Yjak, you may as well send us Tiemann, he'd fit in great at MU. ;D ;D

Hopefan - Are you back on the Maryville bandwagon? "send us" ???

Another good afternoon spoiled by our conference refs. They called some unbelievable fouls on FU early, that set FU's bigs down with two fouls early in the first half. Second half they didn't call anything. It was an extremeley rough half and this fan was just happy their were no injuries.

Fontbonne was led by Patrick McCoy's 28 points 8-13 from the 3's, Brian Fogerty had 22 pts on 9-11 from the field. For some unknown reason BC decided to double down everytime Storandt and not Fogerty. Fontbonne out rebounded BC 33-16 and it was FU's best night handling the ball (only 9 turnovers).

Next up for the Griffin's will be a tough road trip to EC wednesday nite.

Looking at the Webster-Prin boxscore -- another balanced game for Webster. Nine players played 14 minutes or more. Four scored in dobule figures and Brad Robinson had 12 points and 13 rebounds in 18 minutes. For Prin, four players played 31 minutes or more each. Clearly a lack of depth that will sap energy over the course of the season.

Yjak- That's the same thing Hope said all last year about Fontbonne.

Well I guess Coach Rogers was right. Looking at the boxscore Tyler Saxton put points on the board today. As a difference maker in the conference race, I was kind of expecting to see a new big man to help the Saints in the low post area.

Looking at Webster's boxscore I am still dumbfounded by Korey Kuhn's lack of contribution. Is his ankle injury limiting more then people are saying? Or has he fell out of favor with Coach Bunch?

BC played a great first half, horrible second half,  the Beavers lack any sort of mental toughness right now, once one thing goes wrong it snowballs into 15,  BC has 2 big, wide bodies, 6'6 and 6'7, unless they learn to become physical the team will continue to be outrebounded 33-16, As far as refs go.... I didnt know putting your hip into a screen was legal, but it is SLIAC basketball, questionable officiating comes with the territory

If there are any "new faces" for MacMurray, you won't see them until the second semster starts, which is next Tuesday. That's when I'd check the box scores.

Sorry about the Westminster-Illinois College SLIAC inference. I'm not that familier with the all of the SLIAC teams yet.

You can say he is not a great shooter, you can say he's being mis-used, I could say it's questionable to let someone who left the team fire up 14 shots in only 23 minutes of action in his 1st game back...but the fact of the matter is Tyler Saxton was the difference in today's game. Maryville wouldn't have won without him.

This was a close game like I expected (though not EVERYBODY felt that way before it started  ;)) It was actually one of the most exciting Eureka games this season. It would have been better had Maryville not run the stall offense for the last 11 minutes of the game, but whatever works.

The key plays were Curtis Goodwin's three-pointer after EC had trimmed an 11 point deficit to 1 and the EC's inability to grab the rebound off Maryville's missed three-pointer with under 30 seconds left. Clutch free throws were made by Jared McCoy and MU guarded the 3-point line very well on the Eureka's last chance to tie.

EC was hampered big time in the 1st half with 2 fouls to Zasada and 3 on McComb (one came on a technical after was he called for a charge). There were a lot of fouls called, but there were a lot of fouls committed. I'm not sure what Matt said to get the T, but I seriously doubt it was anything too bad. As a captain, he should be allowed to discuss some things with the officials. Unfortunately, he was not given that opportunity. The free throws and time lost on the court could be pointed to as the difference in such a close game.

These looked like evenly matched teams to me. One left feeling good about themselves and the other left thinking they let one get away. It should be a good rematch in Eureka later.

Given the results of yesterday and prior, this will still be an entertaining year of SLIAC hoops - It would appear 3 teams will be playing for 1st place, edge at this point in time to Webster with their win over Font, while the fourth spot may very well be up for grabs... all games crucial for Eureka, Maryville, Greenville, but BC Mac or Prin could throw a monkeywrench in on any of those 3.  Anxious to see Westmin and how they compare to Font and Web...

