FU loses first contest to B B C Booms (Div. 2 Pro team) by a final of 14. Down 1 at half and down 1 with 4 mins. to go. The Booms were huge. FU's Storandt and Dressler played very physical and McCoy scored well from the outside.

fc, congrats on what sounds like a strong effort by the Griffins. Are you playing international rules, trapezoidal lane, 20' 6" 3 point line, etc. If so how has FU adjusted to it and how do they like it? Is the officiating any different?

re IWU:

But they are bringing in a class that may well be the best in d3 (though potential is always just that - POTENTIAL).

Man, Chuck, you are seriously cranking that hyperbole machine of yours up to full, aren't you? I take a nice, relaxing, one-week vacation, and come back to find that you've got Sean Dwyer and Travis Rosenkrantz tossing Adam Dauksas aside like he was yesterday's cat litter; the incoming freshmen class of the Titans has skyrocketed to "may well be the best in D3"; and that selfsame group of Titans plebes has been analogized to Michigan's Fab Five of Webber, Howard, Rose, King, and Jackson.

I can't wait for the Chuck-produced sequel post in which each of the Titans freshmen flies on Jack Sikma's back to the North Pole, where he gives them each a power crystal from his Fortress of Solitude. :D

Here's a roll of the eyes for me:

::)

And since Bob doesn't do smileys, but no doubt needs to post one of these even worse than I do, here's another roll of the eyes for him:

::)

While few outside the St. Louis area  could appreciate it  (actually few inside the St Louis area can appreciate it either), what a great hotbed of D3 hoops this area provides.  I just put together a schedule of best SLIAC games coupled with Wash U games - came up with 39 dates where I can watch competitive D3 games in St Louis (though am allowing two road trips to MacMurray and one to Bloomington on Saturdays).

Some of those days are doubleheaders with Wash U and Webster hosting tourneys, and there could be another doubleheader or two  if Wash U plays on a Saturday evening when the SLIAC plays in the afternoon.   And with Wash U playing Friday night and Sundays in League play and the SLIAC playing Saturdays, it makes for many great Weekends.
Why do I continue to pay for Direct TV???????

One problem - my wife has dictated that I must take her out 1 night per week to a non related Basketball function (my first question was Can I take her to a game and count it?)   Well, looking at the schedule, there are a lot of free Thursdays!!!
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

y_jack_lok

So, hopefan, I guess dessert after a game doesn't count???

hopefan

Absolutely not  -  I don't know if I could even get away with supper at a place where basketball was on TV!!!!!

Yjack - incidently  - my home computer is down and out  -  we are counting on a Saturday night supper and competition at 6:00...  you bring the nuts!!

Hopefan, we'll be there -- with something other than nuts.

Mr. Ypsi

Now, Greg, not all readers here will have seen the context of those 'quotes' (including my admitted propensity towards 'rose-colored (green-colored?) optimism' or 'not even my green-tinted brain cells can muster much optimism for this season').

'Dwyer and Rosenkranz tossing Dauksas aside like he was yesterday's cat litter' - well, that's a rather creative reading of "To me, they both have Dauksas-like potential, though we may need 2-3 years to tell".

The analogy to the Fab Five seems a bit of a stretch - I pointed out that amazing things CAN happen with freshmen, then concluded "I doubt it; but I'm confident they won't turn pro early, or destroy the program for the next decade with NCAA sanctions".

As to the quote on THIS site "a class that may well be the best in d3" - I've been following the recruiting reports from all the major conferences.  With the possible exception of the CCIW's own Augie, if you can find one that ON PAPER looks equal to (much less better than) IWU's, let me know.  And, of course, we are talking 'on paper', since I often stressed that potential is just that - potential.

I'll inevitably embarass myself with hyperbole again at some point in the future, but, for now, the hyperbole is all yours! ;D

My apologies to Algernon, fcnews, hopefan, y_jack_lok (and any other SLIAC posters) for the temporary hijacking of your board for a good-natured (I hope!) squabble between CCIW guys.  My original point holds - if you're gonna whup the Titans, better make it this year.  We WILL be back! ;)

Your qualifications of your hyperbolic flights of fancy are actually the key to what makes them so funny, Chuck. The only thing more entertaining than a man climbing out onto a ledge is a man climbing out onto a ledge and then tap-dancing. :D

I'm surprised that you're not wining and dining her all summer in order to build up a sufficient fund of goodwill for you to take in games at your leisure next winter, Hopefan. ;)

Your mention of your attempt to create a personal D3 basketball itinerary for the upcoming season reminds me that I need to thank you and Patrick Begg for all the detective work you two have done in the "2007-08 Schedules are up" room. It'll eventually help me to do the same thing for myself here in Chicago, once I get around to it. Thanks!

Greg  -  Pat's program has pushed me out of the system - he's accomplishing in one night, what takes me several sessions throughout the week, and he's doing it every night - it's great, and I bow to the king!  -  I will take credit for coming up with the idea and centralizing the schedules, and from the hits, a number of the real fans are enjoying it!!!!

Well, to be honest, it's a big team, including hundreds of SIDs that contribute to that data being updated. It is far, far from me alone.

 Pat Coleman - I was referring to Pabegg's current preseason activity as compared to your posting of schedules on the site  -  or is Pabegg in some way connected to D3hoops and is your source for schedules?  I am confused....

Patrick Abegg here - Pat and I are just namesakes, although I've spent a lot of time gathering schedule and result information over the years and relaying it on to Pat C.

FU beats the Antwerp Giants 74-71. After being down 34-12 early. Pat McCoy led all scorers with 36, John Dressler added 15. FU made the trip minus two starters Brian Fogerty and Trevor White. The Griffins went 1-3 for the trip. Yjak I'll answer your questions when I get a second.
