Far more scientific than Pat suggests...

Hopefan standings were to rank the 'contenders'
A contender got 0 for doing the expected, 1 for doing the positive unexpected, and (1) for not doing the expected

So first, who are the contenders?
If we go with 4, it's obvious... Spalding, Webster, Greenville, and Lyon.... It could be extended to 5 if desired.  My thoughts are stick with 4...

Expectations
1 A contender always beats a non contender... no positives earned, but (1) for a contender's loss to a non contender, home or away.

2 A contender should win at home vs another contender, and is permitted to lose away at another contender.
Therefore, a contender home win vs a contender earns no +or - points for either team, but a contender home loss to a contender gets a +1 for the winning away team and a -1 for the losing home team.

Any questions, class?   Do your homework independently and see what the hopefan standings are going into tomorrow.  Show your calculations!!! Will you come up with the same answer?

Hint... we do have a leader...

First, before math is done, here is my guess.

Give me, in this order:
- Webster
- Spalding
- Greenville
- Lyon

Math forthcoming.

GU1999

Went with 4 contenders... to match up with my "wholly arbitrary" Top Tier.

1) Spalding (+1)
T-2) Greenville (0)
T-2) Lyon (0)
4) Webster (-1)

Spalding (3-1 v. contenders):
 - Split with GU, both held serve at home, 0 HOPEFAN Pts.
 - Beat Webster at Webster, 1 HOPEFAN pt
 - Beat Lyon at home, 0 HOPEFAN pts
 - No losses to non-contenders, 0 HOPEFAN Pts.

TOTAL - +1 HOPEFAN pt

Greenville (1-2 v. contenders)
 - Split with Spalding, both held serve at home, 0 HOPEFAN Pts.
 - Lost to Webster @ Webster, 0 HOPEFAN Pts.
 - No losses to non-contenders, 0 HOPEFAN Pts.

TOTAL - 0 HOPEFAN pts

Lyon (0-2 v. Contenders)
 - Lost to Webster at Webster, 0 HOPEFAN pts.
 - Lost to Spalding at Spalding, 0 HOPEFAN pts.
 - No losses to non-contenders, 0 HOPEFAN pts.

TOTAL - 0 HOPEFAN pts.

Webster (2-1 v Contenders)
 - Beat Lyon at home, 0 HOPEFAN pts.
 - Beat GU at home, 0 HOPEFAN pts.
 - Lost to Spalding at home, -1 HOPEFAN pts.
 - No losses to non-contenders, 0 HOPEFAN pts.

TOTAL - -1 HOPEFAN pts.

Hoping for predictions and analysis from GU1999 on today's slate of games. Lyon at Greenville is definitely the game of the day.

The penultimate game in the Webster/Fontbonne rivalry is also important as the Griffins really need a win to remain in contention for one of the six tournament spots. Also, Webster needs to defend home court so as not to fall further behind in the hopefan standings. Which raises a question about those calculations. Does a home loss to a non-contender result in minus two points in those standings?

Yjack.....Any loss to a non contender regardless of location is -1

LYON @ GU - GU by 5.  GU won both matchups last year and GU is stronger this year than last.  GU does need to shoot at a reasonable level.  They will not get as many offensive rebounds against the very big Lyon lineup.  Malik Madison may have 10 dunks.

Webster over Fontbonne by 7. The last Battle of Big Bend will be competitive, but the better team will prevail.  But it would be fun to get one last with for the Griffins against Webster.

Westminster at Eureka:  Westminster by 1.
Eureka, the better team to begin with is playing at home, but today it doesn't matter.  Westmin is hyper focused seeing this as a winnable game and the catch Eureka by surprise.  Peewee pulls a Shea Feehan and scores 30+ in the loss.

Prin @ Blackburn: Beavers by 8

The world famous never dome strikes again.  Prin gets way down early and just can't climb all the way back.

Spalding against MUW:  Spalding wins by 14.  But the teams don't hit the over/under of 118.  Coach Greg knows how to teach defense.

Nailed it. GU 121, Lyon 116.

The other predictions (see above) not so accurate, though awfully close with Prin/Blackburn and Spalding/MUW.

GU1999

Spalding game.  Got winner correct.  Got win margin with in 3. Got the o/u.  But... had a typo with the coaches name.  👎🏻

Greenville game.  Got the winner and margin of victory.  Off on Malik dunks by 3.  I think he ended up with 7.  Could have been 8.  👎🏻

Blackburn game.  Got winner.  Missed margin by 2 points.  👎🏻

Webster game.  Got winner.  Missed margin by 7.  👎🏻

Eureka game.  Didn't get winner correct.  Note to self, don't pick 2025 Westmin even on a gut shot. Peewee only had 15.  👎🏻

With Spalding and Webster winning over non-contenders and GU winning at home over the fourth contender, it would seem there are no changes to the hopefan standings. Thus the hopefan standings remain:

1) Spalding (+1)
T-2) Greenville (0)
T-2) Lyon (0)
4) Webster (-1)

I noticed that the final day of the season has Webster playing at Fontbonne.  Congrats to the SLIAC official who scheduled it this way. Certainly no better rivalry exists within the SLIAC.  Here's hoping that Fontbonne plays it up right, inviting back virtually any Griff hoops alumni who is still with us... and perhaps even former Webster players who shared in the relationship between the two teams. I'm sure great memories for many players...Recognizing these players pregame or half- time is the thing to do... I hope it's a sell- out.
