71-65.  I hope they had heartburn medicine on hand for the Fontbonne fans...

Sun   Maryville (Tenn.)  TH   USAC   vs   Webster   TA   SLIAC

After the first 6 days of the season, there are many reasons to think this could be a blood bath for our SLIAC teams...  before that first week, I might have given us a shot at pushing .500 for these games....

Now that we've seen what all the missing bodies leaves us with, hopefan will set the over/under at 5 SLIAC wins... Prognosticators, post me your thoughts...

not looking great. my opinion:

westmin has a shot at bv
spalding over defiance
mac over knox
ec good shot at monmouth
greenville system could pull upset at carthage
ec over knox

that's six if things fall right by my count.  any more would be a + for sliac by my analysis.

WUPHF

I feel so sad for Fontbonne.

What could have been indeed.

I still think Webster recovers and moves on from the 0-2 start and hopefully that starts this weekend.

difficult to say. piedmont is a question mark, bad last year, so may be winnable.

maryville tn was 22-7, not looking good on paper as a road game for web.

WUPHF

Agreed. 1-1 and a good showing against Maryville would be a moral victory and something to build on.

Piedmont was 5-20 last season. They have to replace their two leading scorers from last season. They were picked 5th out of seven in the USA South west division, one point ahead of the #6 team. It appears Webster has a shot at a win in this game.

Maryville, 22-7 last season as ecred notes. Their long time head coach retired, replaced by an assistant for eight seasons. The were in a three-way tie for second in the USA South west division pre-season poll. Not expecting a Webster win in this one, but anything can happen.

Note this is a big game for Coach Bunch... he came to Webster from Maryville... I'm sure the players know it.....

Here in Catholic St. Louis, it is definitely Mary-ville.