Good analysis by Eureka SID, though McComb did a little more than discuss the call .... ;D ;D

Right Guard - If you don't have any complaints with the officiating then I shouldn't. It was BC who had only 4 free throw attempts. I thought, the second half, the game got out of hand. With the way FU's bigs play I can't believe any opponent would shoot just 4 ft's.

I definately think the BC fans would disagree with you. It is the one reason I dread going to the Beaver Dome. In fact in the women's game, play had to be stopped for about five minutes for game management to handle a problem that the ref had with a BC parent.

All being said, I thought BC played very hard and shot the ball well the first half. I questioned the game plan against Storandt. Doubling him left Fogerty and McCoy open.

Hopefan - Having not seen MU yet, are the Saints trying to run an abbreviated version of the system? Or, is their number of three point attempts a result of EC's defense.

hopefan

no, we're not talking system here, but more an inability, or lack of confidence, in getting the ball inside...  I will say though, that I didn't see Coach Rogers act displeased over any of the shots - he loves the 3 - unfortunately, as I see it, they just don't have the shooters....

FU Fan

In Sat. BC/FU game it appeared to me that BC wanted to step the pace up in the 2nd. The team doesn't  look in the best physical condition to try and out run FU. The officiating was poor.SLIAC refs. always seem to always even it up. IT is or IT ain't. FU has some guys that have been playing 25 plus minutes a game going on 3 years.I do think that if they don't get some minutes off the floor by years end they may be worn out.It would have been best to slow it down. Fast Pace is the way FU likes it.The Woman's game was great! BC with a short bench played to a comeback FU held in there waiting on the one thing that FU couldn't do and did TURN THE BALL OVER.

MacMurray at Greenville (Saturday Recap)

89-76 Final / Greenville

I looked at the final box but not in great detail.  What I can tell you is the Panthers played 100x better than the Harris Stowe game.  Big games from hometown product Stephen Groves, playing very well in what was his first collegiate start.  LaPhonso Ellis & Terrance Cosby was a very sharp tandem inside with the ball being fed into these to makeshift post players.  Chris "take me" Hohm also played well the last two games.  The Panthers can go 10 deep and not struggle that much.   As much as post play will still be an issue, if Hohm, Ellis, and Cosby can play the low position like they did Saturday, the Panthers should fair well in the SLIAC season.

I was at the game and announced both the men's and women's game.  I appreciate the folks at Greenville welcoming me back and allowing me to announce.  Great week at Greenville.  If you havent been to HJ Long since the upgrade, you will be pleasantly pleased.  It looks great, sound system is being fixed.  I'd venture to say it's near the top of the SLIAC Venues.

GO PANTHERS!

FU Fan - I agree that Fontbonne needs to get more from their bench. But, most of those kids that are playing 25 minutes, have worked their butt off to get in the kind of shape to play those minutes. They still make faces even when they come out for a short breather. Yes, FU does like to push the pace. It helps when you have a big man like Fogerty who continues to beat the defense down the floor. Brian had at least two dunks off of shear hustle on the break.

Freshmen Ben Rapp played a solid 18 minutes for FU yesterday and Lovette will always give good minutes. Dressler needs to see more time and Frank Sheetz needs to find confidence in his stroke. He is a great shooter and at 6'5 he could be a poor man's version of Trevor White. Again, I say could be.

Most of FU's starter's minutes are down this year, compared to last. But, they came to Fontbonne to play and not spend their career on the bench. I don't beleive any of these kids would be happy in a 10-12 man rotation getting 18-20 minutes a game. Just my opinion being around them.

hopefan

I would be amazed if any of the kids are happy with the current substitution patterns at Maryville.. :-\

oh and
I ran into some people who were at the Webster game - Webster lost a big lead and were actually momentarily behind Prin in the second half!!!  Their superior depth helped to win the game in the last 10-12 minutes.

remember Webster vs Wash U this AFTERNOON  -  unfortunately can't leave work early enough to get over there.... Will be a major stunner if Gorlocks could pull an upset,  my hope is they play well enough to feel good about themselves and to use at solid preparation for the conference games to come.
