ok forgot that one of our games is tonight..

Westminster should take Prin easily - better starting 5, more depth should = double digit win

Eureka at Mac - Nothing wrong with Mac's effort at Webster on Saturday, but they just aren't very talented.  Kudos to Neil Compton for not giving up the ship when all his teammates left, but he needs a lot more help.  Eureka has had a tough week, but they are not out of this thing yet.  Eureka by 10

Webster at Greenville  -  I could write that this an upset waiting to happen, that I like Coach Barbers coaching, that Greenville has good speed, good shooters, and that Ellis is a heck of a player with the ball.....  BUT, Webster has too much everything in this matchup  -  Webster

Fontbonne at Maryville - Mixed emotions on this one - I was VERY unhappy with Maryville after the Eureka game - the way they played, the coach's behavior on the bench, the 38 3 point attempts.  Everything changed in the game vs Greenville, Everything I saw in the first half I liked, and though the 2nd half went sour, it was due to outstanding Greenville play and Maryville youth at the guard spot - it was a learning experience.  Maryville COULD beat Fontbonne if they put together a full game at the level they played Greenville in the first half.  But, I don't think it will happen.  No answer for Storandt, and not so sure they can defend Fogarty either.  To me the answer will be if Maryville's defensive pressure can create enough of a mess with fontbonne's guards that they don't settle into an offense that gets the big guys the ball.  I still have no faith in Font's bench - foul trouble could be a big hurt on Fonbonne - they'll need to avoid it.  Casey Holland could be a major factor battling the boards, and maybe, just maybe, the big soph Deimeke could help for a couple minutes battling Storandt.  Fontbonne should win this one, but an upset, or at least a close game, would be a lot of fun.

This is former Mac guard Seth Whalum posting and I just want to say its been rough to see what some of my former teammates are going through. After being regular season co-champs a year ago I know its been tough for guys like Neil, Billy, Nick, and Adam, but I'm sure that their record doesn't reflect their effort. I know having 3 different coaches isn't easy I would know dating back to Coach Gay, to Coach Deneve, and then to Coach Hettinga. I dont think the players deserve that but not much they can do. Not sure on how long this new coach plans on sticking around but if Mac wants to get back to its winning ways consistency in coaching is where it is going to start. One of the reasons we were so successful last year was due to a combination of great coaching and very athletic/talented players. From what I have been hearing Mac lacks the talent this year and maybe wont be as strong until a couple of more years. I know the guys that I played with in Long, Compton, Polston and Schmidt are all very talented and hard working players. I dont know the new players so I wont comment on them, but I feel for Compton and Long who have to go out like this I think they deserve better.

Of my three years at Mac I really believe we could have been a lot more competitive in three of those years. But I cant complain on how we went out my senior year.

Just to clear some rumors up I only used three years of eligibility at Mac, I have papers from NCAA officials stating so and clearing me for 1 more year of eligibility, because their was some confusion regarding my academics.

Just to throw this out there, did any you watch our conference tournament game last year against Eureka? Any comments?

Yes Seth, I saw it. I felt for you and your teammates. After such a great regular season it was a painfull way for it to end. I said last year that you and Coleman were by far the best guard combo in the conference. Your right about this years squad. You can't blame their effort. Best wishes to you and your future.

Thanks for the compliments fcnews, I really appreciate it. Our team checked out the posts on here pretty often last year and I guess I want to say thanks to all of the posters who post regularly, because it kind of made us feel like somebody actually cared about the teams in the SLIAC. I mean if you are playing D3 basketball you have to love the game, and know that you are not going to be on ESPN or anything like that.  But playing in the SLIAC is another thing. Even though our regualr season as a whole for the SLIAC was exciting im not sure anyone outside of SLIAC even knew or cared about who was going to win. So just to see people on here post and comment on the players and the games was pretty exciting for me, im not sure about the other players.

If a SLIAC team where to go 24-1 and that one loss being in the conference tournament championship game, would they get an at large bid to the big dance? Hmmm.....I don't know?

I'm going to try and start posting more, and just try and give a players perspective on certain topics.

Seth, good to hear from you again - Every team has a bad game - unfortunately yours came that night vs Eureka - When Ithink of that team, I don't identify it with that game, but rather the great balance the starting 5 had and the fire that Coach Hettinga brought to each game.  Don't sweat that last game....

Just like to put my 2 cents out there and say look for a big game from the Greenville Panthers. Coming off a tough loss last week from Maryville and an easy win against Blackburn they are looking to keep the wins going.
Hopefully, they will come out hard in the first half and get into the swing of things early instead of waiting until the 2nd half like in the Maryville game.

Ellis and Cochran (despite fouling out) both had good games against Blackburn and consistently perform and put up the points.  Just need the rest of the guys to match the intensity and play good DEFENSE which will probably be a key, mainly the rebounding.

So, I am going to have to go with the upset saying Greenville will beat Webster in a close game.

"As I will be going to the Maryville Fontbonne game, as will FC, and Yjak is unable to go over to Greenville for the Webster game"

Hopefan, Yjak and "Furdog" will be at Greenville  ;D ::)

Woot Woot!  Gville_Panther pulling out the upset for the Panthers.  I can't say I see that happening, but I hope the boys of the Jungle play well.  Ellis, Cochran, Hensold, Simmons, and "Take Me" Hohm needs to have big games.

Note Hopefan, Yjak, and furbug, I hope you enjoy Greenville's new look.  Enjoy those programs as well... from 2200 miles away, I'm still doing them! ;)

I'd like to know your thoughts on the Gym.

NCAA Convention:  I attended the convention this year and sat in on the NCAA III meetings.  Wow!  Lots of fire regarding the potential D-III split.

I'd like to send out a few "Atta Boys".

With his 16 boards, this past Saturday, Justin Storandt passed the 500 career mark.
Brian Fogerty and Patrick McCoy will soon join the FU 1000 pt. Club.
Oh, and Patrick was named SLIAC POW again this week.

Not a bad recruiting class. Hermann, Winfield and Salem should be proud of these hometown boys.

Nice to hear from Seth Whalum and that he stills follows the MacMurray team. More than one person on this board cast serious doubt on the MacMurray athletic department when it was reported that Whalum had an extra year of eligibility. Would be fun to go back in the archives and pull out some of those quotes. Some pretty wicked comments aimed at Whalum and MacMurray. Turns out Whalum indeed had the extra year of eligibility. Maybe an apology or two is in order?
