It's not "Cal Poly" or "Cal Poly Tech". The California Institute of Technology is otherwise known as Caltech.

You Whitewater guys must be confusing that school (which is private) with one of the Golden State's two public technical institutions, Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo or Cal Poly - Pomona. The latter is John Madden's alma mater.

Upset of the season so far:  RF 66-57 over Stout. BD's 1-13 on threes while Falcons go 9-18. Hoeg has 26, Zylstra gets 14, Kossoris hits 13.

Farmer w/10 only Stout player w/double figures.

WW pulls one out by about 12 by outscoring P 44-22 second half (approx. numbers). P. up at half.

Osh. wins by 2, 67-65, after trailing by about 8 at half.

Point whips EC 90-66 in a game not as close as the final score would indicate. Point shot 70% from the floor in the first half and led by as much as 23. Lead ballooned up to 30 in the second half before garbage time set in. No starters on the floor for the last 6 minutes of the game. Point ran right at the EC press and the result was numerous open looks, layups and even a couple of thunderous dunks by Matt Bouche. 28 straight at the Quandt with Platteville up next Wednesday looking for 29.

Because we all thought Point had to hold on for that 24-point win! lol  ;D

Any word on the Oshkosh/ La Crosse game?  Was it one of those buzzer beaters that La Crosse put on Stout or that Stout put on Oshkosh?  ???

The Eau Claire news broadcast said that Conigliaro had a 3 pointer at the buzzer for the win that missed.  They didn't have any video or anything (just had video on the Point/EC game and the RF/Stout shocker)

was in platteville down 14 at half playing man to man we were warming up the bus, came out in the second half with a zone that befuddled p-ville clawed our way back into the game and took control in the final two minutes. still trying to figure out for sure how we won. p-ville has a very good team with good size and quickness but seemed to run out of steam. imo   GREAT WIN HAWKS!! ;D

Just back from Platteville.  It was a tale of two halves for WW.  Played at Platteville's pace and had problems defensively in the first half.  Down by 14 at one time in the second half.  Hawks rolled back into a zone after the intermission and got the pace of the game speeded up. Geo Riley had a lot to do with that.  If you are going to win the WIAC regular season title, you have to steal games against better competition on the road.  In my eyes, that's what Pat Miller's team did tonight.

I was very impressed with Crawford's game for Platteville.  He is definitely a thorobred and when he was on the bench with foul trouble the final ten minutes of the game, Platteville's offense definitely dropped a notch.

In a really strange situation late in the game, Platteville was rotating players in during a stoppage of play.  The officials put the ball into play only to have 6'10 Pioneer center Jeff Skemp not realize he was suppose to have come out of the ball game.  Platteville had 6 players on the floor, the ball is right in front of the Whitewater bench when Skemp realized he was suppose to come out of the game.  SO - he walks past the trail official to the Platteville bench and the officials didn't understand what was going on. No technical called!!!

Boy oh boy...

If you weren't at the Kolf Sports Center tonight, you really missed out.

Tonights Oshkosh/La Crosse game was a classic. So many memorable moments in the game, watching Gibson dunk over Werner, watch Werner maneuever around in the baseline, 3 after 3 after 3 in the first half...

At halftime, La Crosse was up by 7, after being down by one earlier. All of a sudden Jahnke led a nice spurt which tied the game up at 46.

Then La Crosse exploded...going on a 13-2 run, to take the lead by 11.

Oshkosh, at the time seemed there would be no way of coming back...but all of a sudden a man rised...

that man, was no other then Jim Capelle.

You remember him? You know...the two time-All WIAC'er...who was slumping a bit. Well...good news for Titan fans...bad news for everyone else...he found his stroke.

From then on...Oshkosh fired back, with a CONSISTENT offense and making big defensive plays. Then Capelle getting the basket and the foul, and making the unbelievable rainbow 3 to give Oshkosh the 67-62 lead...which Conigliaro made it a 67-65 game when he came down sinking the big 3. Then Oshkosh with a bad offensive set, allowed La Crosse a shot at winning the game.

13 seconds on the clock, La Crosse goes with Conigliaro to take it, and hits the back of the rim.

