I was thinking about that too, but I tried to think of comparable acronyms that function as words so I did a quick Google search and found:

IMAX
TIME Magazine

GIF or Gif
ZIP code
SIM card
NIMBY

A better rule would be to match the pronunciation of the word represented (in this case, intercollegiate), but no one is asking me.

RogK

And certainly no one asked me, but my first visit to Phonics was on Feb 14 1986 when I attended the Suns' 112-95 victory over Denver at Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum. This was a night after seeing the Clippers edge Portland 118-113 at the LA Sports Arena, with a Greyhound bus ride in between.

Just for fun on a semi-dormant board, GUs best athlete to every do it had a great day yesterday against rival Denver, at least that is that Jon Gruden thought.

Fourth year pro, Nicholas Morrow (LV Raiders)

Specifically, Coach Gruden had the following to say after the game:

"He's the same Nicholas Morrow he was last year. He's a really good player," Gruden said to reporters after the game. "At this point in his career, I think his experience in the system shows. I think his confidence in himself is showing. And I thought he cut it loose today and really had his best game as a Raider. I can't wait to see this film.

"He's such a great kid, coming from a real small school. Quite a transition for him, changing coaches, changing systems. I think he's going to be a really good linebacker in this league for a while."

Boys, let's play...

https://sliac.org/general/2020-21/releases/20201116sosgf0

Just saw that. Not much detail, but here are the last two sentences of the very brief press release: "While the schedules have been approved, spring sport competition will still be contingent upon the status of Covid-19 spread and access to appropriate testing as well as guidance from local and national public health officials. The approval of the 2021 spring schedules will provide a total of 9 team sports with a regular-season schedule plus a championship tournament while an additional 8 individual sports will hold a conference championship meet."

It will be interesting to see what the schedules look like when they are published later in the week.

I believe Webster is one of a number of Missouri institutions that are moving to online only after Thanksgiving, but they were due to play after January 1 at the earliest that does not change much.

Webster is showing a schedule with conference only games starting on Jan. 2nd and ending on Feb 20th. It is likely incomplete as it shows 13 games (two games vs five teams and one game vs three teams), while the women's schedule shows 14 games (two games vs 6 teams and one game vs two teams). Volleyball and men's and women's soccer each have seasons starting on Feb 23rd.

Here's the men's schedule: https://websterathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/schedule

I did not realize that the prior assistant left Webster, but it looks like Bunch opened up opportunities for three former players to join the coaching staff.

It is my knowledgeable guess that the above schedule will become obsolete within a couple days....totally obsolete... I'm wondering if it is simply the remainder of the original schedule with games not yet marked postponed because of the magic Jan 1 date... anyway, nobody make travel plans based on that schedule..... ;) ;)

Wondering if it was a mandated cost cutting situation... the loss of Landon Kurz who had been on the staff for 8 years is a mystery... wondering if he is pursuing other Basketball jobs or is getting out.....

it is a great opportunity for the trio of Johnson, Clay and Hopp...

WELL WELL WELL....

Kudos to the SLIAC for getting the new schedule out... it is now up for each team in the D3hoops schedules, and is exactly as I had heard..

Each team is playing 10 games, all league games... the schedule begins in late February, runs through March....

Though they don't yet appear on any team's posted schedule, teams may play non conference games... HOWEVER, they must be played no later than 2 weeks prior to a SLIAC team's first conference game... in other words, if a team wanted to, they could schedule nonconference games in January or early February.

There will be a conference tourney, including all teams, AND there will be a consolation round so that everyone gets a minimum of two games in the tourney.

It is obvious with the timing of the above schedule that the SLIAC will not be participating in the D3 Tourney if and When it is played....

Very grateful that the league is making plans reasonably attainable plans for a season.  At this point all one can do is make the plans and see what happens, but at least there are plans.

I should have understood bringing up a GU alum footballer tearing it up for the Raiders would be a bridge too far for this board, but how about a throw back GU hooper (pre-SLIAC) who is in the global hoops conversation again this week...  The new ESPN Woj Pod series goes into detail about  "The Giannis Draft" ...   Of course, I am of course referring to GU great John Hammond ('76).  The man who dashed Danny Ferry's plans to have young Giannis in Atlanta by drafting the 2x MVP 15th for the Bucks.

I've also heard the SLIAC will opt out of the NCAA tournament in favor of playing a more extended schedule that goes into late-March or April.
