As for my dudes at GU.  Well done.  You played your hearts out all year and You certainly entertained and impressed this GU hoops alum.  Riley , Barry, Eric, Santiago, and Darrell - much respect!  I hope our paths cross at an alumni event in the future.

Congratulations to coach Bunch, his staff and all the players on Webster's great win this afternoon. They created more turnovers than they committed, which has to be rare against the System. The Gorloks never trailed and the game was only tied once, at 107 with 2:13 remaining. It took Greenville almost 18 minutes to erase an 11 point halftime deficit, and just when it looked like the System might claim another victim tournament MVP and SLIAC Newcomer of the Year Wynne Brown, Jr hit a three then got a steal that led to a Rod Etienne dunk. Following another GU turnover Webster got another basket and Greenville had to start fouling. The Gorloks made seven of eight free throws to keep the pressure on and seal the win.

A terrific season for Webster. Seemed like they just kept working hard and improving as the season went on and it paid off. Congratulations again.

Back in time to see the championship game.... and a great game it was....
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Special congrats to #11 Marvin Bateman I'm becoming the all-time SLIAC conference three-point field-goal makes leader with 270.  The old mark was 265 held by 4-year player Josh Branch (Fontbonne 06-10).  Bateman (jr) should solidify this mark for along time during his senior campaign.

^^^ Congrats to Bateman. That's quite an accomplishment. I remember Josh Branch. I'm sure hopefan will too. The kid could definitely shoot. If I'm not mistaken he was unable to finish his senior season for some reason. If had played a full four years rather than 3+ Bateman might have fallen a bit short.

Did you happen to notice their # of shots taken and their 3 pt shooting percentages? It seems that playing in the System Bateman is likely to get more shots. But Branch likely played more minutes per game, so that could even it out.

GU1999

So the SLIAC site has Branch's last three seasons listed.  You were correct that he played only 14 games that year.  Bateman only played 19 this year.. So that isn't too much of a disparity.  In Branch's last three years he never shot a higher percentage than Bateman's lowest year.

^^^ Thanks. An impressive career for Bateman.

Indeed it will be. If Josh Branch's record has stood for ten years then Bateman's might be unbreakable.

You're absolutely right about the legend in Kenosha. Another good coach and person is at Milliken. He's got a tough sell down there . But he's the type of guy who can get it done if given the chance.

Well, the SLIAC gets another shot at Nebraska Wesleyan.

Washington University gets the first game against Bethany Lutheran.

Nebraska Wesleyan handled Eureka easily last year. Clobberd them by 31 points in the first half. EC outscored them by five, putting up 51 points, in the second half. I watched the first half of that game and EC was unable to defend NWU nor get anything going offensively. Not sure what the second half difference was, but EC never got closer than 23.

Webster is a better defensive team than Eureka, so if the Gorloks can stay within reach in the first half this might be an interesting game.

The health of NWU senior superstar Nate Schimonitz is also a factor. It's been posted in the ARC room that he has a hamstring injury.
