What was a big night in the SLIAC now looks to be another single game evening.

February 5, 2020:

Blackburn @ Iowa Wesleyan (IWU -6.5)

IWU is 6 - 2 overall and 5-1 v. the SLIAC at home this season.  I look for this to continue.  IWU is coming off a school record setting 3 point day (albeit against Spauldoing's short bench) where they hit 23 3's.  Blackburn allows opponents to shoot it at 40.2% from three.  A hot shooting team, at home, a home which is a significant bus ride away, against a poor defensive team from 3, should be just too much for Blackburn to overcome.

Didn't know what you meant at first (not snowing here)...  but I see both Font-WU and Mac-EC are being moved to Thursday...Agree IWU-BC is worth keeping an eye on...

It really was a big win for Blackburn last night... as Both GU and I pointed out, Iowa Wesleyan had been playing very well, a win over Blackburn was a very real possibility... instead BC takes the trip and dominates the game... for a change it wasn't the Karson Hayes show either, as he scored only 13.... Stovall, Aldridge and Love each had good games off the bench and that made a major difference...  For IWU, only Jake Neubauer really showed up.... Neubauer has had a string of 4 OUTSTANDING games now, making me wonder what generates a change from the very inconsistent numbers he was putting up earlier in the year...check out last 4 games
v, s Prin  7/15 from 3's, 23 points, 8 rebs, 3 assts, 3 steals
vs Westminster  4/9 from 3's, 17 points, 7 rebs, 2 assts, 2 steals
vs Spalding  5/10 from 3's, 21 points, 5 rebd, 7 assts, 1 steal
vs Blackburn  7/12 from 3's, 26 points, 5 rbds, 2 assts, 4 steals

Note, Neubauer is a 5'11" senior guard

Hopefan standings after T/W/Th games

Webster     +1     Went from 0 to +1 winning AT Fontbonne
Blackburn   0    no change beating non contender Iowa Wesleyan
Fontbonne   -1    Went from 0 to -1 losing at home to Webster
Greenville  -1     no change beat non contender Spalding
Eureka      -2   moves from -1 to -2, losing to non contender MacMurray
Westminster  -3   no change beating non contender Principia

with remaining schedules, if these 6 contenders beat non contenders, win at home vs contenders, and lose on the road to contenders, this is how conference standings will finish... with 0 = 13 wins....

Just not sure about this one. Never a given to win on the road in this conference, but this one might come back to haunt the Red Devils. Too late in the season to be dropping games like this.

3 games last night... here are some comments...
Mac over Eureka... great win for Mac.. hard to understand this team...some totally unexpected wins over Eureka, Westmin, Greenville... some horrendous losses, by 48 to Webster (at home), by 39 to Iowa Wez... Logan Doherty 2 subpar games in a row, is he running out of steam?   all credit to Drue and Burwinkle for the win last night, two unsung guards who did everything right vs Eureka... as for Eureka, same story as last year, perhaps the best talent in the conference, they'll need a miracle finish to the season in order to make the conference tourney.... question, what happened to Jalen Hosea last night? Starting point guard, only 22 minutes, little used Austyn Ellison in at crunch time...and Ian Milsteadt has virtually disappeared, what's gone wrong?  this is the stuff I miss not being at games....

Webster Fontbonne... a team loss for Fontbonne.. no one with exception of Noah Coddington did anything to win that game... Webster clearly the best in the league, despite beginning to show a short bench (they're just not getting much from it).. 5 starters are really putting it together, and  think it's a very good thing not to be dependent on Josh Johnson to be a huge scorer...

Greenville Spalding... Spalding still dressing only 6... I give them all the credit in the world for not quitting vs the hoards of Greenville.. at half time, I actually thought GU might run to 180, 190 points     Instead, Spalding actually won the 2nd half

AND NOW, this streaming expert has to complain again... all three games had major faults, I can't see why the SLIAC schools can't get this right...
1).. Fontbonne... the women's game was focused fine, with crowd audio... Men's game, no audio, video was out of focus the whole game, VERY difficult to watch
2).. Greenville.. the women's game was unwatchable, as the stream kept on jumping all over, forwards two seconds, back three seconds... let's watch the same person taking the ball out of bounds 5 times... the men's game seemed to correct the problem for awhile, then it started again... impossible to watch
3) ..   Mac... the camera shot shows almost the whole court at once.. the viewer feels like he's watching the game from the cheap seats in a a football stadium... then for a while, about 50% of the shot was the lovely ceiling of the building... so half ceiling, half football stadium view...

aaaaahhhhh

Josh Jonnson banked in a halfcourt buzzer beater to give Webster a 33-30 halfrime lead at Fontbonne last night. Fontbonne moved ahead 43-41 in the first five minutes of the second half, but Webster went on a 10-2 run to secure the lead for good. In that stretch Fontbonne turned the ball over on two of three possessions that led to two Webster fast break dunks, by Blake Ferrell and Rod Etienne. The one by Ferrell was especially impressive as he had two defenders right with him and threw it down in stride at full speed. During that brief stretch Fontbonne looked really fatigued and although they got as close as four points a couple of times I felt that they were not likely to come back all the way the rest of the game. It was a great environment in the gym -- lots of people and really loud with strong support for both teams.

Always great to see a vocal crowd at a SLIAC game.. as I said, this is the only real rivalry in the conference... Greenville's system play has stepped up crowd enthusiasm especially at home... wish Mac-Blackburn could generate that rivalry feel, but I never noticed it happening.... that was one of the things that hurt the conference with Maryville leaving, as the rivalry build was generated between the three St Louis schools rather than the current two... I also remember that things got very loud with Maryville-Blackburn as they were the two best teams in the conference when I first started..a good group of boisterous BC students would make the drive down to Maryville

If this is goimg to continue then you need to keep posting and keep complaining when other people don't post. Without you we are nothing. Hopefan is the MVP of the SLIAC boards.
