MacAttack: I agree there are other facets of the game which merit review in the determination of these awards.  The issue I was raising was concerning your statement about points and rebounds and Robertsons consideration, Hoggatt dominates those catagories and I have a hard time believing he is not a 1st team all conference selection.  Also we can just about throw out the missing games from the mac stats, seems like the majority of the missing games are non-conference(save the webster game), and therefor play as a non-factor when viewing the conference only stats (which should be used).

and Bunchtime: if you disagree with me again I might stop posting.  :'(

Daryl - I should have mentioned Robertson's defense and his all around play. My mistake. I'm not quite sure that Hoggatt dominates scoring and rebounding. There are several players with equal or better numbers. I would consider a player's entire body of work - conference and non-conference games - if I was casting an all conference ballot. One man's opinion.

With 7:50 left in first half, Mac leads LCC 26-18. Robertson has ten points. LCC went on a 12-0 run to grab a four point lead, but Mac is looking much better.

Any other updates out there?

Best Game Ive seen tis season thus far.

Mac Attack

MacMurray 44
LCC 35
Half-Time

Mac
Robertson 10 points
Greene 10 points
Coleman 10 points

Tyler Smith has 10 points for LCC. Everett has been shut out. Coleman and Whalum are really getting after him.

The Preachers are playing hard and giving MacMurray fits. Mac had a couple of 11 point leads and looked like they might blow them out, but LCC keeps clawing their way back in. Hard to believe LCC hasn't won more games.

Great Game Ill get stats on here after the womens game

Best Game All Year!!!

Mac Attack

MacMurray 90
LCC 70
Final

Mac just wore them down. Robertson was too athletic, Compton hit some early second half shots, Greene made some some nice steals and passes, and Colemanand Whalum really played well in the second half. Everett got some points in the second half, but not many. Dan Black played well for the Preachers, as did Slykmeyer (sp?). LCC hung in there. Scrappy bunch. Mac moves to 8-3 in the SLIAC. Next up - Principia.

Looks like Blackburn is going to give everyone there money's worth down the stretch. Nice win for Eureka. They needed that one and they got it.

Mac Attack: So as to not steer this conversation back to a strength of schedule debate I will agree to disagree on the using conference only stats to determine all conference selections (seemed like a no brainer to me, but everyone is entitled to thier own opinion).  Whether or not Darrin dominates the offensive catagories is really just a matter of how you define dominate I guess. I would call a guy leading the conference in scoring (against exact competition - within conference) and 7th in rebounding fairly dominate, thats without mentioning his shooting percentage or the adjustments defense make to try (without much success) to contain him.  Enough of this talk, he can continue to avg 20 and 7 and Im sure webster will be happy with his output.

Im interested to see how tonights match ups turned out.

Mac Attack

I'll take a guy who averages 15 ppg, 7 boards, plays lights out defense, and gives a 94 foot effort every night over 20 and 7. I'll find the other five points someplace else. In a perfect world, I'd love to have both of them. But I'll always take the player with the more complete game.

Good point on the strength of schedule and its impact on a player's stats. But I don't think a player should be penalized for the numbers he puts up or doesn't put up based on the competition.

Eureka gets a big win tonight. So does Webster. So Does Fontbonne. Looks like Greenville and Blackburn are close to assuming the role of spoilers. Both are still very dangerous.

I've figured all along it would take 12 wins to make the tournament. Unless the bottom falls out, MacMurray could pick up number nine Thursday night. That would mean they would have to win three of their last six. Those six are at Westminster, and then three big home games in a row - Eureka, Greenville, and Fontbonne. Then finish at Blackburn and home against Maryville. Mac will need to win three of those games to make it to the post season.

Eureka and Webster are in. Fontbonne appears to be ready to seal the deal as well. Westminster is close. So is MacMurray. But heavy lifting is still ahead for all of these teams. Mac's game at Westminster is big - but it's just one of the six they will have left after Thursday's game at Principia. Need to take them one at a time.

One more stat - tonight's MacMurray win was their 10th win of the season, which is one more than they won all of last season, and the season before that. Congratulations to Coach Hettinga and the Highlanders!

Daryl...you seem right on with your analysis!  I too agree (and I believe they do) that coaches largely determine their own selections for conference awards on conference only stats.  It is likely the only exposure, excluding game films, players have to showcase themselves to other SLIAC coaches and that is why this is typically (conference-only stats) what coaches use to determine awards.  Thus, Hoggat is a viable candidate for POY.  My only contention is that statistics do not always compel a coach to vote a certain way.  History indicates that SLIAC coaches have often voted players with above average stats in most offensive and defensive categories, but it is not always the leading scorer.  Leadership, in my opinion, is also another quality that helps sway votes and this is why Spinner would be my prediction should they win.  Hoggat would be hampered by his lack of minutes and overall leadership on the team!  But you have a strong case and it will be interesting to see.  Lots of ball left!

I haven't seen a MU/WU score posting yet!  Does anyone have this available yet?
