UNBELIEVEABLE GAME AT HJ LONG GYMNASIUM!!!

Final from Greenville, Ill

Greenville 88, MacMurray 86 (F)

That is not a typo or misprint.  Greenville d. MacMurray 88-86.  Greenville, as you saw w/ my previous post was down 19 w/ 5:00 minutes to go.  Greenville worked and chipped away and MacMurray turned the ball over.  Ill give the play by play when I can review it again.  Hate to try to remember...  What I do remember is tie ball game with 20 some odd secs to go and GC with the ball.  Simmons shoots a shot that rims in and out.  Conquest tips the GW in the goal to win.  No good shot for Mac and fans storm the floor for the 2nd time this season.  Our SID tells me GC went on a 35-13 the last 6 minutes of the game.  We were also down 13 with 1:30 to go.  It reminds me of Jason Williams at Duke.  They were down 10 with 30 secs to go and he scored 11 straight pts to go to OT and eventually win.  It wasn't and individual, but a team effort for Greenville.

Stat Rundown later!!!

Webster 62 - Eureka 57. Thank goodness hopefan lives so far away, giving me a chance to post it first. But I'll leave the stats and game analysis to him, because he's much better at that.

Congrats to Greenville, now the surprising only undefeated team in the conference.

Holy smokes fellas.  What a wacky night.  Eureka blows 12 pt lead, Mac Blows 21 pt lead.  I am wore out.  Unbelieveable stuff!

Interesting game with Webster - Eureka  Came down to a battle of the big men and though Eureka's Tarply dominated the first 25 minutes, Webster's Darin Hoggat won the battle down the stretch.  Webster behind the whole game, but kept it close enough throughout to be able to catch em  -  huge 3 pointers by Spinner to get it to two, and by Turk to put Webster ahead.  Finally Webster put their experience together to win a game down the stretch.   They need to think about coming into a game fired up  -  very slow starts, and some crucial people contributing nothing in the first half.  Hoggatt maintains his claim to best post man in the SLIAC, at least until the rematch with Eureka.  Hoggat, when fired up, bangs with the best of them - I really like his inside work...

Coach Bunch gives a lot of people time, but he has the mainstays in at make or break time

Panther - last second wins over Fontbonne, Mac, and Maryville  -  this could be a magic year for GC, but after seeing that ugly win over Maryville, I'm not quite yet a believer -  Congrats!!!

haha, that's fine hopefan.  The Greenville campus is alive with pride, PANTHER PRIDE.  Again, the crowd pull us back into the game.  Maybe the close wins aren't enough for you to call us legit...  Okay.  We'll just keep doing what we do.  Hopefully my guys... and i know you are reading!!!... don't let me down and make me eat my words at the end of the season!!!

Great night to be a Panther!

Most of the games in the SLIAC are going to be close this year. So until someone beats Greenville, they deserve the accolades for winning the close ones. It may be a cliche, but the difference between a good season, and a not so good season, and a good team and a not so good team, is winning the close ones.

Not to nitpick details, but the 3 pointer that Ryan Turk hit in the Webster-Eureka game tied it at 54. What's worth noting is that in the previous two games (against Lincoln Christian and Westminster) and tonight until with around 4 minutes to go, Turk was on about an 0 for 15 streak from 3 point land, after starting the season onfire from beyond the arc. He couldn't have picked a better time to break the streak.

The FU v. Mac game is still on. Don't know about any other.

WOW!  sounds like some good stuff going on in the league.  I lied about the Westminster games.  I didnt make it last night but I will be there today for Eureka and Westminster.  Sounds like Westminster led a pretty balanced scoring attack last night and simply handled LCC in the second half.  WC up 3 at half, pretty sloppy but switched to a zone in the second and LCC really had trouble putting the ball in the hole.  They just wanted to put it in the hole, the ball wanted to go in the hole but it just wouldn't do it.  We all know nights like this!!!  Tough game today.  Oh btw check out this website from a Westminster game, good move by point man Scott Dygert!

Games still on in Greenville.  Illinois State Police say the rain is beginning to fall again.  Overpasses are freezing and there is alot of water around.  Please take caution when traveling today!

well, I/m stuck at home with family duties (had to pick up my wife from work because of the threatening weather) and the lure of that other D3 game (Hope-Calvin) on TV   -   exciting result already from FC - not a surprise to me.   Now, if LCC were to upset Greenville - THAT would be a surprise  -  Panther, what's happening in Greenville?  -  and of course, the results at Webster and Westminster are crucial too  -- anxious to hear

well, just checking some sites, I see that Webster loses by one to Blackburn  - looking for a report from Yjak  -  two wins this weekend puts Blackburn back into tourney contention, and this loss is NOT what Webster needed  -  can't imagine how Webster didn't win it with a strong inside game, but lack of intensity, which showed up even in their win over Eureka can be a killer.

Also note that Prin - MU postponed.
