In a fun GU sports aside, it could be a life changing day for former GU safety turned NFL LB Nicholas Morrow.  I expect him to sign in free agency today.  His market has been pretty hot with projected landing spots being back with the Raiders (would need to be a team friendly deal), the Jets, WFT.  My projection is 3 years and 22MM (9MM guaranteed) and not with the Raiders.

Seems like he'll be able to afford a healthy donation to his alma-mater....  wonder if he ever comes back to visit?  where did he come to Greenville from?

He was born in St. Louis, but grew up in Huntsville, AL. By all accounts a great young man and very good football player.  Entering rarified air for d3 guys in the NFL.  As linebackers go, I'd say he has snuck ahead of Andy Studebaker, but will be chasing London Fletcher for the next ten years.

I have seen some stuff about Morrow returning to campus.  Hosted a coat drive or something on one trip.

Just finished watching the final episode of Last Chance... maybe BETTER than the seasons of Football....
Incredible emotional last episode... This show is just GREAT...  These kids and coaches are my heroes.....

Ian Rappaport is reporting that Morrow is staying with the Raiders.  1 year.  5MM (4.5 guaranteed).    Certainly betting on himself a bit.

I couldn't agree more that Last Chance U (ELAC basketball) was great.  Given Hope's great initial observation about the number of kids GU has pulled from LA area jucos, I thought I'd put together a list, albeit one I know is incomplete:

LA Harbor* - Shane Smith+, Kenny Greene+, Quincy Pinkard, Henry Johnson (current)
Canyons - Ron Harris+
Trade Tech* - Tyler Jelks (current), Kieshaun Young-Jones
West LA - Santi Grady+, Isiah Price+
Carritos - Marquis Scott
Fullerton - Andrew Scott+
El Camino* - Elmo Smith+,  Justin Reyes

* in ELAC's league
+ all SLIAC or SLIAC sportsmanship

This list does not include the northern cali guys like Kenneth Cooley, Josias Parker, RaKim Murphy, Austin Hershburger, Savante Young
Or the CA high school guys like Austyn Contraras

I forgot to mention what a great win for Blackburn over Webster the other night... Webster appeared to have the game won in regulation and in the first OT, but BC would not quit and caught them both times.. and then pulled out the victory in the 2nd OT....nothing wrong with Webster's efforts, BC made the huge 3's to stay in it....

As topsy tirvy as the SLIAC is, I wouldn't be surprised to see Spalding win at Blackburn tonight..

I also note that Fontbonne's next 2 games are cancelled with the Covid protocol, but their final 3 after that are still scheduled.....hoping the SLIAC still plays the conference Tourney as originally announced and that all "available" schools will play, despite some of the schools missing multiple conference games.  With what these guys have been through, they deserve the shot....

Eureka at Greenville tonight... interesting

Greenville.. I perceive a little better shooting than they've had in the past, but not yet able to put the defensive pressure on at a level they have achieved in the past

Eureka... 2 scorers and some good role players..

I just feel that Greenville comes out on top tonight... though I'm wrong more often than right

BUT the team everyone should be talking about is Blackburn... has anyone noticed they are 5-1 in conference??!!   And look at their season... start 1-1 with easy win over Iowa Wez, big  loss to Eureka... I figure that's typical.. BC will finish lower level in standings.

THEN!!!
5 point win at Fontbonne who was the predicted Conference winner
1 point win at Westminster
Double OT win over Webster
OT win over Spalding

Any team in the conference can beat this team, but they haven't let it happen... Hats Off!!!!

Those last two posts got me thinking about the hopefan standings. I'm assuming there is no effective way to do that this season.

i've only seen them against ec, and ec handled them pretty easily.  blackburn was a bad shooting team that night and i wasn't very impressed with them.  i didn't watch any of the other games, see they shot poorly in those last three wins, yet westmin web and spalding all shot worse.  hope, is this a matter of blackburn being decent or those three teams not being as good as expected.

i'm also taking ec to win handily on the road tonight at greenville.  hosea and company can handle the pressure and just too much scoring prowess on the back end of the press for greenville to keep up.

GU1999

As surprised as I am to say it, Blackburn is the team to beat.  In a shortened regular season, getting 5 of the first 6 is Huge.  The top tier will be in chase mode with very little margin for error.

Games remaining*:

Blackburn (5-1) -  4 (GU x 2, Eureka, IWU) Projected Finish 7 - 3
Eureka (3-0) -      4 (GU, Westminster, Blackburn, Webster) Projected Finish 4 - 3
Webster (3 -2) -   5 (Spalding x2, Fontbonne, Westminster, Eureka) Projected Finish 6-4
Greenville (2-2) -  5 (or 6) (Spalding 1 or 2, Blackburn x2, IWU, Eureka) Projected Finish 7 - 3

Fontbonne (1-3) - 3 (Webster, Spaulding, IWU) Projected Finish 3 -4
Spalding (0-2) -    5 (or 6) (GU 1 or 2, Fontbonne, Westminster, IWU, Webster)  Projected Finish 0 - 8
IWU (2-3) -          5 (Spalding, Westminster, Blackburn, GU, Fontbonne) Projected Finish 4-6
Westminster (1-4) 4 - (IWU, Eureka, Webster, Spalding) Projected Finish 4-4

* Games scheduled or marked as Postponed

GU1999

Big win for GU over Eureka.   Shot it really well from 3.  Turned EU over 30 times.  24 live ball steals.  Vinsel 7 for 11 from 3.  Jarred Johnson 17p and 8 steals.  Milatead had a huge line.  45 points on (23 shots) 9 reb and 5 assists.

GU1999

Blackburn stays hot.  Takes down GU on the road.  Clearly the front runner now.  GU shoots badly and only had a +10 turnover margin.  Need to shoot 33%+ from 3 and win to's by 15+ to win against the team at the top of the league.

Westminster loses to IWU.  This Westminster (1-5) team may be the biggest surprise if the season.  I suspect they will turn it around.

GU1999

If anyone is interested in seeing GU's post game "afterglow" (which usually happens in the locker room), it is shown in the last 12 minutes of the stream from yesterday's game.  It was great that family were able to attend for senior day.
