Interesting stat

Greenville Coach Barber Coaching Record is 288   269   .517

Coach Barber's record prior to using "the system"    200    206    .493

Coach Barber's record using the system..      88   63     .583     (started in season 2015-16)

Accomplishments since implementing the System:
- first NCAA tourney trip
- three years where they either won outright or tied for the regular season conference championship, two second place finishes and one 3rd place finish.  Previous 6 years, they had 2 T-4th's, 3 5th's, and a 7th.
- numerous NCAA records set
- notoriety that small schools do not usually get
- multiple games played on ESPN family of networks

To quote the great Michael Gary Scott, Its a "Win-Win-Win" situation.
Win (actual games won, especially in the league)
Win (greater participation and JV and Var roster sizes)
Win (just for me, the fun of doing it differently)

A bit of speculation on my part with this comment, but I suspect that the strength of schedule overall has been better since the 15/16 season as well.

I had to miss the GU v. NC game on Saturday.  I watched some of it last night.  The broadcasters said that six of the varsity guys were not available due to health concerns.

The team played with 4 JV call ups.  North Central is a very tall task with a full compliment of players, but going into the game shorthanded...

Webster 72, Wash U 60. Still processing what I saw, but it's good to back in a gym seeing hoops in person -- way better than watching online. I guess what I would say about Webster is that they played an intelligent game with tremendous effort.

WUPHF

What can you say about that game?

Webster gets their second win in three seasons.

Webster played a tough, physical game and found ways to score while Washington University struggled.  At one point, two Bears were deep in the paint and missed on four consecutive layups.  It was that kind of night.

The Bears played without a starter and without a projected starter so they could see an immediate boost if one or both return.  Bears get another shot a week from tonight.

Who are the two players you are referring to? I'm guessing Charlie Jacob is one.

Great win for Webster, but let's not overlook Principia beating Central.... this was a real shocker.... Central had already beat Blackburn, as well as Illinois College (who had beat Webster, and Prin)....   Prin is in its typical situation of having 2 or 3 good players but limited talent beyond that... capable of pulling the upset, but foul trouble will beat them....Byrd, Sellers, and Davidson are good players....

SLIAC is off to an 0 and 10 start.

Between now and November 25 there will be 39 additional games played.  If I were handicapping these 39 based on what I currently know, I would have the SLIAC favored in 4 of the games and all four are home games for the SLIAC.

Spalding v. Boyce on the 15th
Eureka v Knox on the 17th
Greenville v. Northpark on the 20th
Fontbonne v. Lincoln Christian on Nov 23rd

Of course any of these games could be won.   Massey has the SLIAC going 2 and 37 during this stretch with only the wins coming against Boyce and Lincoln Christian.  If correct, the SLIAC would be off to a 2 and 47 start.

Lets hope I am wrong.

I was REALLY wrong.  Since getting off to an 0 - 10 start, the SLIAC is 8 - 7.  With wins over Buena Vista, Simpson x2, York (NY), Dominican, Boyce, WashU, and Central (IA).

Let's keep rolling SLIAC.

GU, the last winless SLIAC team, may be that way for awhile.  I would like to think that the North Park game on Saturday would be a really good chance to get win #1 (and it may be), but I fear that NPU is a much better than the last time these two teams faced off.  During the 2018/9 season, the game at NPU resulted in a 40 point difference (153-113) and Dr. Barber taking the press off for the last half of the 2nd.

I'd like to think so, of course, but NPU really hasn't proved anything yet. The competence of the Vikings at handling tons of ball pressure was tested and found wanting in their overtime loss to Cal Lutheran last Saturday, and what the Kingsmen doled out to NPU in terms of pressing, trapping, and ballhawking will be ramped up even more by the Panthers this coming weekend.

Greenville loses at Loras...166-74. Ouch.

Halftime score 97-39.  Double ouch.  Loras shoots 79.8% on the night (71-89)  :o :o :o

Perhaps this is karma for the obscene 200 points vs Fontbonne several years ago... too bad Loras took their foot off the gas in the 2nd half....

So let me get this straight, Hope, you think that their is a cosmic punishment for Dr. Barber moving a score from 196 to 200 three+ years ago that caused a team to have health issues?  Pretty cold man.  While I am not a Buddist, I know a bit about the notion of Karma and I don't think that you fully grasp the concept.  Nobody else except you bear the fruit of your karma. You bear the fruit of your own karma and your family members or the team you coach bear the fruit of their own karma.  If your family or team is suffering due to some reason, it is because of their own past karma.  But, hope, do you really believe in that?  I had you down as a critical thinker.

If you are looking for actual reasons for the outcome, how about these:

- Duhawks are a better team than GU
- Game was played on the road
- Tough to compete without, Cooley, Johnson, Johnson, Ball, and Dickey
- GU only travelled 11 last night.  Of that group, only Chris Jackson may be the only Panther to have played meaningful minutes for the Varsity before this season

What I saw was a bunch of tired kids who are still learning what it takes to play at the pace needed for Dr. Barber's version of the "System" to be effective.  They will learn.  Kids will get healthy.

Query for fun:  Would history have been different if Chris Martin had played for Dr. Barber @ GU?

Yes, the fact that you can't spell "Buddhist" is what tipped me off. ;)

I baked the fruit of my karma into a delicious pie!

Mmmm ... karma-fruit pie ...

Far be it for me to speak on hopefan's behalf, since he's thoroughly capable of defending himself, but I believe that he is not using the classic definition of karma taken from Eastern faith traditions and philosophy, but rather the modern colloquial American definition of karma: "An opportunity to express schadenfreude at the expense of a person or group who has offended the speaker in the past."

I'm assuming one of the Greenville practice pods had covid issues?  I know they kept the team separated in half last year, separate busses and everything, to ensure they could keep fielding a team.  I can't imagine they have this many injuries.