This is the win that Oshkosh badly needed. To see Jahnke, Capelle, and Gibson play up to their potential, and getting terrific minutes from Wesener, the Johnson's (Kyle and Jordan), it was a nice sight to see.

By the way, Brandon Brown for La Crosse (Freshman), watch out for this guy. He is good...really good.

I'm glad TVD admits he had some rats on the ship.  That's a start.

Not being given a thing

Titans earn a come-from-behind victory

By Larry Graham
of The Northwestern

Faith in the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh men's basketball team has been on the decline. The Titans were rewarded with a No. 2 ranking in the country according to D3hoops.com, but have failed to live up to the expectations.

"We talked about that and a lot of rats were jumping off the ship," Titans coach Ted Van Dellen said. "But what can we do? We didn't play real well in November or December, but it isn't about playing well in November and December.

"It's about playing real good in January and great in February."

And the Titans appear on their way after a 67-65 win over UW-La Crosse on Wednesday at Kolf Sports Center. Erasing a nine-point, second-half deficit in a come-from-behind win over the Eagles, UW-Oshkosh improved to 11-4 overall and 4-2 in the WIAC.

A short story about the head coach of the UW-Stout BlueDevils.
Most regular posters on the WIAC pages I am sure have figured out that my partner and I own a chain of convenience stores in western Wisconsin. We run the stores out of a couple offices located in our store in Menomonie which is a couple blocks from the Stout campus.
Eddie Andrist is a friend of mine, and most days he stops in for a cup of coffee and we shoot the breeze.
On Wednesday he came in the back door and asked "Bob, do you have a jack?" I said "What's going on Ed?" He said "Come out and take a look."
Outside our back door is where the air hose is. Sitting there was a 10 year old rusted out sedan with 2 completely flat front tires. Standing there was a middle age woman who looked sad, scared and for all the world like she didn't have a nickel to her name.
"This is a tow truck situation" I told Ed. He replied "No, I am going to help her." I went back inside and gathered my things for an appointment I was heading to.
As I left, I checked in on the situation and there was Ed on the ground, his head and chest well under the car. I said "Ed, I think this requires a tow truck." He replied, "No, I am going to help her." I told him as I left "Be careful, you might lose a hand or foot or head or something."
An hour and a half later I returned to see the car still there but it had one good tire on the left front and now the right side was jacked up. About an hour after that Ed came walking in all dirty and greasy and the car was gone. Finally it was time for that cup of coffee.
So, here was another story about the D-3 conference we all love. Not on the court or field of play, but a head coach taking 3 hours to help out a poor soul he didn't know who really needed someone.
As he left my office Ed said " I gotta go, we have a walk through in a few minutes."
Remember this was Wednesday. Ed took care of this person for 3 hours on a game day against a major rival.
I thought this was a story more than 3 people should know about.

I think I was guilty a few months back of being critical of a post"er" who was complementing the contributions of Pete Warning.  I had replied how he has NEVER gone right shoulder on a post move and is a very predictable player.  I then challenge any poster to let me know if they see him go right shoulder on a post move the rest of the season.  Well I was at the Osh/LaX game and saw Warning stick it to me and make a right shoulder move (he still shot the ball with his right had directly next to the defender and ended up getting fouled).  Anyway, he played a solid reserve role in their win the other night and has noticeably worked on his game.

titansrus

Champ, are you sure you were at the LaCrosse game? Yeah, Warning had a couple rightshoulder post moves, but that was one of his worst games of the season in which he contributed decent minutes. He came up short on every shot in the lane: not typical Pete Warning. He also didn't do much on the defensive end. Yeah he's worked on his game, but those shots he missed he normally makes 75% of the time.
Don't give up. Don't ever give up.

I guess I probably haven't seen Warning enough over the years to have a good idea what's good or bad for him.  Just know I was impressed to see something different then right shoulder fake, come back left shoulder.  Good game nonetheless.

Good PR story BlueDevil Bob... now lets see if Eddie can transfer his graciousness off the court into guiding the Blue Devils into snapping their 3 game slide and preventing a breakdown like they had second half of the conference play last season.
