Question for eureka_sid. I noticed that A. J. Richard was playing on your men's soccer team Saturday against Webster. Last season's basketball roster had him listed as a senior. Will he be playing basketball this season, or is he just finishing up requirements for graduation and happen to have elegibility for soccer?

Your guess is correct, y_jack.  A.J. is out of basketball eligibility, but could play soccer for just this season. He is a somewhat intimidating presence out there.

Thanks e_sid. I was watching the game from behind the Webster goal and AJ was at the other end defending the Eureka goal. Even from that distance I had no trouble picking him out.

HEY!  We're just a few days away from the start of practice and a championship season for the Bunch Bombers!! (Ihope)

In other schools news I saw taht Maryville has posted there recruiting class for this season.  It is not very big, but the numbers on most of the guys are prettu good.  Any thoughts on how those players will go with the returners there?  Will they be back as a darkhorse to make the top 4?

As posted a while back, it seems clear that Fontbonne has to be the favorite going into the season. Other known contenders are likely to be Greenville, Webster and Westminster. Maryville is a questionmark. They will still be young, but more experienced. Blackburn, MacMurray and Eureka all lost important players, so it is hard to know what to expect from them. Principia and Lincoln Christian are always teams we know little about until the season starts, so we'll just have to wait to see about them.

I really hope Coach Creal can get things going at Mac this season.  I think he has a tremendous energy and has proven that he can recruit in the CCIW at Millikin.  Hopefully he can do the same at Mac.  Go Highlanders!!!

I will post a list of newcomers who may contribute this year, this afternoon. Food for thought. FC plays at Oakland City on the 10th. Oakland City plays Ind. St. the night before.

Welcome Back SLIAC Posters !!!!
For conversation purposes let's assume Cartez Parker moves to the 3 spot to replace White. Returning players Lovette, Fournie and Dressler. Here is a list of newcomers who have a chance to contribute.

Transfers:

Quentin Gordon, So. (PG) Gateway Tech H.S.
Dan Size, Jr. (6'4) MICDS H.S.
Patrick Ostapowick, Jr. (6'5) SLUH
Edyu Abozin, So. (PG) Ladue H.S.

True Freshman:

Ben Rapp, (PG) Ft. Zumwalt West - was injured most of last year
Mike Riba, (6'6) Seckman H.S.
Frank Sheets (6'4) Vianney H.S.

There are more freshmen but I chose not to list all.

As for as the Maryville article goes, FU had two looks at Collins from Owensville, honestly did not have room for a 5'5 scoring guard. The kid from Campbell was coached by former Griffin Steve Fowler and FU did not have a spot for another interior player.

FU has two seniors this year Fournie and Dressler.
John Dressler at 6'9 will be the best defensive post player in the conference. Will really help defending WU's Hoggatt. Who in this conference will be able to stop Lovette in the paint. As Hope described at Conf. Tourney, his Elgin Bayler turnaround is pretty tough to defend. At 6'7 he and Dressler will give FU's big men alot more time to take breathers.

Or, could we see Fogerty, Storand and Lovette on the floor together. Alot.

I will agree I like FU's chances for the nextr couple of years.

I would like to hear Pat Coleman's position on this issue. I have long felt that this site is, without question, a form of journalism and should adhere to fundamental journalistic standards. At the very least everyone who reads, and posts on, any of these boards deserves to hear an explanation from the site administrator -- a position that seems to me to be fundamentally the same as that of editor in other forms of journalism.

Pat already pointed out a few details 'The Historian' conveniently omitted - on the NESCAC board where the discussion originated.  For 'The Historian' to then spam every men's bball board with his one-sided diatribe while Pat is doing his job covering football in the Chicago suburbs is definitely uncool (and probably deserving of banishment, though Pat might see that as awkward at this time).

A friend sent me the link to Pat's response on the NESCAC board and I am satisfied with his explanation.

If correct journalistic procedures are required, then FC will need to find another poster. I'm just relaying info.

FC - YJak was not referring to what YOU wrote - obviously someone named the Historian posted something beyond the norm - and Pat Coleman chose to delete it - I didn't see it.  But your evaluation of Fontbonne (though blatantly laughable -Dressler best conference defense post ????)- is always appreciated and always within the D3hoops rules of conduct.

Though come to think of it, there may be NO decent defensive postmenn in the conference this season - though watch out - the big kid from Maryville is working on his foot speed.... ;D ;D
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

y_jack_lok

I guess I just happened to get on the board before a post by The Historian was deleted, so I was able to read what he said. Hopefan is right, my post was in relation to that. The matter raised by The Historian is being handled between the parties involved in private, which is exactly the way it should be handled.

Don't worry.  I like your posts and always appreciate the information that you provide.  :)

Laughable Hope. Time will tell.

Fontbonne has good size for the SLIAC. Storandt 6'8, Levette 6'7, Dressler 6'9, Riba 6'6. Fogerty is as tough a 6'5 as they come.

I expect FC to 5-2 in the non - conf. schedule. Giving the two L's to the Wash U. game and RHIT, although both are at home. William Penn will not be a gimmie to open the season.

There will be a dog fight for the PG spot this season. The outside defensive pressure will be much better with Parker on the floor and Gordon may be a better athlete then Cartez.

Interested in seeing how former FC player Matt Reeb will do at GC this year.

FU has a lot of talent taking floor tommorrow for the first day of conditioning. Competition is always good. The one knock FU had last year was the strength of the bench. I believe this issue will be solved. I look forword to the start of this year.

Fontbonne has firmed up the game with Wheaton in STL. for next year.
