Hopefan is 0 for 2 with PLayer of the Week... SLIAC.org goes with Trevaughn Goodman... another close call...

how about giving the potw to a player with better numbers who helped his team win a game?  just a thought.

in other news, exciting slate tomorrow night in the big E.  two system teams come to town, st. mary of the woods take on the ec women, followed by the *original* system pioneers...well, the pioneers of grinnell.  grinnell comes in 0-2 against coe and wartburg, only managed 74 pts in the wc game.

i really think this ec squad will control this one.  they have all the pieces, outstanding and quick ballhandlers in hosea and bennington, fast paced attack-style offense, bigs who can finish at the rim.  looking for big numbers out of jaedon banks and bennington dunking on the back end of the grinnell trapping press.  should be a fun night of hoops.

Greek Tragedy

Grinnell seems to be a shell of past system teams. Even when they are bad, they usually score more than 80 points! It's only two games, but Coe and Wartburg aren't powerhouse teams.

Arseneault the Younger is running a different version of The System.  They're not using all the same benchmarks and things that characterized his father's tenure.  They're focusing more on defense and getting smart shot - still a fast style of play, but adapted.  They're definitely down in scoring this season - maybe that's something to look into if it continues.

Very interesting league choice given Goodman on pace for 12.5 T's and "sportsmanship" is a league point of emphasis this year.

Maybe you can take your concerns on the new sportsmanship rules to Twitter.  Or maybe a monthly update.

Huge win for Carthage tonight.  Down goes #2 University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh by 7 at Tarble in Kenosha.  Clearly no "system game" hangover despite the sum of both scoring totals being less that that of the losing team in Saturday night.

Wish I had seen posts earlier.. wife and I were out wining and dining for our 47th anniversary..

only the Principia game last night was an actual game... the other 3 were exhibition games..

But hey... congrats to Prin on their first win of the season, 87-81 over Lincoln Christian... Trevaughn Goodman with a huge game.. 34 pts, (14-20 from field),  10 rebounds, 5 assists
Clark Davidson also with double double, 14 points, 11 rebounds... much more involved in the offense
and Brennan Paulson has returned for last couple of games, shooting well..4-6 from 3's, 14 points last night...

Also note LCC Guard Garret Aeilts.... 23 Field goal attempts, ALL OF THEM 3 POINTERS!!!..... Made 11 for 33 points..
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Coach's son has taken 60 shots in four games, 49 from 3 on which he is shooting it at a 34.6%.  That is just below the boarder line for high volume 3-point shooting in my world, but not knowing their other talent and the fact that his an overall 35% shooter in general it may make sense.  Given the free reign he has to let it fly there could be some small sample size things going on as well.

Spaulding v. Franklin: Franklin -7.5
Spaulding goes on the road and will pick up their fourth loss of the year.  Spaulding will come inot the game hungry and will be playing a Franklin team that could only narrowly beat Principia over the weekend, but that will not matter as Franklin, the Preseason #4 team in the HCAC will roll.   Year-to-date Spaulding is shooting 41% overall and not quite 29% from 3,  while allowing their opponents to shoot 53.2% overall and 48% from 3.   Franklin F Matt Krause will be more than Spaulding can handle.  He is averaging 20p/g and 10r/g and has a very balance inside outside game shooting 52% overall and over 48% from 3 (on 8+ 3pt. attempts p/g).   Overall, Franklin, doesn't shoot it great but they should be more than Spaulding can handle.

Eureka v. Grinnell: Eureka -9.5
Eureka will roll Grinnell.  Eureka's ability to handle the pace of system teams (even Grinnell's System-lite team) will be on full display tonight at home.  Grinnell has been STRUGGLING to start the year and that will only continue.  Grinnell may be as bad as they have been in a 15 years as they adjust to the new system goals being implemented by D. Arseneault Jr.  That said, they have played two pretty good teams to date, but lost by 20+ in each to both Wartburg and Coe, so a correction is always possible.  Regardless, the athletic play of Eureka in their building and the "it" factor of my preseason MOP candidate Bennington is the key to Eureka picking up its SLIAC leading 3rd win of the young season.

WUPHF

Is it System-lite relative to Grinnell or relative to Greenville? Honest question...
