Final take on Lisch - You have a father who was a D1 QB at Notre Dame. All three of his older siblings played D1 basketball. You have the oppurtunity to be apart of the team with your brother his Sr. year. The release on 1380 AM must of came from the family, not the type SLU would put out. Mrs. Lisch has personal ties to FU and said it was like Daniel going to a year of Prep School before coming to FU. We'll wait and see how their word is.

Daniel would of been a huge help this year. Instead he'll part of the next edition of FU basketball. He'll fit in well with this years freshmen class.

Add one more transfer name to the 2008-2009 roster. Chris Forrest (Willard H.S.) - member of the 4A State Runner -Ups in 2005. Scored 26 pts in the Championship game. Garnished All State honors.

Bunchtime - Thanks for the info. Saw the big kid from Belleville play in H.S. I think alot of coaches were scared off because of conditioning. If he drops some weight and in Webster's deliberate offense he could be a beast.

Hopefan - Do you know where Waller (Chaminade) ended up going?

Missouri (Titan) Q - Any news out of Fulton, Mo. you can share

After a year playing D1 Basketball in St. Louis, no offense, who would want to go back to a D3?

The answer to your question, "Who would want to go back [sic] to a D3?", is this: A redshirt who will be sitting at the far end of the bench if and when he becomes an active player and who will have no prayer of getting on the floor at all, except in extreme blowouts.

(The problem with your question, SLIAC Man, is that you chose the wrong verb in the first clause. The verb "playing" is not going to be applicable to Daniel Lisch at St. Louis University.)

Every year there are dozens of D1 players who transfer to D3 schools, and a key reason in the vast majority of cases is to get playing time. Not everyone is content to merely wear a uniform, you know. Some kids actually care about playing basketball.

To further expound on what Greg has stated, I offer the following post (#15633) from the CCIW room/board as additional evidence:

Recruiting News------

With the completion of all necessary paperwork and official enrollment, North Central has announced the transfer of 6'7"  Cameron Sweatman from DI Bradley University.

Cameron played his high school ball at Calvary Academy in Springfield, IL where he averaged 10.3 ppg and 7.3 rpg. In his senior season, he had 61 blocks. After his senior campaign at Calvary, Cameron enrolled at Lake Forest Academy for a 5th prep season in 06-07. While at LFA, he averaged 10 ppg. He then accepted Bradley's offer to walk-on last season during which he red-shirted and practiced with the team, but, of course, did not play. Accordingly, he still has 4 years of eligibility remaining.
He will provide some inside scoring help while being a force on the defensive end, particularly on the boards.

Cameron is the nephew of Todd Sweatman, assistant hoops coach at Illinois College of the MWC.

Hopefan, I was looking at William Jewell in relationship to the Nebraska schools that are joining.  183 miles from Wm Jewell to Concordia NE.  225 from Wm Jewell to Fontbonne.

I also wonder how many more GPAC schools would move to D3.   :-\

When I played (basketball) at Nebraska Wesleyan we regularly played William Jewell in both football and basketball. Its about 192 mikes between the schools.

NWU enjoys dual membership in both the NAIA and NCAA. They compete as an independent in the NCAA. This is due to the fact that in the 13 team GPAC, they are the only team affiliated with the NCAA in any way. In fact, unless things have changed drastically, they are the only NCAA DIII team in a vast area encompassing much of Nebraska, Kansas, and South Dakota.

As Ralph suggests above, with NWU already being associated with the NCAA, this might provide further impetus for other regional NAIA institutions, particularly those in the GPAC, to move to NCAA DIII.

Mr. Ypsi

These 'conversions' to d3 can only be good news for NebWes.  Unless Ralph (since the candidate may be Sul Ross, or some other Texas school) or someone can show otherwise, I believe that NebWes in the most geographically isolated school for overall d3 purposes.  Though I believe they are easily beaten by Finlandia for in-region purposes - since they are in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, the NCAA insists on Finlandia's Mideast status (their nearest Mideast potential opponent is Alma at almost 500 miles).

He's Rusty Lisch's kid? Hey, in addition to being a quarterback clipboard holder for the Cardinals and the Bears, Rusty Lisch is the answer to one of college football's best trivia questions: Which Notre Dame QB lost his starting job to Joe Montana?

The South Dakota nut has been cracked, as Presentation (located in Aberdeen, SD) is now in the D3 fold.

