Final from Greenville:

Harris Stowe 80, Greenville 78 (F)

I think we got the Fontbonne game handed back to us.  Taylor with the ball on Greenville's end with the clock running under 10 seconds.  Lee for HSSC stole the ball and layed it up with 1.3 left on the clock (78-80).  Greenville had to rally late to get the lead.  Up four within the last minute but couldnt hold on.

STAT OF THE NIGHT: 26.  Greenville lost because of this number.  26 turnovers.

Tough way to go into Christmas break.  Picking up two huge SLIAC wins over BC & FU and then two big losses to Harris-Stowe and Robert Morris.  Opening with Principia doesn't hurt get us back in the grove on January 6.

On a side note, this weekend was the Habitat for Humanity Classic.  The goal was to get $500 in donations to go towards a Greenville Habitat House.  Over the two days, we did meet our goal of $500.  Thanks to all in attandance and all who contributed.

Mac Attack

"IF" MacMurray was submitting its game stats to the SLIAC office, here are some interesting numbers through Mac's first five games:

84.2 ppg (1st in conference)
50.3 FG% (1st in conference)
39.7 3pt% (tied for 1st in conference)
Robertson 18 ppg (1st in conference)
Coleman, Whalum, Compton, & Greene all in top 20 in scoring
Robertson 3rd in rebounding ppg and Greene 5th
Robertson 1st in FG% (41-58)
Whalum, Coleman, Compton, and Greene all in top 15 in FG%
Coleman 2nd in assists
Greene 3rd in FT% (18-21) and Whalum 4th in FT% (17-21)
Compton 1st, Coleman 2nd, and Whalum 4th in 3pt%
Robertson 2nd in offensive rebounds pg
Greene 4th in defensive rebound pg

The 136 points scored by Grinnell will skew Mac's points allowed per game all season long. That's the price we paid for playing them. But throw that game out and Mac's pts allowed per game numbers are good and going down every game. Highlanders are playing much better defense.

Now all we need is an SID and we'll be in business....

I want to apologize for any misconceptions I created with my post about Eureka fans. Nothing took place between Eureka and Fontbonne fans at all. If anyone takes offense, I'm sorry. What pantherpride06 describes goes far beyond what I experienced last night at the Eureka-Fontbonne game. The Eureka fans certainly did nothing on the order of what "pride" says the Fontbonne coaching staff did. And the Eureka coach was totally composed throughout the game. So I guess I have yet to experience the worst fan and coaching staff behavior I'll see. And I wasn't saying the Eureka fans behaved badly. I was only commenting on what I perceived as their unrealistic objections to officiating calls. It's easier to make that kind of observation from a neutral perspective.

Once again, my apologies for any misconceptions I created. I meant no offense to anyone.

And for what it's worth, the Eureka-Fontbonne game was better officiated than the Webster-MacMurray game. I do not blame the officials in any way for Webster's loss. Webster had plenty of opportunities to turn that game to their advantage and weren't able to. Hats off to MacMurray. They earned their victory by playing enough better than Webster to hold on for a close win.

Without any other games to compare it to, I will echo y_jack-lok's comments about the officiating of the Webster-MacMurray game. One of Mac's players had his pants ripped it two different places because of players holding on to his shorts so tightly. Another Mac player had deep scratches on both arms. Another Mac player had a golf ball size welt behind his right ear from a sharp elbow. It was a rough, tough game, and with Mac being so outsized, the physical nature of this game certainly took its toll. Mac's ability to keep the turnovers down, hit their 3 point shots, play terrific interior defense, and maintain their intensity for 40 minutes was, in my opinion, the differece.

I never, ever want to hear anyone complain about the officiating causing a win or a loss, and I have zero respect for a coach or fan who plays that card. It all evens out, and the team that is best prepared and executes its game plan for 40 minutes usually has the best chance of success. I have zero tolerence for leatherlungs - men or women - in the stands who tee off on officials. Makes me sick at my stomach. Enjoy the game and the wonderful young men and women who are playing and giving 100%. For those who have nothing better to do than criticize referees from their safe perch in the crowd, all I can say is you are embarressing yourself, the team you are supporting, and your community.

Mac Attack accurately pinpoints the factors that gave MacMurray their win. I don't have the opportunity to be around Webster players after games, so I don't know if they experienced similar bumps and bruises as the Mac players did. I do think it is a natural reaction for fans to be vocal about some officiating calls, but the key is to get over each instance and not let it build inside you until you do something you will regert. And certainly don't blame the officials for the outcome of a game.

I appologize if I went the wrong way with my post and I wasn't assuming there was a big altercation w/ your game y_jack_loc....  Just reguarding from what you said what where I was going with my question.

Again, didn't mean to cause an uproar, just question and for a conversation topic.

As for the Fan issue-

I am astonished at what happened at BC. I cant believe that someone would be so rude and ignorant of the situation. We are all outspoken fans of our own Alumni, but I have never heard of such blatent disregard of respect and decency for another organization. And I'm sure that if she would see a men's game she would have a completely different complaint on college basketball. Not saying that the Crazies do anything overly inappropriate but they dont get their name for sitting quietly on the bleachers. I apologize for such actions of a BC fan, and with all do respect "Keep it Up".

Off Topic- BC women's coach Ricky Fritch was thrown out within the first 10 minutes of play @ BC last night, the ejection came at a deadball timeout where GC's coach had a different opinoin on a call. Coach Fritch left his coaches box to speak with a player and halfway through GC's complaint coach fritch was thrown out over two Coaches box infractions. On the other hand Fritch made a huge deal out of both technical fouls!

Not sayng that this "Made" the game, If anything it made it a better game where as BC came back from a 19-2 deficit to go into halftime only down by 10 or so. I personally believe Fricth did so to get the girls fired up.

Huge win for MacMurray. Talk about stepping up and getting a big one on the road.  That is exactly what kind of win they needed.  They controled the game got down an came back in the end to make plays and win.  Before this game they believed they could be a good team,  now they know they are a good team.

RHIT led by 17 at the half, then scored with 11 seconds to win. Parker missed a shot with 2 seconds left that would have tied the game. Sounds like a great comeback by Fontbonne that just fell short. Here's their stats:

Gosh  -  four in a row at the buzzer for Fontbonne - poor FC has disappeared  -  ouch  -  hang in there FC, we're in your corner  -  assuming the box provided by Mac is correct, wonder what happened to Justin Storandt?  They're really falling short on the bench with Branch moved into starting  -  notice only one bench person scored....
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Sorry, Pride, but I don't agree. I'll bet that the Fontbonne players get a lot more out of playing tough against a respectable Rose-Hulman team and losing at the buzzer than they got out of wiping the floor with a hapless bunch of seminarians from Concordia (MO) or a Moody Bible team that is overmatched against just about any D3 team in the land.
