^^^ I've been wondering -- where do those 12 conferences rank in your calculations? Just wondering if SLIAC schools are going up against tougher than average conferences. Is the SLIAC really the worst conference in D3 this season, or were we faced with tougher non-conference competition than the 40th - 44th ranked conferences. Looking for a silver lining.  :)

Answered my own question. Looks like SLIAC teams have been playing against teams in some good conferences. Seven of the twelve conferences are in the top 15, two are in the middle 15, and only three are in the bottom 15. And SLIAC teams are 4-3 vs teams from conferences in the bottom 15. Silver lining found.

No hopefan player of the week for this past week.. too few games

SLIAC vs non conference D3 through 12/22/19    9 wins   40 losses  .184     ranking 45 out of 45 D3 conf

SLIAC vs D3 Conference:

#15  MWC   2   8
#10  ARC    1    9
#24  HCAC   1   7
#5   CCIW    1   6
#35  USAC   2   2
#14  SAA    0    2
#34  NACC   1   1
#2   UAA    0    2
#23  MIAA   0   1
#4   WIAC  0   1
#44 UMAC   1   0
#NCAC   0   1
                         9       40

While I find this extremely disappointing, as I said before, the conference games are so intriguing... 6 teams at 2-1...

Yjack... there is a big YES, BUT to your ciphering.... remember the conference records you quote are including the W/L against the SLIAC

so.. yes the ARC  is No 10 at 46-26 but without the 9-1 vs the SLIAC they would be 37-25, still very good but not as good... they would drop to #12

the MWC at 33-28 would be 25-26 without their 8-2 record vs the SlIAC.. they would drop from 15 to 22

the HCAC at 28-30 but 7-1 vs SLIAC would fall to 21-29, from no 24 to no 33 on the list

finally the CCIW at 47-21 would be 41-20 and move from No 5 to No. 7 on the list....

All those wins vs the SLIAC certainly help the W/L os these leagues, but unfortunately hurt their SOS

y_jack_lok

Well, YES, BUT -- if you do that in reverse the SLIAC comes out looking better. There are a lot of variables unaccounted for in this kind of analysis. No way to claculate them all. I found my silver lining and I'm sticking to it.

hopefan

But I was just commenting on your claim that the SLIAC is playing good conferences, based on theit ratings, which comes from their w/l.   Showing that their high ratings are impacted by games vs the SLIAC. Other conferences do not have that "advantage" in their ratings.

y_jack_lok

Sure, but it works both ways. You can't alter the records of each of those conferences to eliminate their benefit of playing SLIAC teams without also altering the SLIAC's record against those conferences, which would put the SLIAC farther up in your list.

Firstly, Merry Christmas!!!

Secondly, Massey has SLIAC Conf rated #39 overall and having #26 conf SOS against.  *typical massy disclaimers apply.

This seems to line up a bit with y_jack's notion that the league may be a bit better than the record would indicate.

hopefan

Agreed GU... I looked up individual teams the other day and was totally surprised at the ratings of SLIAC teams.... it obviously places a high priority on Strength of Schedule to put us ahead of 6 conferences despite having the worst W-L record vs D3 non conference.....

Blackburn playing E Texas Baptist in a couple of minutes.... SLIAC vs ASC hasn't seen much success in the past......

This is the first SLIAC post Christmas game... I'm keeping my eye on boxscores, hoping there are no surprise losses on SLIAC rosters...

In the mean time, no response from ECred on the status of Jordan Dehm, or from anyone else on the other names I mentioned as MIA  before Christmas

Elijah Wychers from Greenville did return to play vs Dominican
Fontbonne's Gus Kleekamp did not play vs Waldorf
Mac's Trevor Voss did not play vs Coe

E Tex Bap  41... BC 23   at half    BC 1/11 from 3's... 13 turnovers... not much else to be said....

Final  88-69  ETBU.... one way or another, BC plays them even in the 2nd half....

Hopefan Player of the Week for the period 12/16 - 12/29 goes to Blackburn's Karston Hayes
We knew Blackburn would be overmatched down in Texas... but Hayes certainly elevated his level of play during this trip...
38 points , 12/19 from field, 7/14 from 3 vs E Tex Bap............  18 pts, 5 boards vs Texas Dallas

Congrats also to Dakota Bennington, 28 points 7 boards vs D2 Maryville
and  IWU Austin Banks, 11 points 10 assists in IWU win over Lincoln Christian

Frosh of the Week goes to Fontbonne's Elijah Rice....6/8 from the field, 17 points, 5 boards vs Waldorf

Transfer of the week... nothing to write home about

I thought the trip to Texas might have a negative impact on Eureka, but not at all.... They beat U of Dallas easily...  Dakota Bennington leads the way with 25 pts, 7 boards..... nice to see Austin Juergens and Ian Milsteadt bounce back from poor games vs Maryville Mo with solid efforts here to help get the win....

still no Jordan Dehm....

Finally conference games start back up tomorrow...

who will be in uniform as second semester starts?    additions or returns?   subtractions?    addition by subtraction?

Game I'd love to see.... Fontbonne-Webster.....

so, what MIGHT happen today?

BC over Iowa Wez at BC
Eureka over Mac at Mac
Greenville over Spalding at Spalding
Westmin over Prin at Westmin

Webster over Fontbonne at Webster.... but this is a chance for a reversal.....
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Results followed along with the predictions... and quickly the SLIAC race seems to have evolved into  5 teams battling for four tourney spots....

who of Prin, Font, Mac, Spalding, or Iowa Wez can improve to the point of pushing into the group of BC, EC, Webster, Westmin and Greenville?
