February Frenzy Fun Fact of the Day:

WU will be competing in their 10th tourney with a over all tourney record of 4-10

FU and MC are in their 9th, both are 13-7 in tourney play.

EC has a chance to represent the SLIAC in the NCAA tourney in their first year.

FU and MC both have two Tournament Championships and WU will be looking for their first.

Tarpley from Eureka - Player of the Year

He had a real nice year, but probably should have been shared with Hoggatt. Robertson and Whalum get second team, and Coleman honorable mention. Greene was very deserving too, but only so many players from one team can finish in the top 15 (although last year's second team had six players). Kind of a head scratcher that no one from MacMurray was 1st team. With a 14-4 record and co-champs, they must have been doing something right. But the Highlanders don't really have a "star." Just a bunch of kids who work hard, play well together, and are extremely well coached.

If Hettinga isn't Coach of the Year, they should retire the award. I know I'm biased, but who exceeded expectations more than MacMurray this year.

See you tomorrow night.

Just another quick note to alert everyone that both games will be broadcast tomorrow by our campus radio station.  The link is:

i Tunes or Real Player are your best bet.

If anyone has info on either team in the first game, I know the announcers are gathering info on Mac and Eureka as we speak.  See you all tomorrow.

That info was not released for public eyes as of my conversation with the Commish at tonites women's tourney. I understood that it would be announced on Saturday night. Someone didn't follow correct protocol.

See ya tommorrow nite Mac Attack.

FU_Pride

well after watching the FU ladies fall tonight I can only hope the outcome is better for the Men's Griffins team.  It is really bugging me that I will not be able to attend.  I think that it will be a close contest between FU and Webster, with FU prevailing late for a 6 point victory 85-79.  I think Eureka will defeat Mac with their size inside.  Then I look for FU to avenge their two losses to Eureka in the chamionship game on Saturday!  Go Griffins!

EC - I'm sorry to hear that EC is not coming in for the weekend. Win or lose it's a great reward for a battle well fought and the players should stay and experience the Championship enviroment. Maybe, I have been tought differently but this is a great chance for personal life learning experiences. Shoot the event is being hosted right near historic Forrest Park. I beleive it is the largest metropolitan green space in the country. Home of both the 1904 World's Fair and Olympics. The only time the two were hosted togheter, Ever. Part of the Olympics was held at Wash U. track. Fontbonne University sits on World's Fair grounds donated to the Sisters after the fair. If nothing else you have the St' Louis Zoo. The largest free zoo in the world. A tour of the stadium and hall of fame. If nothing else the National Bowling Hall of Fame!!!

I've made that trip on a bus to EC and back. Not fun. I would of expected EC to check in some where early in the afternoon. Give the kids a chance to get comfortable, get a meal, get ready for their biggest game of the year. EC has quite a few seniors that deserve it. If you lose check out Saturday morning and find something to do. Then go to the Championship game. Let a possible All Tournament Player recieve his reward. And I beleive the All - Conference awards are also Saturday night.

I know that I am rattling on. But, this is why the kids are paying their own way to any given Univ. A chance to have a great season and be rewarded.

EC_SID - I'd be happy to offer you a shuttle to the party and back if transportation is a problem. Tell the fans coming in to stop by. Cheap dinner. A chance to kill sometime before we all head to games.

FC, We're doing the best we can here, my man. I don't get to see the numbers directly, but by this point of the season, I'm sure the men's basketball budget numbers are getting stretched pretty thin. Heck, they've had their SID mooching meals off them all season.  ;D Not every team can afford to take Chrsitmas trips to spend time on the beach in Tampa or fall tours to Europe. I don't think it's any secret that there is a wide range of spending on athletics not only with D3 as a whole, but in this conference as well.  I understand everyone is paying to go to Eureka, but so are biology and math students. Who knows, maybe the extra motivation to be able to spend an extra day away from Eureka will be the difference between a win and a loss...or maybe I fell victim to a bout with "coachspeak."  ;)

The reason for the somewhat late arrival is classes. I believe Noon was the absolute earliest everyone could leave for the day. Ideally, the team would get down there much earlier, but maybe it will pay off to treat this like a normal game.

