New WU athletics website looks great. I've aleady signed up for the weekly e-newsletter.

For the NCAA tournament, don't forget they use "pods" now, with 4 teams at one site for 1st and 2nd rounds.  You can pretty much assume to be able to host one of these pods you most likely need to be ranked #1 or #2 in your region.

Welcome to the board WU_SID.  I hope you enjoy the sometimes meaningless banter that goes on.

FONTBONNE BASKETBALL PROGRAM REPORTS FIRST RECRUIT OF THE '08-'09 CLASS

Daniel Lisch - 6'2 PG out of Bellville, IL. ( Belleville West H.S. )

Daniel is the younger brother of SLU standouts Kevin (Atlantic-10 All-Conference Team) and Thersea ('07 A-10 All Rookie Team). Daniel and his family made it official today and you can look for the release to follow in the Post - Dispatch. He is looking forward to having fun playing ball and enjoying the DIII experience, while only 10 minutes from his siblings. He will be majoring in Special Education and is looking towards a career in coaching.

Lisch will give the Griffin's some depth at the guard spot with his ability to handle the point and shoots the ball well. His brother Kevin is 6th on SLU's all time 3 point list. FU will have a nice mix of experience, with guards that will be senior, junior, sophmores and freshmen. Will allow them to go to a three guard look at times and improve match up concerns.

Remember you heard it here on D3Hoops first.

Here is a ranking of Class of 2008 players in Illinois by Chicagohoops.com, done last last...

http://www.core1training.com/012307_article.html

For what it's worth, Lisch (#80) is ranked ahead of Dylan Richter (#83), who committed to Wash U a month or so ago...

"Possibly the most sought after Division III prospect in the state of Illinois is now off the board, as Stevenson High School's Dylan Richter has committed to Washington University in St. Louis."

(PS The above is an enormous exaggeration, as are most things written on these recruiting sites! :)  I can name 15 more sought after D3 prospects off the top of my head - it's just that the kids and the sites have no idea they are "D3 prospects" quite yet...everyone is "D1" until about April 1!)

For persective, #78 Matt Toth has a ride to D2 Lewis as does #86 Marty Strus, and #88 Kevin Stineman will be heading to D2 SIU-E on a scholarship.

Sounds like Fontbonne landed a good player.

Thanks for your post Titan Q. Well written. Well explained. I went and watched the Belleville West v. Edwardsville (18-0) game last night. How can you tell much of anything when these games are played in the 40's. West had it tied at half 23-23. If it wasn't for the snow, I'm sure I good of watched the grass grow out the window. Edwardsville won by 4 or 5, not sure of the final score. Both teams players had to look at the bench for permissision to shoot. Ugh.

I do know that FU is getting a great kid. Got to meet the family and they will fit into the Fontbonne family nicely. Daniel's older sister, who played at Indiana State, was there from Indiana. Her husband works at RHIT, they were excited about the chance to see FU play up their next year.

PS - There are only two players from the Metro East on that list. Plus they don't have Daniel's right HS.

Great games around the SLIAC today.  Still looking and waiting on a Greenville score.  I'll update when I get it.

Guys - I'm at home today - the Eueka Maryville game must have been a nailbiter - anxious to see a writeup fron Ec Sid - also waiting for the final GC -Mac result - Webster suffers a letdown, but nips Prin.

Scores were up on both D3hoops and the SLIAC site before 3:00!!  but nothing from Mac...

The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

GC wins 70-64 per Pride.

FU wins 84-69. FU takes a 22-2 first half lead and just got sloppy. Half 42-40. 2nd half was more like the Griffin performances I've grown a custom to.

Final from Jacksonville, Ill.

Greenville 81, MacMurray 70 (F)

Webster only beats Principia by 6 at home. Sloppy day all around the STL.

Nothing changes in the hopefan standings

Webster +2  wins at Fontbonne and at Westminster

Fontbonne  -1  loss at home to Webster

Westmin  -2  loss vs Greenville, loss at home to Webster

and for 4th
Greenville  +1  win over Westminster
Eureka 0
Maryville 0

Eureka's win is huge to maintain their position, tough loss for Maryville that could have tied them with Greenville.

The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Panthers have Lincoln Christian on Wednesday, but next Saturday will be a season make or breaker.  Greenville has to be on top of their game if the plan on making the SLIAC Championship Tournament.  Big day.

Can't wait to hear break downs of games from people around the SLIAC.