FC    Waller signed with Furman to play Baseball, passing up the opportunity to play D3hoops   -   it was in the StL Post a couple weeks ago.......

Two other isolated schools are Menlo (which I know competes in football and baseball.  Does Mills College count for these purposes?) and Colorado College.

Colorado Springs is a great airport.  (You land; you walk 50 yds and you are at the rental car desk.  You walk out the front door and you are at the rental car.)  Since Colorado College flies everywhere, they are not as isolated one might imagine.

Dug around the internet to find info on Fontbonne's recruit Chris Forrest - He was a 2nd team all stater at Willard, went to Flo Valley CC (how does someone from Willard end up there?), then on to Missouri Southern last year - a preseason Missouri Southern writeup defined Forrest as a 6'4" guard, very good shooter, will help on the perimeter.   It must not have worked out at Mo Southern though, because he had no varsity stats for 2007-08- don't know if he red shirted or got cut.

The high school background sounds great - will be interesting to see if he can contribute at Fontbonne after sitting out of game competition in 2007-08  ---if if if he is legit, his size and description could fit him in nicely as a competitor for that open 3 man spot in Fontbonne's lineup.

Hey FC tell pops he's got Farrid Coleman to deal with this year.

hopefan

Coleman was a good player two years ago - he and Whalum were an outstanding guard combo  -   I wonder if there is any chance Brady Greene may reappear also???    This board needs the spice that was missed last season with Mac Attack's disappearance......

Good work Hopefan -  Little info on Chris. On that Willard team, that lost to O'Hara (KC) in OT for the MO. State Championship, was another player that went D1 to the MAC school. Chris did like alot of kids do waited for the right call. He went to FLO after Coach Graham saw him play in an All Star game. He was All Region selection his Freshmen year. Graham then took the Lindenwood job and Chris was not interested in attending that school. He did not start the season at Mo. Southern and returned home at Christmas break for family concerns.

True 6'4 and good ball handler. Career 40+% 3 pt shooter. Rep as a good defender.

FU's always questioned bench will be much deeper this year. Another good class of freshmen to work in along with Forrest and Frank Scheetz. Nolan Zoellner is another player who chose FU after turning down his chance at SEMO. He recieved alot of exposer playing with Suggs. And, Bailey from Zelma is a 6'5 Fogerty type player who will help in the paint.

Besides the four returning starters, FU will have Sheetz and Ben Rapp returning. Add, Forrest 6'4, Zoellner 6'5, Bailey 6'5, Simmons 6'2 from Scott County. That's about 10 deep to work with. Good Stuff.

Hopefan - Greene is already back. I had a chance to talk to Brady before the Mac V. FU game last year.

Sliac Man - I guess in "pops" your referring to Coach McKinney. I'll pass on the info, thanks.

Kids are moving into dorms and fall sports practices start Saturday, it is getting closer.

hopefan

Greene and Coleman is a nice starting nucleus for Mac, but neither played last season, and that usually hurts   -  still Mac will be miles ahead of where they were last season with them rather than without them.

On Mac's outlook - Brady is more of an interior player and Coleman was the slasher trying to get to the rim. They should bounce back fine. Brady look in pretty good shape when I saw him last year. It is not like either one was a shooter who might need time to get their stroke back.

Sounds like Webster will be loaded again. Good chance to 3peet for conference title and a chance to host, again. I love watching games in that gym.

Yjak - I have a vested interest in this years women soccer play. Hope to meet up with you at one of the WU v. FU matches.

Three years now and not one sliac poster has ventured down to Branson to visit me. End of Sept. is the John Daily Celebrity Pro-Am. Friday nite entertainment is Hootie and the Blowfish and Loverboy. Saturday nite The John Daly Band with Kid Rock. Good event for my last weekend before coming home for the year. Next May is the Grand Opening of the New Branson Airport at Branson Creek. Then you'll be able to fly Southwest from St. Louis. It is the only privately funded commercial airport under construction in the USA.

There is only one women's soccer game this year between FU and WU -- on Saturday 10/18 at 5:30 p.m. It is a Webster home game, so will be played at the A-B Soccer Park in Fenton.

fc -- do you care to elaborate on your vested interest, perhaps in a private message since we proably shouldn't carry on a soccer conversation on this site. We can do it privately, or on the soccer board.

FC   any freebies for fellow posters for that September weekend???   ::) ::)
