Mac   -  end of story, but not the whole story   -  just the side you want to tell...?

FU only loss to two teams twice WU and EC. Beat the same two teams in SLIAC tourney. FU returns all five starters and the whole bench. Is Mac Attack trying to convince us or himself. I understand he has whole lot invested in the program. For the kids sake I'm pulling for them. If there is no AD, Head Coach or SID on staff who took of paper work with NCAA on Whalen. This situation brings back memories of Old Tarkio College in Missouri.

Pat Coleman

Whalen's work may already have done. In addition, eligibility cases are primarily handled at the conference level, no?

Mac Attack II -- no offense, but you have to prove your credibility a little first.

I know for a fact that no eligibility issues have been addressed by the conference, Underrated_15 origonally stated he thought Seth would get a year back. That statement sounds to me like there was some question. If he did not play as a freshmen then there is no reason to try and get anything back.

Your right Pat. The conference handles these situations, as well as injury hardships. If I'm not mistaken the NCAA does not have a clearing house like DI.

Is Mac Attack II the same person as Mac Attack.

Mr. Ypsi

I know nothing of the facts of the situation (only what I've read here), but if he was ON the team as a freshman, it really doesn't matter whether or not he played (unless prevented by injury), since 'redshirting' is no longer permitted in d3.  The question in terms of eligibility is not whether or not he appeared in games, but did he practice with the team?

hopefan

Ypsi   -  very interesting  -  I wasn't aware of that facet of eligibility

My assumption is that Mac Attack II is same person as Mac Attack  -  if so, he has credibility, though is known to be rather subjective towards Mac with his thoughts.

Wish the commish was still in office - perhaps he would be familiar with the situation and chime in.

Mr. Ypsi - Is correct. Same as an individual playing a year of JV. Participation is just that. If he started the season with the team and did not leave due to injury it would be a year.

Will the real MacAttack please stand up? Just kidding. His earlier post on Page 196 says he had trouble with his password, so I'm guessing he added the "II" to his name and chose a  new password. I had the same problem once, which is why I went from yjacklok to y_jack_lok.

Eureka SID, thanks for the insights on the football issue. It just strikes me that a co-ed school with an enrollment of 550-700 and presumably a 50-50 male/female ratio has a tough job fielding a competitive team. But if kids go there because they want to play football, then that'a a good thing and they deserve the opportunity.

Nice to have you back Mac Attack. Reading your posts makes me feel like I really know the Mac players and program, even if I only get to see them once a year.

What year was the year in question again? If it was before 2004-05, then the new redshirt restrictions to not apply.

I suspect Hettinga is betting that our government will continue to drag its feet on the problem of global warming and that the northern Michigan winters will be milder than hopefan describes.
hahahaha....

While that is a funny joke, I hate that Al Gore decided to use the popular term "Global Warming"... it just makes the issue simpler than it is.

So I'll I stick that all too often stated reminder that the correct term is "Global Climate Change" and that it characterized by unpredictable severe weather... So, northern Michigan could get warmer, or it could get much, much, colder and snowier... ouch. :P

Wait, dunks are only worth two points?!?!!!? Why does anyone do them? - diehardfan

Pat, good catch!  I wasn't clear on the specifics of the prohibition.  If there is a question concerning his 2007-08 eligibility, then I would assume the year in question is 2003-04.  But whether or not the SLIAC ever allowed redshirting by conference rule, I do not know.

Mac Attack II

Not real sure what "Is Mac Attack trying to convince us or himself" is supposed to mean. The only point I was trying to make is MacMurray will have five starters and their first two players off the bench back from a team that had its best record in 15 years and tied for the league championship. The school will hire a new president, athletic director, and men's basketball coach. Based on the people that have been hired in the recent past, I believe the school will bring in quality people to fill those positions. Not trying to convince anyone, including myself, of anything different. And I do believe this is an excellent opportunity for a young coach to come in and make his mark. Not a rebuilding project. There are new players on campus, ready to go. And other recruits have committed. I talked to Seth Whalum yesterday - and he told me he had just come from the athletics office where he had been told the NCAA had cleared him to play another year. Make of that what you will. I'm not sure if that permits me to pass Pat's credibility test or not. It's what I was told by the player. If for whatever reason he was given bad information or there's another turn in this saga, I'll let you know. But as of yesterday afternoon, according to the player, he is eligible for the 2007-2008 season. And he can't wait.

Mac Attack II is the same as Mac Attack. I had to add the "II" to create a new account after my old name and password didn't work.

Mr. Ypsi

Mac Attack,

I don't know if you ever check out the fball board, but there is a scathing post by a Mac senior on the IBC board.  IF his allegations are correct, he has good reason to be disgruntled (on the other hand, he has karma of -16 after only 12 posts, so I have no idea as to his credibility).  The discussion here (and there) has raised an ominous thought in my mind - is the college itself in any danger of financial collapse?  I sincerely hope not!  I spent many enjoyable weeks as a kid (MANY years ago) at Epworth Springs, where many of the counselors were Mac students - I've got rather a soft spot for you guys!  But with such a massive exodus, and apparently severe budget cuts, should I be worried?

Regarding Seth, IF he practiced with the team in 2003-04 (even if he didn't play), he'd be eligible this year only if he was permitted as a redshirt.  Pat has clarified that the NCAA prohibition on redshirts would not be relevant, but do you know whether the SLIAC had any applicable rule?

hopefan

I wonder who told Seth he was eligible, the secretary?    ;D

you know - i gotta say it  -  Mac you and I had a great relationship during the season - I enjoyed having a Mac contact to hear about game results and to pass along results to you.   But often, any points that i pass along that don't fit your pro Mac agenda tend to be overlooked or evaded by your posts.  Such is the case again tonight.   Instead of a Seth is eligible because....., it's Seth is eligible end of story.

I'll ask YOU flat out  -  was Seth on the team in 20023-04, did he play in the game that i brought up?  If you have access to him, ask him.  All I want is a straight answer.  If he did, and proper channels say he's eligible anyway, that's great.  I just don't like being made to look like an idiot when i search out a point and it falls by the wayside with no explanation.   I was going to drop it, but your response of Seth is eligible end of story has spurred me on.

If I find an answer from another source, I'll pass it on.  If I was wrong I'll admit it.  If the play by play was in error, I'll let people know.  If I find I was making a mountain out of a molehill, i'll admit it.   But this is probably the best guard in the league we're talking about  -  I want to know the status      for real.
