For those interested in listening to the Webster-Wisconsin Platteville game, I belive it can be heard via Platteville's website at the following like:

Should be an interesting game and hope the Gorloks can remain undefeated.  Hopefully I can get a Gorlok and Mizzou victory tomorrow.

In the interest of giving credit where credit is due, it appears that Eureka played a pretty strong game today against #18 Elmhurst, falling to the Bluejays, 64-51, in Elmhurst. The Red Devils led by 11 halfway through the first stanza, and went into the locker room up by three. Elmhurst didn't catch up and pass the Red Devils until there was only 7:50 left in the game, although they gradually pulled away from that point onward. Mark Darnall had 19 points before fouling out in the final couple of minutes, and Brady Wildenradt had 11 for Eureka. The visitors were only outrebounded by the significantly bigger Bluejays by a 37-34 margin. If the Red Devils had done better than 9-18 from the free throw line, they might've been in it all the way to the end. As it is, this definitely qualifies as a "good loss", if you believe that there is such a thing.

Webster beaten badly by Platteville  -  Too much size, athleticism for the Gorlocks to handle..  Several off the bench played will for Webster, but the veterans need to play with the passion they played with last year..  3 pretty pale performances from the vets in three games-

Auggie holds off a ferocious comeback bid by Wash U to win by six.... Bad news for the Bears, All american Sean Wallis tore his ACL and fractured his leg against Maryville on Tuesday against Maryville.  Surgery scheduled for this week, he'll miss the rest of the year.   No one on the floor today was comfortable filling the point guard role....

Better showing by the Red Devils today on the road against the No. 18 Elmhurst Blue Jays. All I can say is, it's a good thing Eureka isn't in the CCIW, or we'd already be 0-3 in conference.

Mark Darnall continues to round into form after a frightening soccer injury versus Lincoln Christian. It's a good thing too because he seems to be Eureka's best offense right now. McComb is not yet near 100% and Wildenradt needs to shoot the ball with more confidence. He carried EC today with 9 pts and 3 steals in the first half, but only finished with 11. Darnall scored 17 of Eureka's 27 in the 2nd half.

We're either going to need Darnall to score 30 every night, or have the other starters or bench people pick it up because I don't see us winning too many averaging 55 points a game.

I'm not officially worried yet, especially since we have yet to play at home and have taken on 2 ranked opponents on their home floor, but it would have been nice to be a tad more competitive to date. Next up is Dominican, who was nipped by Illinois Wesleyan today. We havn't beaten our former NIIC rivals from River Forest in ages. Here's hoping Wed. we can get out of this slide under the new bright lights, and on the newly paved and painted floor.

In other news, what's going on in the Lou? I thought there was going to be some crazy buzzer beater or 1 point finish every night in that town. Webster and Fontbonne have done their jobs with miraculous victories, why can't the Bears pick up the slack?

Can someone explain why Hoggatt and Kuhn only combined for 8 attempts and only 33 mins. of playing time. Was their extremely early foul trouble? Comfused.

FC - sorry, got to game and realized I hda left my phone at home!!!

As I said, the vets have got to start contributing more, and evidently that is how Coach Bunch feels too.
Hogget did get in foul trouble, but quite honestly, Robinson was more competitive with Platteville's size and inside game than Hogget, and after a nice couple of buckets early on, Darren did nothing.  I think Kuhn is still hurting with ankle or shin problems - I detected a little limping prior to the game - he has no quickness or sping to his game right now.

On the other hand, when the winner was clearly decided, Stegenmeir, Regan, and Hredlicka each came off the bench and worked their butts off and kept the game interesting.

Looks like this might be a big reason why:

After Wash U handles Plattville (highlights are Tyler Nadings 30 points, Danny O'Boyle begins to find his shotting stroke with 4 3's, and a bunch of Plattville fans very unhappy with St Louis officials), Auggie beats Webster by around 20.

Much better vibes from Webster today than yesterday however -  Webster stayed with a vastly superior Auggie team for 30 minutes - Auggie then built a 10 point lead to 20 over the last 10 minutes.  Big news is Darren Hogget started to shoot - and to make - his little turn around jump shot - over and around very good players   -  he looked like the Darren Hoggett of old.  Again several players off the bench did a great job, Regan, Hredlicka, and Ortwerth - I think distribution of playing minutes may continue to change......

Sorry FC, no phone again.

That's OK Hope - Bunchtime kept me posted on my trip back from Branson.

Just a side: Wm. Penn had their 8 game winning streak snapped by South Dakota. So. Dakota is ranked #7 in DII.

Where are the few posters we do have. More discussion pre - season then during?

Hope, I'm glad you were there.  I was listening to the game on the radio up here Platteville, and our radio announcers (albeit biased) were saying that they didn't think the officials were allowing any kind of contact when the ball handler was being closely guarded.  I'm under the impression that as long as you're not reaching and moving your feet, some contact is allowed as long as it's legal.  Maybe in the WIAC the officials allow for a little more physical play.  Was UWP just giving the ball to Nading and the rest of the Bears, because that is crazy they had 14 steals as a team?

Pioneer fan - St Louis (SLIAC officials) are, in my mind, really subpar - no consistancy one official to another, one play from another.  I did not blame your fans (there were 40-50) for being upset, and generally they handled it pretty well, as compared to one Auggie fan who screamed at the refs EVERY time down the floor.  Your #42, the good forward, was particularly snake bit, and never got into his game because of fouls.

To be quite honest, I can't recall significant turnover/steal activity  - they collapsed hard on Skemp and took it away from him several times (otherwise he had a fantastic game), and they stole a couple of longer passes when Pville was trying to get breaks....

yikes - I checked out Maryville box scores from the trip down to Missouri Southern, where they got beat badly by Mo South and by Pitt State  -

70 Turnovers!!!!   40 vs mo southern and 30 vs Pittsburg - tough to win with those kind of numbers!!
