And it continues... Eureka, who is off this weekend with Spalding game cancelled, plays Cornell last night... a 71-70 win!!!

Big comeback for Eureka, down 8 with a couple minutes left.....Ian Millstedt makes a 3 point play with 16  seconds left(2 and 1) to put Eureka up 1, and per the play by play report, Cornell missed a layup with a second left... of course that "layup" could have been anything from an uncontested end of the world miss to a highly contested  or blocked 5-10 foot shovel shot...

Going into Friday night games, only Eureka has not yet lost in conference games.... but they have only played two games with wins over Blackburn and Iowa Wez... obviously the remaining schedule is challenging....

Good bounce back win for Eureka after getting walloped 10 days previously by Cornell.

Eureka consistent scoring 71 in each game, but held Cornell to 26 less.

Is Eureka a top team?  My gut is that it is a bit of iron pyrite.

As I see Eureka.... extremely dependent on 2 men to score... Millsteadt and Daniels.... both good players, but I don't term either as "consistent"... Andrew Gonzolez who played very little as a frosh, shows great potential..... big question is can the rest of the crew measure up to SLIAC competition....

In my mind, stop Millsteadt, and you're gonna win... on the other hand, he's the kind of player... to the basket... that could rattle Greenville for 50...

Eureka has been tough for GU over the past few years.  And, Milstead and Daniels played well against them last year in reserve roles.  If Eureka can limit its turnovers and rebound well, they will win.  I am not sure that this group of Devils will get it done.  Anyone can get 50 against GU but if Milstead is responsible for breaking the press and gets 50 that would stand out.

I see I was wrong about Spalding... they did play Eureka today...Eureka wins, led by Daniels and Milsteadt with 22 each... EC stays on top of conference standings.

Some readers may have watched the series "Last Chance U" on Netflix.... there were several seasons on Netflix, a show following a junior college team through it's football season, and concentrating on several specific individuals to show their successes and failures.... it was a fantastic show... FANTASTIC....

Well, Netflix has just put out the same Last Chance U, but this time reviewing a JUCO Basketball team...just started streaming March 11
Of real interest is that the school being focused on is East Los Angeles Junior College....  Greenville has pulled probably a dozen players out of California Jucos... gives us a chance to get a feel where those guys might be coming from....

The Show is great.  East LA Coach Mosley is great character.  And better coach. My favorite of the three coaches featured on the series to date.

To your point about GU pulling players from from places like East LA JC, you are spot on.  Key GU players past and present can be found all over EastLA box scores.  Current players Tyler Jelks and Henry Johnson in particular.   I plan to do a list in the near future, but I think that the early System teams are loaded with guys from East LA's league.  LA Harbor has been GUs best pipeline, but West LA and Trade Tech have multiple representatives.

ec vs. fontbonne cancelled due to covid protocols within fontbonne's program.

ian milsteadt wins third straight sliac player of the week.  not bad for a guy who wasn't even on the watch list.

Three POW awards for Milstead is great.  I am sure he will have a game that looks statistically amazing against GU this weekend so he could get his fourth.

I am curious about the schedule.  It looks to have FUs COVID games marked as cancelled while the Spalding COVID games were marked as postponed.  Does anyone know if the words differential means anything.   I know the intentionality of word use has been hashed out for other leagues, but I do not recall a conversation for the SLIAC.

In a fun GU sports aside, it could be a life changing day for former GU safety turned NFL LB Nicholas Morrow.  I expect him to sign in free agency today.  His market has been pretty hot with projected landing spots being back with the Raiders (would need to be a team friendly deal), the Jets, WFT.  My projection is 3 years and 22MM (9MM guaranteed) and not with the Raiders.

We watched the first two seasons about the East Mississippi CC football team. Thought their coach was a real jerk. Passed on the third football season about the team in Kansas, then last week watched the first episode about the ELAC hoops team and their coach, who seems to be a much better coach, person and role model than the guy in Mississippi. Will probably get around to the rest of it eventually. There is no dearth of talented athletes hoping to have sports careers, but a limited set of opportunities to make a living on the playing field/court. Would be nice if every talented athlete that wants to pursue their dream at least gets a shot to do so.

Seems like he'll be able to afford a healthy donation to his alma-mater....  wonder if he ever comes back to visit?  where did he come to Greenville from?

Regarding the football....All in all a fascinating study in the personalities of the coach, the players, the Academic lady, the school president...
