Reagan played football and track at Eureka College.  He was a pretty solid athlete in college.

I hope that you all can bring up this link below. It is a great action picture of Brad Robinson in the Webster University Journal, showing his determination going up with an elbow in his gut.

Bunchtime - My Grandpa was dye in the wool Democrat. Me, independent. I still found the Reagen exhibit very interesting. It's history.

sliac_bystander, thanks for that interesting research. I would have expected Principia to be among the top conference teams in endowment, but not leading the pack, and certainly not by almost 6 times the next closest school. Nevertheless, these numbers pale in comparison to Ivy League schools and dozens if not hundreds of other schools.

A little further research reveals that, at the end of 2007, 76 colleges and universities have endowments of 1 billon dollars or more.

The Ronald Reagan museum is located in what amounts to the "student union" at Eureka and is a very popular view by all visitors, even if you're not a biggest Reagan fan. There's also the Peace Garden with a big chunk of the Berlin Wall. The Reagan museum is a cool thing that I love showing off to any guest on campus. Reagan played football, swimming and track and field. It gets difficult to separate fact from legend about what he did here on campus, but one thing that always rang true was his love for the college. That never changed!

As for the status of EC, I think the fact we added soccer (with on campus facilities) this past year even though we were already above the NCAA minimum for sports speaks for itself. The next step is to have stability in the coaching staff because with the size of the college, we're always going to be behind the 8-ball in the numbers game.

I keep thinking the bomb will explode sometime and we'll have some upsets to disrupt the "Hopefan Percentage Index." Maybe Saturday will be the day with 3 of the favorites on the road. I hope not for the Red Devils' sake. Prin seems to have hit the skids of late, but could be due for a big game.

FC, me, I am a proud conservative Republican.  If I am not mistaken, Reagan gave one of his Cold War speeches from Eureka College.  He always had a fond memory of his alma mater!

I don't think MacMurray College will be closing its doors any time soon. It's death on this Board has been greatly exagerated before. President Hester has brought renewed excitement and enthusiasm to the campus, and she is committed to raising the endowment and improving the long-term financial health of the institution. That being said, like many of the other colleges of similar size, MacMurray will constantly be challenged by the numbers. Contrary to the formersliaccommissioner's comment, I don't think MacMurray is the only school in the SLIAC that has had a difficult time keeping coaches. Eureka and Blackburn come to mind, and there may be others. Coaches leave for better opportunities. It happens. For those who havn't been to MacMurray College, check out the link below (I hope I copied and pasted it correctly). The school initiated a capitol improvement plan this past spring and summer, and made more than $1 million in improvements to the physical plant and infrastructure. A similar plan will take place again this spring and summer. Not the sign of a college preparing to close its doors.

If you haven't been to the Reagan exhibit at Eureka College, it's a must see. First class and full of original artifacts. There's also a piece of the original Berlin Wall close by, which is placed next to the spot where President Reagan spoke to a large gathering of people on campus. I'm pretty sure President Regan visted Eureka College twice while he was president and one of those times was a commencement speaker.

The Winston Churchill exhibit on the Westminster Campus is equally, if not more, impressive. It's where Churchill gave his "Iron Curtain" speech. The exhibit is in a beautiful church on the Westminster campus and it's loaded with incredible pictures and pieces from Churchill. There's a picture of Churchill, alongside President Truman, speaking in the Westminster Gym. Packed with people. Probably wasn't too hot.

Good luck to the underdogs today. Save travels for everyone.

Well written words by Gem Shooz - if I didn't know any better, I'd swear I've seen that same writing style from a former contributor to this board who disappeared as a writer last summer. That writer has been missed as I considered him another friend met thru D3hoops, but Gem Shooz fills the absence nicely... ::) ::) ::)
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Just to chime in on the future of MacMurray. I believe last season I was the one voice (other than Mac Attack, now ably replaced by Gem Shooz) who felt that MacMurray would get turned around. Further strengthening my conviction about this is word from a friend in Springfiled who teaches a class at MacMurray, has met the new president and gives her very high marks.

Probably most of you have seen it, but, if not, there is a very nice article in today's Post Dispatch about Fontbonne. It also mentions the other SLIAC teams as well, and the competition. SLIAC seems to be getting a bit more attention from the Post lately.

Gem Shooz

Gem Shooz is new to the board, hopefan. Just a Mac and SLIAC fan like the rest of you.
