Good grief! Webster leads Mac 67-31 at halftime. I was late turning on the game and it was 35-5 when I tuned in. Would love to know what happened the first 8 or so minutes. You don't expect to score 67 in a half unless you are playing Greenville. Dorethy wasn't on the floor for Mac when I started watching, but did come in later.

Final: Webster 126 - Mac 78. Most of the second half was played with no timeouts and very few fouls called. Reserves for both teams finished out the last 4 or so minutes. Couldn't really tell, though as the game never stopped so the camera never went to the scoreboard to se time remaining. From what I could tell Mac just didn't have much defense to speak of.

Just saw the box score. Webster made 14 of 17 three point shots and was 53 of 78 overall from the field.

Today was a great day to be a Red Devil! I think this will be one of Coach Wilde's best road victories as head coach of my beloved Red Devils.

I was watching Greenville (video quality always fine), Blackburn (congrats, don't imagine it was my comments that led to it, but video PERFECT compared to prior fuzz-fests), Westmin (Video fine as usual)... like Yjack, tune into Mac-Webster to see a romp at 10 minutes, so went to another game...

In the long run Greenville-Fontbonne was the only close game, but Greenville pulled away to 14 point lead and I turned it off... MISTAKE... Fontbonne roars back and sends it to OT  (funny thing is, the play by play in the box score is messed up, has game in OT despite showing the score at end of regulation being 136-132 Greenville???  the box score shows it was 137-137 at end of regulation... last entry in play by play in regulation was with 30 second left, GU up 136-132... so who know what happened in last 30 seconds ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hopefan standings after Saturday's games

Blackburn   0    no change beat non contender Principia
Webster     0     no change beat non contender MacMurray
Fontbonne  0     no change lost on road to contender Greenville
Greenville  -1     no change won at home vs contender Fontbonne
Eureka      -1    moves from -2 to -1, winning on the road at Westminster
Westminster  -3   moves from -2 to -3 losing at home to Eureka

Westminster is virtually out of the race... to win out they's have to beat Fontbonne and Blackburn on the road, and Webster at home, and not lose games to 4 non contenders... if they were on an upswing, I'd say this is not impossible... but they are far, far away from being on an upswing....

Ronald Regan's excitement is justified.. the win at Westmin keeps Eureka in the race... hoping it all boils down to those last two games of the season when they play at Webster, and host Greenville..... this is a case where the schedule makers did a great job!!!!  And remember, last year Eureka needed an incredible series of events to occur the last day of the regular season to make the conference tourney, then they  went and won the tourney!!

A 14-point lead in a system game is equivalent to a 5-point lead in a regular game. How much time was left? 5 minutes? 3 minutes?

13 with 4 and a half.... my excuse was Mrs. hopefan was pressuring to go so we could catch pre 6:00 happy hour prices... that's my story and I'm sticking with it...

Spalding's 6 man team plays at Greenville Thursday night... Marcus Montgomery has gone for over 50 against the system, but 6 against 18 seems to indicate a massacre of epic proportions lies ahead...
I would love to know what has happened to Spalding's roster.. of particular interest is the disappearance of Frosh Jaiquan Edwards.... in my tracking this guy was a runaway for Frosh of the year, and in my top 5 in All Conference standings... he then disappeared with key 6th man Braedon Warren.. both have been absent for 3 games... this is well after Robert Bendingfeld, Kendall James, and Tefrell Tolliver became absent in December or very early January...and frosh Mitchell Prince who had been playing close to 40 minutes per game in the last several games, did not suit up in the last game, driving the no of players to 5, but was replaced by another frosh Chance Hill, who was likely on the JV team (is there one?), or recruited from the Spalding pick-up courts (he actually looked pretty good on Saturday).
Who knows?

I believe everyone mentioned is on the roster except for Bendingfeld.

I believe everyone mentioned is on the roster except for Bendingfeld.

That would seem to lead to 2 possible conclusions:

Injuries, and all the missing could come back at some point
or
Someone is not keeping the roster up to date...and there have been at least "some" "defections" for whatever reason....

This is one of the weeks where we are treated to SLIAC games on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.... Prin plays Westmin on Tuesday, 3 games per normal on Wednesday, and Spalding has a long weekend on the road starting Thursday at Greenville.

Unfortunately 4 of those games are non-contenders vs contenders...
Tuesday... Prin at Westmin.... Westmin must win to keep playoff hopes remotely alive... they really should win, too much quickness for Prin to handle
Wednesday...
Blackburn at Iowa Wesleyan... watch out...Iowa Wez already has two wins at home vs contenders
Mac at Eureka.... has Mac hit the wall?... Can Coach Creal awaken his team after a dreadful result at home vs Webster?   another must win for Eureka
Thursday... Spalding at Greenville... as I said before.. Marcus Montgomery may go for 50, and Spalding might lose by 50

So the matchup of contenders is Webster at Fontbonne....Both stay atop the hopefan standings with a Fontbonne home win, Webster pulls ahead of everyone with a road win, and puts Fontbonne into a bit more stressful situation with the loss at home
Currently   Webster 10-2 still tracking to 13-5 with road games at contenders Fontbonne, Blackburn, and Westminster, home game with contender Eureka, and 2 games with non-contenders... if they lose all 3 vs contenders on the road and win other 3, 13-5 finish
Fontbonne 8-4 has only one game on the road with a contender, at Eureka..and two games vs contenders at home, Webster and Westmin, and 3 games with non contenders... win at home and against non contenders and they finish 13-5

Webster won by 13 in the first meeting... but that was a 4 point game with 5 minutes left when Webster pulled away... and that was BEFORE Anthony Jones had earned a starting spot for the Griffs, though he was the leading scorer for Fontbonne that night with 16, off the bench...

Something interesting I just noticed... the SLIAC board at this second shows 1,997, 940 views.... wonder if we'll get to 2 million before I leave for the land down under next Tuesday??!!

What could possibly be "down under next Tuesday"? Next Wednesday, perhaps?

Thanks, I'm here all week. Don't forget to tip the waitstaff.

Webster at Fontbonne.... Great to see the SLIAC's only real rivalry game be critical in the standings again... I'm looking forward to watching tonight....

Reminds me of the days when Denny and I would "discuss" the merits of the Griffs and Gorlocks and the rest...

Denny, hope you're watching tonight....

What was a big night in the SLIAC now looks to be another single game evening.

February 5, 2020:

Blackburn @ Iowa Wesleyan (IWU -6.5)

IWU is 6 - 2 overall and 5-1 v. the SLIAC at home this season.  I look for this to continue.  IWU is coming off a school record setting 3 point day (albeit against Spauldoing's short bench) where they hit 23 3's.  Blackburn allows opponents to shoot it at 40.2% from three.  A hot shooting team, at home, a home which is a significant bus ride away, against a poor defensive team from 3, should be just too much for Blackburn to overcome.
