Why so grumpy? I wasn't even involved in that conversation.

I sure hope this comment was not intended toward me. But, then again I wouldn't be suprised.

We've spent pages and pages on the virtues of MU going D2. It's done the announcement has been made. Unless we're discussing the impact on the D3 student-athletes that will be left behind at MU, then why the need for all the tables and figures on a division that this site doesn't even pretain to.

Three more weeks and we'll have the answers from the SLIAC on the extent of MU's participation in the SLIAC this coming season.

We don't have many SLIAC posters that are privy to the recruiting going on at the other schools. It's a shame because it would lend some legitimate D3 conversation.

Jimmy: Jimmy thinks the Hall of Famers just need to get in their daily quota of posts.

Thanks for the comments Coach. I know the undergrad figure for Fontbonne is wrong.

We had a lot of seniors in the SLIAC this season. I'd like to wish them the best in all their future plans. It's been a pleasure watching all of you.

The gorloks have added several new faces for next year:

6 foot 8 juco transfer from Michigan
6 foot 7 juco transfer from Minnesota
6 foot 2 juco transfer from Illinois
6 foot 7 280 pound post from Belleville East
6 foot 6 freshman from San Diego CA, all city and averaged 18 and 13

I will provide more information, including names, as soon I learn more.  Just thought I would drop a line in the meantime.

Just what the doctor ordered for the gorlocks in order to get well after the loss to graduation of big men Hoggett and Robinson...   Plenty of Size..... hoping one or more are at a quality level that they can help right away.....

Here's hoping that Fontbonne can round out their class with one or two bigger players too

Fontbonne reported 1,546 FT undergrads to the federal government in its last annual report. (Looks like 2006-07.)

Looking through some more schedules posted for next season - I see that Eureka will be joining Wash U and Benedictine at the Elmhurst Tournament Dec 19 and 20th.

Eureka plays Wash U on the first night.

As FC pointed out, Elmhurst is coming down to Fontbonne, Tuesday Dec 16 on Elmhurst's schedule

Well , after reading so much about the recruits to various schools in the CCIW, and having heard from FC regarding Fonbonne newcomers, I called several of the Basketball offices in the SLIAC to see if I could get any info  -   don't get excited, I got none,     but at least nobody told me to go jump in a lake. (or the Mississippi)

Coach Bunch from Webster gave me an upbeat greeting, but was just on his way out the door to Augustana to watch Webster play their  NCAA Tourney 2nd Round Baseball Game  -  he invited me to call him back next week.

Coach Chandler  of Blackburn also chatted pleasantly with me - unfortunately, the Blackburn system prohibits him from releasing any names - he invited me to call back in a month or two and he would be able to share info.  He did make two points of interest...   No 1, he will be the coach next year - there was a rumor floated, at least to me, that he would be filling only the AD job next year - that is false, he'll be back coaching next season.  Also of interest is that coach's son, Grant Chandler, played as a junior at Carlinville HS this past season with great success - I found on the net that he averaged 17 points per game - will he be playing for Dad at BC in two years, or perhaps go higher?

Coach Wilde at Eureka was out of the office - I left a message

EURKA SID - where are you?  can you push out some info?

Will try several of the other schools next week.....

Hello all, I am a big NWU fan and saw that there 2008-09 schedule is posted.  They will be playing Webster and Maryville opening weekend.  Looks like a good challenge considering Maryville will be skipping out of DIII soon and webster has had some success in recent years on opening weekend (defeating Hanover each of the last two years).

Hater supplies us with interesting info - NWU -  Nebraska Wesleyan - plays Webster on Friday 11/21  and Maryville  on Saturday 11/22.   As always, these two St Louis schools schedule outstanding competition.   Nebraska Wesleyan plays in an NAIA conference but also maintains D3 eligibility - They are perenially a solid D3 team, though seemed to be down at the end of the season last year....

Wesleyan did stumble down the stretch last year.  They expect to have all but one player back from last year's squad.  Their league is tough, the GPAC is an NAIA DII conference.  Is there room in the SLIAC for NWU in coming years?

#5305
that would be a very long trip for schools that don't have much spending money  -   current longest trip  (Westminster in Fulton Mo to Eureka Il) is approximately 275 miles - a trip to Lincoln from st louis is close to 450 miles.    A lot of miles for NWU if they had to travel 4 or 5 times per season.

True, although I have heard rumors that Spaulding (Louisville, KY) will be joining the conference.  That would also be a long trip.

Pat Coleman

Had never really thought of Nebraska Wesleyan as a SLIAC possibility. I'd always pictured their best bet being the IIAC. Looks like their longest trip would be Dubuque and Loras at 390 miles. In a travel partner situation with perhaps Buena Vista (190 miles) that might be doable.

that is a good point, I am just going to speculate that IIAC is not and has not looked to add another conference member in a good while.

I thought another possibility for NWU would to be travel partners with Colorado College and join that league (SCAC).  Anyway, my point was that if the SLIAC is in fact going to add a school from as far away as KY, why not look at adding a school from the other direction (like Lincoln, NE).

Pat Coleman

Well there's a good reason why they wouldn't add both -- that would guarantee everyone has a long trip every year, even in a divisional setup.

The IIAC requires that each of its members sponsor all 18 sports, for what it's worth.

I have no idea what the IIAC leadership thinks, and to add to that, they are looking for a new commissioner. The conference has lost two members in the past eight years or so.
