Forgot about the ODAC and the Salem Civic Center, but I didn't know that the SCAC and USA South also had neutral-site tourneys.

You don't see the term red shirt freshmen at the D3 level (maybe WIAC).

Not at all, since the process was outlawed in D-III more than two years ago.

Yeah, as I posted about an hour ago. ;)

I noticed after I made my post. However, it's not clear fcnews read that far into your post (he didn't acknowledge his error) so I left my post up rather than delete it.

I understand. I never assume that everyone will wade their way through any of my posts -- even when I keep them under five grafs. :D

I didn't read thru all the posts yet - but there is no question that the SCAC has their tourney every year - for at least the last 5 or 6 years, at Rhodes in Memphis - probably as it approaches the geographic center of a very widespread conference.   We had very good family friends whose daughter played for Trinity, so we went each year.

It most certainly was not based on facility - the gym is somewhat historic, and would remind SLIAC fans of Greenville or Webster's gym as far as seating.   It is connected to the Student Union, which made for nice snacks between games.  Attendance was minimal - seemingly little more than families.

Blackburn SID  -  what's your impression of Howard?   He's had some big number games, but as witnessed with the Westmin game stats, at other times he hardly shows up?   What do you think?

Hopefan - Howard has stepped up his game tremendously this year. He has become a great shooter this year and been more consistent then ever before. He has tended to have a few off-games but most players do. Remember, he is only a Sophomore so he is still developing into the system. BC has other players though who step up their game to make up for others.
I think we are gonna be making some noise into last stretch of the season.
Zeb Hammond and Zak Allen have done a great job being to big leaders on the floor this year...I will tell you one thing and that is this is a very unselfish team.
One more thing, Business Statistics SUCKS!
Go Beavers!

FCnews thanks for breaking things down. Thanks to all the posters for their insightful posts this year. I gotta beleive FCnews is very confident in the Griffins. To the remaining posters, is it feasible to think that a team as young as FU can actually win thier way into the post season. Or, are they gonna need a lot of help. I don't want to get my hopes up to soon. So for, other then FCnews, I haven't seen much posted giving them a chance.

Mac Attack

If Fontbonne plays like they did against MacMurray on 1/13, they're the #1 seed.

ballhog  -  if I were gutsy enough to turn the current 7 team race into a 5 team race, by eliminating Westminster and Blackburn, Fontbonne would still be in my playoff possible group.

The Griffs have several problems, as do each of the contenders..
1) Depth - they have played without Cartez Parker using only a 6 man rotation - No contending team is that short on the bench, and the SLIAC has become a small pressing league - Fontbonne is going to run out of gas in some games  -  now FCnews has made us aware of a couple new bodies on the bench that have torn it up in JV games - but until they show they can do it on the varsity level, I'm pessimistic.

2) the point  -  McKoy - in tight games, you have to have a reliable steady hand with a good head.   Hey if we're down 15 with 10 to go, I want McKoy in there, creating, taking shots, making things happen.  BUT, when there's 3 minutes left and it's a 1 point game - egads - get him out of there!

3)Team Defense  - here's where a lack of experience shows - take out concordia and Prin from their games to date and they're giving up near 80 points per game - and they have to be careful, because playing just 6 guys, you don't want to be in foul trouble!  80 is too much.

On the other hand, 6 very talented players, very good shooters, Fournie great off the bench  --it's feasible the talent alone CAN get them there -  Can't afford to have Branch have games like he did vs Webster, and Point guard performance is crucial.

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm still trying to learn when to take off the blinders and when to just jump on the bandwagon.

Don't color me to confident Ballhog. I'm trying to look at it as rational as possible. If anyone wants a sneak peak at the two new members of the Griffin Nation. FU hosts MU in a JV match up tonite. Both players will see alot of minutes. They need them to get in better game shape.

Mac Attack

Even though the SLIAC website conference stats are still missing three of MacMurray's games (Huntingdon, LaGrange, & Rockford), where the Highlanders played very well (won 2 of 3), there's some interesting stats:

Despite MacMurray's lack of size, they lead the conference in rebounding (by nearly 8 a game better than the next team), rebounding margin (by a lot), and blocked shots. Go figure. MacMurray also leads the league in steals, assists, 3 Pt FG, and points per game. Add in the three missing games and I would think these numbers would be even higher.

The Highlanders have already matched last year's win total (9), conference wins (7), and are on schedule for their first winning season in five years. Three years ago, MacMurray lost its first 15 games. The Highlanders have come a long way. Good job, Highlanders - and congratulations to Coach Steve Hettinga for the wonderful job he's done with these young men.

Hope - McCoy ( spelled with 2 C's ) in the two victories last week averaged 5 pts., 9 assists, 3.5 rebs. and only 1.5 to's. The kid is really try to accept the role and the responsibilty of the postion.
