Food for thought about the WU v. FU match up:

Possible match ups to look for-

Fogerty - 21.2 ppg, 7.6 rpg
Hoggatt - 12.8 ppg 4.1 rpg

Robinson - 12.8 ppg. 10.3 rpg
Storandt - 9.1 ppg. 10.5 rpg

Hrdlicka - 9.1 ppg 3.8 rpg
Fournie - 6.4 ppg 6.2 rpg

Niebrugge - 6.7 ppg 4.0 rpg
Branch     - 15.5 ppg 3.5 rpg

Turk   - 14.0 ppg 3.6 rpg
Abozen - 10 ppg. 4.0 rpg.

These are conference only stats. And, these match ups may not happen. But, boy it's a close one.
Team Offense FU(#1) 78 ppg / WU(#2) 77 ppg   Team Defense WU(#2) 61 ppg / FU(#3) 63 ppg

It is a sad day.  Bobby Knight has left the profession.  One of my favorites of all-time!  He is a definite on my list of "5 people I would love to meet"!

I'll second that Bunchtime. One of the most honest individuals in the game. He use to tell his recruits parents, " If your son comes and plays for me, I can only promise three things. He will graduate, he will leave with a better understanding of basketball and he will leave prepared to make a contribution with his life."

I think in most cases he lived up to his word.

I would agree with the other posts about Coach Knight. As long as you could handle his way of doing things you were going to be successful with him and I think his track record is proven when you look at his coaching linage. Coach K at Duke, Steve Alford at New Mexico and of course his son taking over for him at Texas Tech. The players that played all four years for him are extremely loyal to him and credit him for their success.

Well, he's a friend of Tony La Russa so perhaps he'll be in St. Louis more now that he's retired. :)

I agree with all the statements posted about Bob Knight.  As a youngster growing up, I loved going over to my neighbors house and watching Knight and his IU teams on WTTV-4.  I loved watching the old man go at it and teach the boys the game of basketball and life.  He's one of the guys that I wanted to model part of my life after.

In college, I wrote a number of papers on him and did a few presentations talking about him.  As mis-understood as he was, he's still probably the greatest or second greatest behind Coach Wooden.  I realize that I am young compared to most of the posters on this board and you all saw alot more of Knight than I did.  I stared watching IU and sports in about 1992.  He's an inspiration to me.  I feel privilaged that I got a chance to go up to the Great Alaskan Shootout this past fall and watch him in action, live twice.  My cousin and I (both die heart IU/Knight fans) sat about 8 rows behind Texas Tech's bench and listen to Knight teach and go to town on the refs.  What a pleasure and a great experience it was.

From the looks of the weather channel, it's a good thing it's almost walking distance down Big Bend to WU.

For those who can't attend the Webster-Fontbonne games tomorrow night they will be web cast at http://www.webster.edu/galaxy or by clicking on the links on the SLIAC basketball pages. Both games will be broadcast.

In regards to Coach Knight, I agree his methods were able to reach some of his players, but how many of his players did he make hate the game of basketball all together?  Obviously his accomplisments speak for themself, but at what expense?

Well, its like FC said, Coach Knight never pulled any punches and everyone who went to play for him knew what they were getting into.  That said, not everyone could handle playing for him, and if they had doubts, there are tons of other schools to choose from.  Personally, I would love to play for him and would send a son to play for him in a heartbeat because I know he will become a better person for having the opportunity to do so.  His throw-back style of coaching will certainly be missed by me, as we all know that style of coaching is becoming a dying breed!

Not to mention his throw-chair style of coaching! ;D

Mr. Ypsi - It will remain to be seen if his coaching days are remembered for his tons of accomplishments. Or, his moments of bad judgement..

Coach K said it best last night:
"Outside of my immediate family, he was the most infleuntial person in my life"

That's the highest compliment you can pay a coach.

The great thing is that those links on the SLIAC pages simultaneously appear on our site, since the SLIAC is a PrestoSports subscriber.

Games with those audio links (or video or live stats) also appear on the front page on game night. Great stuff.

Neil Reed probably agrees.