Thanks for the offer, but I'll probably be able to talk myself into a ride before the game (am I naive thinking that I'll be able to score a fish sandwich of some kind at this place?). Otherwise, I'll meet up with everyone at the game. It sounds like EC will have a larger than expected (at least by me) contengent traveling the 3+ hours to the game. There seemed to be some dicey moments in the crowd during the game at Mac earlier this month. Hopefully everyone is on their best behavior.

Eureka is the only school among the four that has never been in the D3 tourney. I was going to root for the Red Devils anyway, since a Eureka win adds a bit of luster to NPU's season, but after discovering that Eureka's never tasted March Madness I'm doubly hoping for the Red Devils to win the SLIAC bid and lose their D3 tourney virginity. ;D

Yes, the all-conference selections were supposed to be a secret until after the championship game. I was planning on freakishly pegging each and every all-conference selection with a stunningly pristine prediction at halftime of the title game, but sadly, it appears I'm not the only person that already knows the results.  ;D

By the way, I also have been informed who is going to win this year's SLIAC tournament, the 2007 World Series, and the winning couple of the ice dancing competition of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Of course, I could tell everyone, but then I'd have to kill you.

Thanks for the support, Sager. Unfortunately, now that you have made it known you are cheering for us, there will be certain posters on this board now vehemently cheering against us. The team has obviously come a long way since tanking that 19 point lead against your Vikings earlier this year!

Yeah, I have to admit that the same thought occurred to me. My apologies. :D

ok  hopefan's predictions

We've overlooked a major item coming into the tourney  -  How is Mac's Robertson????  Remember, he will have been out for close to two weeks.  His rebounding and quickness inside is essential for Mac - without him, Mac's game becomes very perimeter, just not enough inside strength to play with Eureka.  With him, I think Mac is the favorite in game one.   In game two, Fontbonne has so much to overcome - White and Fogerty were virtually a two man team against Maryville - Font's guard play was again not what they need it to be - And their bench play failed to measure up to the level we had been seeing recently. Unless Branch and McCoy come through in a big way, it's hard to see Fontbonne staying with Webster for 40 minutes.
If Robertson plays and Mac beats Eureka, and Webster beats Font, setting up a Mac - Webster final, I go with the underdog, Mac to become the SLIAC rep in the NCAA's - they are the one team that seems to be peaking now, despite their 1 point win over Blackburn, without Robertson.  I just like the guard play and quickness inside of Mac if they have Robertson.
If Robertson can't play and Eureka wins game 1, I think Webster has to be the favorite in the championship game.

All the games should be close - really pumped for a great weekend of hoops.   If you're attending, yell for the kids, cheer for your favorite teams, don't worry about the refs - the Fontbonne Maryville game was again a bad scene -  it really takes away from a great atmosphere.

hopefan - Robertson is ready to go.

It was my understanding the names of the conference award winners were released last night. As this doesn't appear to be the case, I apologize for not following protocal. Congratulations to everyone who was honored, and we all know there were many deserving kids who won't be recognized as all conference but could have been. I just hope the kids who were selected were full court contributors who did a number of things well. Wish they picked a 6th man award and a Defensive POY. Maybe next year.

EC - Every trip FU athletic teams take are paid solely by the athlete's. FU atletes do not recieve anything different then their fellow students do. FU athletic dept., coaches and families do one heck of a job in fundraising. Not one penny comes from the Huge financial coffers  ???of the college. The kids paid for their Tampa trip and a will pay for their trip to Europe and Cali. trip next year.

And this is for every sport. Boy, their is something to be said for being the under dog. I like are chances more, since Hope has picked WU.

FC   --  Why else would I pick Webster????  This weekend will be just a lot of fun...
