Will do fcnews!  Will do.  Not happy that the NWC meetings are at the same time at the Indianapolis/San Diego game on Sunday.  Not a happy camper at all!!!  :)

My Loggers, up to #9, play host to cross town rival Pacific Lutheran tonight!  GO LOGS!  GO PANTHERS!

Ear phones Pride, Ear phones. Let's hope they don't vote to stretch out pre-season practice time any further. How long can these teams practice with out getting a chance to beat up on someone else.

FC, I believe that the goal should be that our top 2-3 SLIAC teams compete anually with Wash U.  As I mentioned earlier, in Coach Bunch's second year, he defeated Wash U at their place by 10.  Although winning should be the long-term goal, we must first start competing with Wash U.

I also agree with the previous comments regarding the academic reputation of Wash U serves as Edwards greatest recruiting tool.  No way does any DIII team have a budget that allows coaches to travel the country recruiting players.

Finally, I too believe that in such a major metropolitan area such as St. Louis there should never be a shortage of area talent to fill DIII rosters.  The problem, in my opinion, is not the players who go to NAIA schools where they can offer scholarships, but rather to the many of kids going to Mizzou simply to attend school, as Hopefan points out.  Thus, the SLIAC schools need to establish relationships with local coaches at the high school level so these coaches encourage his players to give Fontbonne, Webster, and Maryville a hard look.  I am a firm believer that the 3rd, 4th, or 5th leading scorer at the top tier high schools would make excellent SLIAC basketball players.  These would typically be the kids that would not be attracting NAIA attention, and therefore the SLIAC schools would not have to compete with scholarship schools.

I realize this isn't the Northwest Conference board and I realize I missed one of the greatest games in NWC history, but at the Memorial Fieldhouse in Tacoma, Puget Sound d. Pacific Lutheran in the annual Tacoma rival game 125-116 in Double OT in front of near 1,700...  I'm mad I wasn't there....

Just noticed an afternoon doubleheader of D3 hoops in St Louis is available this Saturday afternoon!!

@ 1:00, take your choice of SLIAC games, Mac @ Webster or Prin @ Fontbonne, then at 3:00 Wash U hosts Chicago.  Wish we had a better Sliac matchup...  of course could go for the trifecta and catch the 1st half of Webster game, 2nd half of Fontbonne then to Wash U.

Bunchtime - I agree with your statement about the kids going to Mizzou. FU has two players on this years roster that attended MU last year and realized they still had the desire to play. One of them was recruited strongly by the Griffin's out of H.S., now if they can drop the 10 lbs. gained laying out and enjoying the night life they will help.

Fontbonne has always done well recruiting the small town kids just outside the city on both sides of the river. We are a small campus in the middle of the big city and these kids seem to really enjoy the atmosphere. Westminster gets alot of kids that are looking for the fraternity flavor without going to a large school.

We are comparing apples to oranges. The SLIAC needs to competitive with like conferences. HCAC, MWC and yes the CCIW. I think we are moving in the right direction. The UAA is a totally different animal.

Let's also not forget the financial benifit that the NAIA schools offer. Trevor White is a good example. If he would of got away to College of the Ozarks, would he still be in school? Remember, as educators that is the goal.

No one has mentioned last nights upset. LCC beat Prin. by 10 at Principia. At least I consider it an upset.

y_jack_lok

Since LCC-Prin isn't an official conference game I overlooked it. After Webster played LCC I remember posting, a number of pages back, that LCC should not be considered an easy win for anyone. The outcome doesn't surprise me.

hopefan

Well, coming into the game, LCC hadn't beaten a D3 team, Prin had beaten only MacMurray, who in turn hadn't beaten a D3 team...  seems it was a pick 'em game.....  though Prin had been somewhat competitive in most of their games....

Results are in
Webster beats Blackburn easily

Westmin has more trouble with Mac than expected, winning by 11

Maryville plays a great first half leading Greenville by 24, but Greenville stages a miraculous comeback in the 2nd half, missing several shots to tie or get within one, and MU holds on to win by 6

Fontbonne plays great, beats Eureka badly, much to the dismay of EC SID  -  what happened to FCnews - no answer to my calls????

More on Maryville game tomorrow......  Panther, you would have been proud of your guys - super comeback rather than laying down....

Yeah, I followed on Live Stats.  I couldn't get Saint Cast to work.  I am proud.  By looking at the stats, Ellis had a big night and Chris "Take Me" Hohm had a coming out party as well.  Again, need Simmons and Cosby to have solid nights in the scoring column.  3-11 from those two aren't going to win too many games.  Turnovers for Simmons is also an issue for this game.

I still love my panthers!!!  Keep your heads up fellas!  Look forward to reading your take tomorrow hopefan!

Very disappointing result in Eureka tonight. It really pains me to watch games like this. As a fan, you get excited about ones like this because of the great games Fontbonne and EC played last year. It was frustrating that no matter what we tried, nothing worked. Meanwhile, Fontbonne looked like they were taking a nice stroll in the park.  EC got killed on the boards 50-28 at shot 30 percent. How off of a night was it? EC was 28 percent on two point attempts.

On the bright side, McComb is looking stronger and close to back to his form of last season. Yeoman's work from him will be needed to keep this team in contention. Another night goes by and those match ups with Maryville and Greenvile EC has/will play are looking more and more important. Will any of the top 3 get upset anyone else? My guess is yes, but by whom?

I think Fontbonne's turnovers will end up hurting them this year. There were stretches when FU looked like they were trying to let EC back into the game with some horrendous decisions with the ball. Obviously, when a team shoots 52 percent, you can turn it over a little more and be O.K. But how often can they shoot this precisely?

The Westminster/Mac score is a little deceiving. Upon furthus review from the boxscore, it looks like the Jays ran into a hot Mac team from the outside. This is something you fear as a heavy favorite on the road. Westminster got outscored by 27 points from the 3-point line and still won by 12. They will be another tough test for EC Saturday.

I was shocked to see Maryville score 51 points in a half versus Greenville. How can this happen? Kudos to the Panthers for a valiant comeback attempt, but how 'bout showing up defensively in the first half if you really want to win?

Webster beats Blackburn by an ugly score. That makes WU, WC and FU 9-1 with exactly 0 games decided by single digits in conference play. In fact only 4 out of the 16 total SLIAC games played so far have been single digit games. This doesn't make for the most exciting of seasons if you ask me.
