The Fontbonne men's basketball schedule is now online. Here is the link: http://www.fontbonne.edu/athletics/teams/mensbasketball/schedulesresults.htm.

As previously stated on this board, the schedule includes non-conference games against Rust, Wash U, Elmhurst, Rose Hulman, Chaminade (in Hawaii), Grinnell, Lincoln Christian College and the much debated Moody Bible Tournament. Have at it!

FU SID and or FCnews  -   I'm Really boggled at Fontbonne's schedule in the last week..

Playing Tuesday AND Thursday before the Friday conference tourney game???????  Can that be right?   that means NO preparation time for Friday's game, and in theory, the possibility that matchups and location of the tourney would not be finalized until after Thursday's game????!!!!
Why is the previous Saturday open and the Greenville game moved to Thursday?

I'm hoping there's an error.....
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Nice catch....just an error. I forgot to delete a line from last year's schedule. Thanks.

FU  -  no problem, glad to catch it early.....

Webster's '08-'09 schedule is up: http://www.websterathletics.com/schedule.aspx?path=mbball&schedule=2&

To get to it wihtout using the link go to the Webster Athletics homepage, click on Men's Basketball, click on "Schedule" and you will probably get the '07'-08 schedule. However, in the upper right hand corner you'll see a drop down menu for each season -- select 2008-2009 from that list.

Non-conference games are with Nebraska Wesleyan, U of Ozarks, Rust, Wheaton, Cornell, Coe, Wash U, and Spalding (home and away).

A little bit of news from the SLIAC conference. Maryville will be participating as a full member of the conference this coming season. Post season and all. Only two AD's were even interested in bringing this up for discussion. So thats as for as it went. Maryville will be allowed to start offering full rides to athletes immediately upon completion of their respective sports season.

The SLIAC has excepted Spalding in to the conference. The 2009-10 season will be a home and home as non-conference games, with the following season games being counted towards standings. Beginning in 2011-12 they should, if everything goes right, be full members.

With what has transpired and how it was approached, this should be the year of the Saints.

Bring 'em on.

We don't know much yet about new players coming to Maryville, so it may be premature to put the bullseye on their back. Maryville did finish the season strong last year and, if I remember correctly, didn't lose many key players, so they are definitely a strong contender. Still, FU should be favored in my thinking, or at the very least should share the bullseye. Our good buddy fcnews loves to divert attention from his team before and early in the season. But we like him anyway. :D

I failed to mention that MU still trying to get into UMSL's conference. From what I understand there are several schools that have applied for the vacancy.

Yjak - I know from a very reliable source that MU picked up Westminister's number one recruit. My statement bout the year of the Saints, was an all sports comment. I'm not to familar with the other basketball recruits that they may have. I know in soccer that they have won the recruiting wars over the other two STL schools. Could that be for the fact that fall sport athletes could be scholarship athletes by the second semester? Just a question. How many of the incoming basketball players were swayed by the same fact? It will remain to be seen.

I'll still take my Griffin's over any incoming freshmen class, next year. FU still has one recruit left to finalize. A 6'7 post player who needs to decide between FU and walking on at SEMO. I'll update when I find the final decision.

Summer league has really been effected by the price of gas. Most of the FU players from rural Missouri and ILL. are not making many of the games this summer.

fc, thanks for that clarification regarding "the year of the Saints".

If Spalding progresses thru the provisional process on time, then they will be Year-3 provisional in 2009-10.  Those games will be in-region.  When will there be a formal press release?  :)

I think that it was good to shore up the conference by adding another member.  Spalding has M/W Soccer, XC and Hoops, Baseball/Softball, Women's Volleyball and Men's Golf.  Maybe Spalding will add M/W Tennis to help the SLIAC keep the AQ in Tennis, (especially the men).

University  of Cincinnati Clermont is in line for provisional year #1 in 2008-09.

But, that is probably too far east!

Very true, although Spalding (which is located in Louisville) is well off the beaten path for what has been a fairly geographically compact conference. Here's what MapQuest has to say about Spalding (distances are not door-to-door):

Blackburn to Spalding  approx. 6 hrs.  302 miles
Eureka to Spalding  approx. 5 hrs.  312 miles
Fontbonne to Spalding  approx. 4 hrs.  260 miles
Greenville to Spalding  approx. 4 hrs.  246 miles
MacMurray to Spalding  approx. 5 3/4 hrs.  355 miles
Principia to Spalding  approx. 4 3/4 hrs.  289 miles
Webster to Spalding  approx. 4 hrs.  260 miles
Westminster to Spalding  approx. 6 hrs.  371 miles

Of course, that's only one road trip per year (usually) for a SLIAC student-athlete. It's a lot worse for the Spalding student-athletes, who will become very familiar with the scenery along I-64.

Not any further than Spalding

Actually, it is farther for most SLIAC schools. Cincinnati is another hour and forty-five minutes farther than Louisville for the Missouri-based SLIAC schools, another hour and a quarter farther for Principia, and another hour farther for Greenville. The time and distance is the same for Eureka and MacMurray. Only Blackburn would get to shave a little bit off the trip if the Beavers were heading to Cincinnati-Clermont instead of Spalding, and the difference (fifteen minutes) isn't much.

If Spalding is entering the league, it might be wise to add Cincinnati-Clermont as well, in order to provide Spalding with a travel partner. The eight original SLIAC schools could adopt a Friday/Saturday schedule similar to the MWC's in order to accommodate the greater distances. It would also give the SLIAC the ancillary benefit of having a tenth member to even out scheduling.
