Thanks to all the SLIAC fans at the game tonite. Sorry we couldn't get the job done. It wasn't cause of lack of effort. Down 22 and cut it to 7 w ith the ball and simply run out of gas. I'm sure Sager will be on here talking about my purple colore glasses. But, you no what Sager Fontbonne made as far as any CCIW team. That's not a slap at the League, just the poster.

I beleived in these Kids right up to the end. And hey we got this team together for a while. Great Atmosphere. Huge Crowd. Two Great games.

It was a pleasure to get to know my fellow SLIAC posters better this year. Shout out to Pride for making the trip down. Yjak it was a pleasure meeting you and your lovely wife. Hope you already know how much I respect you.

Good Luck to the Bears. Now go out and finish.

fcnews is right.  Fontbonne busted tail tonight.  They took what Wash U. had to offer and kept playing.  Fontbonne has Yjac, Mrs. Yjac, hopefan, and I standing and cheering among the Wash U faithful.  Every kid played until the final horn and did a great job.  Great season for SLIAC ball.  Now, my ladies need to take care of business at the NCCAA's.

Also piggybacking on fcnews again, it has been great getting to know all the d3 posters.  I really got to know fcnews through Greenville ties and it's really been a pleasure.  Hope, great sitting with you, YJack, & mrs. YJack tonight during the game.

And finally, yes I am prepping for my radio debut.  It's not 100% final that I will do it, but we are getting close.  I'll keep you posted.  WGRN 89.5 FM or www.wgrn.net .  Should be fun for Greenville at the NCCAA's.  This is the ladies 3rd trip in 7 years.  Coach Mo is a great coach and the ladies respond to him well.  Hoping to the the second win for Greenville Athletics at the NCCAA National Tournament: Men BB: 0-3, Women's BB: 0-6, Softball: 0-2, Baseball: 1-6.

Great to be at the game with the SLIAC faithful. Kudos to Fontbonne for playing hard all 40 minutes and giving us reason to hope late in the 2nd half, if only momentarily. Tomorrow night we will be Wash U fans. I hope Wash U comes out and puts points on the board quick, gets a big lead, and forces Whitworth out of their zone, which was the cause of the most boring basketball game I have seen all season. Neither team deserved to win that first game and both should have been sent home tonight so the Wash U -Fontbonne game could be played tomorrow night for the right to move on in the tournament.

What was really cool last night was the contrast between the two games  -  the first game between Depauw and Whitworth were two teams playing zone, neither team having a go to guy in the middle or guards that could penetrate to the basket - so much of the offense was work the ball around the perimeter until the shot clock wore down, then fire up a bad 3 point attempt.  It was D3 hoops at its worst, no running, no to the basket, no contact, no scrap; it was just AWFUL.   This is not to say that either team couldn't play a different type of game, but it was the one both coaches chose to play, and from a spectator view, it was horrible.  To add to that, there probably weren't 100 people in the stands - surprising few Depauw supporters - I've never been a Fenlon fan for personal reasons - good to see him lose -

Contrast that to a huge crowd by St Louis standards that arrived for the local game, colorful competition between the fans, and hard play on the court  -  Fontbonne added to the excitement by making a comeback in the 2nd half, Troy ruths made another pitch for All American status by taking control the last 4 minutes.  One play in particular  with about 6 minutes left had 5 or 6 players on the floor scrambling for the ball -  I'm not one to sugar coat losses, and I won't for this one - Wash U was better individually at every spot, but the fontbonne kids played so darned hard that they made a game of it, and this was recognized by the whole crowd  -  no loser in that 2nd game last night.  A 20 point game was so much more entertaining than the OT first game - no comparison.

What a beautiful morning here in Clayton. Hope your right no suger coating. The most talented team by far won. But, deep down in places we keep safe I know all FU Fans thought a just a moment. After cutting it to 7 and the ball (65-58) FU did not score last 4:58 of the game. Margin of victory.

Wallis was much taller then he looked on film. May end up being one of Wash U.'s best in the next 2 years. Troy Ruths is all that's advertised. Nadding is one heck of a defender and can score in many ways. They had 3 players we wanted to shoot the ball from the perimeter. They did and they made everything.

FU's MO all year is we have to shoot well to win. This team won some games down the stretch when we didn't shoot well. But not against a Wash U.

McCoy showed a whole lot of poise last nite, for a game of this stature. Branch showed he's more then a set shooter. Storandt was Sorandt. Fogerty was out early with 2 fouls. Playing on worn wheels, he hit some big jumpers during the second half. White got shut down by Wash U. but contributed with rebounding and some great defense. Lovette earned some valuble experience that he will bring to next years team. Stat of the night : FU only attempted 14 3's (12 under season average). Maturity showed in the SLIAC tourney and last nite. They found other ways to score.

I'll see you guys there tonite. I'll also be a Wash U. fan.

