Under rated 15

I googled Seth Whalum and it brings up a box score and play by play that indicates Seth Whalum played in the 2003-04 season -  The game that came up was Mac vs Illinois College on Dec 5, 2003   -  Strangely Seth's name is not in the box score of that game, but it is in the play by play as having committed a foul.

I'm not on a witch  hunt here - I met Seth this season and we had a very pleasant chat - but I would not want to see Mac or Seth be penalized if he played in 2007-08 when no longer eligible.

Perhaps Mac Attack could shed some light on the subject?

Reading between the lines. It sounds like Seth was a semester academic loss. If so he would still have one semester left.

Hopefan do you do P.I. work also. LOL I never would of thought of that.

That is not a suprise to me. Hopefan, I mentioned the possibilities at the tourney. That's a shame, but I can't blame him. I would guess Coleman will follow.

WOW    Bombshell on Hettinga  -  come on Mac Attack  -  what's going on?

Underrated -  the box score is official  12/5/03  Mac @ Illinois College
IC  78   Mac 71     As I mentioned, the strange thing is while Whalum's name appears in the play by play, it does not appear in the box score   -  that leaves room for conjecture that someone put a wrong name in the play by play  -  It's something that Seth should get checked out if he hopes to play - if I can find it, you can bet others can too, and that name in the play by play could be meaningful to the ultra sensitive NCAA....

Back to Hettinga- I feel very disappointed - he was the calibre of coach that could really improve the league - and he had access to some good players.  Believe me, the campus he had been at, Olivet, was no vast step ahead of MacMurray, though the MIAA with Hope and Calvin gets more ink and recognition than the SLIAC.  But who can blame anyone for leaving the situation we witnessed at Mac this past season with no SID, no scores or info published, a campus that closes on weekends....   I really wonder if some of the players will bail out...?

Simply a mistake in the box score on whallum things will get cleared up.

Hettinga took a D2 job back home in Michigan at Lake Superior State. You really have to fell sorry for players like Compton,Long, and Robertson who have had the tail end of coaches during their collegiate career. They just cant up and leave college and transfer becuase their credits will not transfer and it will take them longer to graduate. Should coaches be locked into contracts for the players sake?

Interesting that the 2 D2 jobs that came open in Michigan were both filled by D3 guys.   Hillsdale--Tharpe,  LSSU---Hettinga........unusual.

LSSU is tough gig, every road trip is 4 hours minimum, maybe Marquette (NMU) is 3, out of state I bet the shortest trip to a D2 is 8 hours.  He has no metro areas within 5 hours to recruit, his chief competition for UP kids is MTU and NMU both with better facilities and histories.

The school is a hard sell period, I mean come on.......its Sault Ste. Marie.

Should add that LSSU has made no announcement on a new coach publicly.  Also the new guy will inherit 6 to be Sophs and 7 to Jr's.

Actually, no, the scorebook is official. The box score is secondary to the scorebook.

wait, I'm sorry, Pat took me a little too much at my word  - I did not mean that the box score is "Official"  or that the play by play is "official"- I meant, that I double checked the Google and the date was December 2003, Whalum was not in the box score, but was in the play by play that follows the box score.  It is "official" only that I double checked and it "officially" shows his name  in the play by play   (I printed it out just in case it somehow disappears).   I obviously don't have access to the scorebook, which as Pat says, is the REAL "official" record of the game.

I'm still saying that the play by play indicates he was in the game - in 2003.  I'm not in any way dictating that it is official and end all  -  as I said before, it is simply something to be concerned about and get cleared up, sooner better than later, if Seth is planning on returning next year.

And All my SLIAC friends,  if you haven't been WAY north,  WAY WAY north, you have no idea what Coach Hettinga is getting into.  Imagine the coldest snowiest day you've seen in St Louis  - now imagine it 10 degrees colder, 20 mph winds, and a foot and a half of snow  -  every day mid October thru mid March  -  it's the end of the Geographic NCAA world.  And oh by the way - the only people who go to the basketball games are those who can't get tickets for the hockey games.

Well chances are pretty good that considering Mac's current condition finding a score book from 03-04 may be as tough as finding an unlock door on campus on the weekend.

A similar case is going on now with SLIAC golf. Last years Conference Medalist is from FU. He is a fifth year senior who attended Belhaven College his freshmen year. FU has a letter from Belhaven's compliance officer and A.D. stating the kid did not compete for them in his one year their. Another SLIAC coach found his name listed in scores on Golfstat, com for that year. Even with the above mentioned documentation, FU his not allowing the kid to compete this season till it's resolved through the Commishes office.

With Coach Hettinga I think Mac overachieved last year because of his ability to get the most out of what he had to work with. This would make me beleive, depending on who they hire, that Mac will slide down a couple notches next year.

I suspect Hettinga is betting that our government will continue to drag its feet on the problem of global warming and that the northern Michigan winters will be milder than hopefan describes.

From Hopefan's description you have to think he wanted out of Jacksonville pretty bad. That's two coaches down and we haven't heard anything out of Beaver_SID. I thought that would be the first one to open. Who's next.

Hope - You better update that resume.

I wanted to comment on last nights Florida accomplishment. Love them or hate them, no one can say that Florida is the best example of "Team Basketball" I've seen in quite awhile. All five average in double figures and you can tell that winning comes before stats. Greg Oden's spectacular performance shows you that one guy can't beat you. I thought it was a great game to watch. Plus, it was the best officiated of the Final Four.

Mr. Ypsi

Agreed.  Toss in Conley, too, and OSU was trying to win 2 on 5 - just doesn't work!

I was disappointed that they obviously felt that the MOP just HAD to be from the winning team - the CLEAR choice was Oden.  Midway through the second half, he had single-handedly outscored and outrebounded the entire Gator front line, and kept Noah on the bench with foul trouble (and fouled out Michael).  It was hardly his fault that his teammates went 2 of 20 from beyond the arc for the first 39 minutes!

fcnews

Mr. Ypsi - I think it's the age old problem of seperating MOP from MVP. Greg Oden had a unhuman like performance in the Championship game, but he only played what 18 mins. (thanks ref's) in the semi's. It is given to the MOP of the Final Four. Brewer did have two outstanding games at both ends of the floor. You really could have given it to any of three Gators.

The single most oustanding performance of the tourney was Oden last night.

OK, I'm curious.  This board always seems to be the most consistently active one on the site, even though the conference doesn't get a lot of mention (outside of jokes).  Since it is the closest conference to my geographical location, I thought I'd check it out.

Besides, I need something to do this summer and if you all are here, I might as well be too.
