Iowa Wesleyan v. Lincoln Christian: IWU -9.5

IWU gets right after its loss to Spaulding.

Maryville v. Prin: Maryville -35

The school that gave us the greatest SLIAC player of them all demolishes Prin tonight.  Of course that players initials are HS, and he was one Baaaaaad dude.  He was a two-time SLIAC Player of the Year, a three-time First-team All-SLIAC selection and led the SLIAC in scoring all four years. HS was named the SLIAC Newcomer of the Year and was inducted to the SLIAC Hall of Fame in 2007. He was a three-time All-American.

Coe v. Mac:  Mac -5

I'm feeling a bit nuttey after Saturday.  I think this is Mac's game.

Principia vs Maryville shows cancelled (not postponed)    assuming due to weather, though I see zero reason for Prin to push to get this game played...

Well... at least it allowed me to extol the greatness on Mr. Henry Shannon.

Mac with a big comeback to go ahead with 12 seconds, only to lose by one on a last second tip in with one second left...

I had written a few lines showing the reported Iowa Wesleyan scores were all messed up... but they are right now.....IWU beats LCC 88-67

Greenville hosts Dominican tonight.... Great timing for Greenville to have a nonconference game... figuring out the shift changes with the addition of Bateman and Williams...allowing them time on the floor to shake off the rust...

Some tough decisions for Coach Barber...15 players saw equal playing time against Fontbonne... if they go two shifts full time and fewer minutes for the third, who plays on the 3rd?   Virtually each of the 15 have made positive contributions on the floor at  some point this season , or in the case of Bateman and Williams, last season...    But I will say, getting only 13=15 minutes for your 10 most talented players is probably not the best strategy...

It obviously didn't work the last time out.

No reason for Maryville to push to get it played, either. They are scheduled to play at SLU tonight. And what a weird schedule for Maryville -- weak D3 Prin one night, followwd by decent D1 SLU the next. But I digress. This has virtually nothing to do with the SLIAC.

Greek Tragedy

UW-Stout did that at the beginning of the season too, twice. They played a D3 opponent at home one night and then traveled and played D1 UW-Green Bay the following day. Then they traveled to Michigan and played a D3 opponent one night and then Saginaw Valley State the following day. Both non D3 games were exhibition games.

A number of outstanding performances in conference games this past Saturday.. and apologies to those deserving guys who didn't get selected..

Hopefan's SLIAC Player of the week goes to Mac's Logan Dorethy... Mac took a favored Webster team to OT before losing close, with Doherty 34 points and 12 rebounds... Add to that going 8 for 11, 17 points against Top 10 Augustana, despite losing playing time due to foul trouble..... it was a heck of a week...

Frosh of the Week goes to Wynne Brown of Webster...starting for the first time (I think), Brown goes 8 for 11 from the field including 5 of 8 from 3's, 6 for 6 from the line to lead the Gorlocks to that OT win over Mac...

I have to split the transfer of the week.... Jalen Wadlington from Fontbonne, Ethan Thompson from Westminster.... both had super performances in leading their teams to totally unexpected wins over the league leaders...  Wadlington goes an unheard of 16/17 from the field, 5 for 5 from the line , 5 assists, 37 points in the Griff win over Greenville.  Thompson goes 12 for 18 including 10 for 14 from 3's, 5 rebounds, 35 points in the Jay's win over Eureka... both clearly deserving of recognition...

UH oh... it just came to my attention that Jalen Wadlington played for Fontbonne last year... he is a transfer from Meramac, but he is not a newcomer... so he has to be rescinded from the newcomer-transfer group

A big part of my problem is no longer being able to actually be at games... watching on the internet is great fun, but unfortunately it's very difficult to watch and figure out who is who, especially when I tend to jump from one game to another, or watch multiple games at once, via connection from computer to TV, splitting the screen, and even bringing a phone into play.....I really get very little insight on individuals...it's more like - wow great pass, then on to a new play or game, not wanting to look up who number xx was that had that great move... and it will get worse each year as players I am familiar with graduate..which is mostly going to happen at the end of this season....

I'll say I am impressed that you continue to follow the league from afar.

I have been waiting for the day in which you announce that you are moving on to the Florida Division II school forums.

Dunno about hopefan, but I always refer to D2 as the Neither Fish Nor Fowl Division.

I think that both D1 and D3 have their virtues, but none of them seem to translate to D2. Having said that, I'm glad that D2 is there to soak up a lot of those mid-sized schools that might otherwise be bullies at the D3 level.

I watch Eckerd and think what a shame they are not a D3 school... solid academics, a facility that would be less than middle of the pack in D3, minimal attendance after losing 2 very good classes to graduation in a row... two other teams in their conference that I have travelled to have rather bland facilities too.  This could easily be a D3 conference, but scholarship $ let them get kids who are a little better, bigger, quicker.  I'm just not sure it's worth it...

Incidentally, and Greg is already aware of this... I'm going to Orlando tomorrow to see Hope play Carlton, then right down the street from us at Eckerd Thursday or Friday to see Calvin play E Mennonite or Skidmore... will be so much fun to see the MIAA TEAMS in action.

But then you would have to say that most of the non-Power 5 conferences are also without virtue, yes?