Take that king-sized chip off your shoulder and give the personal nastiness a rest, FCNews. I'm perfectly willing and able to give Fontbonne credit for a strong game last night and for a performance that did their league proud.

Wowzers, i feel a little tension now coming for the comedic mouth of Sager.  Interesting!!

Wash U. hung on tonight.  I didn't attend the game but listened back and forth to Wash U & Wittworth radio.  Free Throws killed Wittworth and almost bit Wash U.

Good job the the Bears in the Sweet 16.

Pride -- Hopefan, fcnews and I were there. Actually, it was free throws that won it for Wash U (20 of 28 versus 7 of 13 for Whitworth). Wash U was 19 of 56 from the field and 5 of 27 beyond the arc. They missed close in shots and open 3s that we are used to seeing them make. If it weren't for that the game would not have been so close. Whitworth's defense was only partially responsible for some of the misses. Just glad Wash U gets to keep playing. They play Carroll College next, which has pulled two upsets to get to the Sweet 16.

Y jak   -  not used to you erring   -  Wash U plays top seed Stevens Point,  that school from Michigan gets Carroll   ::) ::)

Incidently, while not formally announced, D3 pundits in another room have a pretty realistic source that indeed says the foursome will be hosted at Stevens Point, a quick 7 hour trip from St Louis, well maybe 8 or 9?

I'm thinking of going  -  any other D3 nuts from the area interested? Come on Coach Rogers, Coach Bunch!!

My mistake,  hopefan. There must have been something in that postgame Cranberry Chocolate Tort that messed with my mind, or the late hour of my post, or, more likely, just not paying close enough attention. Thanks for the correction.

You know that were it not for my son's coming home for Spring Break next Saturday, I might be on board for that trip to Steven's Point. Hope you find some takers.

Ok Guys. Which stat suprises you on the attendance figure. Wash U v. Chicago(1997), Wash U. Friday(1524), Wash U. Sat.(833) or SLIAC Semi's(450) ?

Wowzers, i feel a little tension now coming for the comedic mouth of Sager.  Interesting!!

No tension here at all, Pantherpride ... just a little annoyance at the thin-skinnedness of the two of you.

This room, and all the others like it on Posting Up, are supposed to be about discussing something we all love: Division Three basketball. It's about civilized discussion, using facts and supporting your opinions as best as possible with facts. Disagreement is inevitable. Holding grudges and taking things personally ... well, that's not a part of what this is supposed to be about.

I am not the enemy. I have said several times in here that I am rooting for the SLIAC to improve, because: a) its member schools are the underdogs both institutionally and programmatically, even by D3 standards; and b) in terms of the "rising tide lifts all boats" aphorism, I believe that a stronger SLIAC would mean a stronger Midwest Region as a whole.

I understand just as well as do either of the two of you what it's like to have my favorite team and/or conference looked down upon. NPU's basketball program has been in the crapper more often than not over the past dozen years, and even when the Vikings were not atrocious over that time span they never transcended mediocrity. I've had to grit my teeth and bear all sorts of derision aimed at my alma mater's team by outsiders over those dozen years. Why? Because most of it was true. Lashing out at the person doing the deriding wasn't going to change that. It would only make me look defensive and leave me grasping at straws; better to recognize that some things are simply better accepted with an even temperament, and that my honor and sense of self-worth isn't wrapped up in my alma mater's basketball team. Life's a lot bigger than that.

So you don't agree with me about Greenville's scheduling policy. Big deal. Let it go. So FCnews disagrees with my assessment that Wash U didn't view Fontbonne as one of the worst first-round pairings that the Bears could've received. So what? Let it go. It's possible to disagree with someone without having to carry it around with you like a toothache, you know. I disagree with other Posting Up regulars all the time without it getting personal. Heck, I carried on an argument with Pat Coleman for three days on Posting Up last week about Elmhurst. That didn't mean that I had to get mad at Pat, or that Pat had to get mad at me ... and we didn't. It doesn't have to be such a personal crisis to disagree with someone. You make your point, you counter the other guy's point, you move on. You don't let it fester, and you don't let it get personal.

Let it go already, Pantherpride.

I wasn't at any of the Wash U games, but I would be interested to know what the capacity of Webster's gym is. There didn't appear to by many empty seats for the 2nd semifinal and 450 seems a tad low to me. I was at the SLIAC women's title game at Maryville (attendance listed at 803) earlier in the day Saturday and although there was certainly more people at the women's game than the men's, I don't think there was a difference of 350.

BunchTime

Well said Sager!!  I couldn't agree more!  Heck, I know you are a beloved D3 hoops guys and are rooting for the SLIAC to do well!  That is what these boards are all about; to discuss relevant issue of D3 hoops!

FC, I know it was tough for you on Saturday night but you have to be holding your head up after that game!  There is a lot of promise in those young Griffins!
