That's what I was thinking.  I expected RF to challenge for the 3rd spot in the WIAC.  Something must be going on with RF to make that significant of a drop.

Huge surprise that RF not ranked higher, this will be the 3rd yr playing together for some of them. Although Guerin is out?

Falcons scrimmaging St. Mary's tonight. 7pm at the Karges Center. Excited to get my first look at the Shane Manor led Falcons. Sounds like they are playing a much more uptempo style.

I have heard some very encouraging reports from practice.  Sounds like the addition of Manor could take this team to the next level, granted it will be a lot tougher without Wade Guerin.

Whitewater scrimmaged at Edgewood either Tuesday or Wednesday night. I don't know details, but supposedly UWW won a low-scoring first 20 minute period, then EC won a high-scoring second 20 minute period. That was using regular roatations. Then UWW won a 10 minute period using reserves. I didn't get the sense from the person I talked to that they were particularily impressed with UWW, but he did say they appeared to have a couple of key injuries.

RF is preparing for the season as if Guerin is not playing.

I am a little disappointed in the preseason conference rank, but with the way we played last year its got to be expected.

What happened with Wade Guerin?  I watched the exhibition game between UWRF & Concordia -St. Paul in St. Paul last night & he wasn't even listed on the roster.  Without Guerin in the lineup, CSTP won 80-72 & beat them fairly decisively on the boards.  CSTP is picked to finish in about the middle of the pack, 7th in the NSIC coaches' preseason poll.

Shane Manor the 6-6 lean, lanky, lefty forward, ;) will be a nice player for the Falcons, but he & 6-4 Jake Voelz were the only real inside presence for UWRF.   Only a combination of poor defense by CSTP, good ball movement & screens by UWRF, & exceptional shooting by JR sharpshooter Aaron Anderson kept this game as close as it was.  Anderson was 10-14FGA & 7-9 3pt-FGA for 28 points.  I would think that was a career high for Anderson.  Good luck this season!

La Crosse lost their exhibition to the Badgers:

Tony Mane was the main offense for the Eagles with 24, and Michael Hanson (Who's he?) with 17.

I saw a Michael Hanson play for La Crosse Aquinas at the state tournament a few years ago.  He was a 6'7"inch forward, could he be the Michael Hanson for La Crosse?  I remember him being a pretty good shooter, and looking at the 5-9 from long range against the Badgers, seems to fit his style of play.

Drake,

I made a case for them to potentially be a top-25 team on the appropriate multi-region page... because I think Manor may have a big impact.  The top 6 scorers are back, plus a guy who averaged 10+ ppg his first two years at Superior.

Now, I understand that there are only so many balls to go around... so with three 13+ point scorers from this last year, there may be something that "gives."  It may be that RF will become a more prolific scoring team.  I think Manor adds another threat... but will it be at the expense of team chemistry?

RF also has two other Junior transfers coming in this year, per their release.

FYI- I have heard conflicting reports, but as of right now I believe Wade Guerin will be sitting out 2010-11.  He injured his back during a summer tournament and had surgery late this summer.

Ill post if i hear anything else.

He's not on the roster and his number (34) was taken by an incoming freshman, so it doesn't look promising that he'll be playing.

Is anyone going to the UWSP Purple Gold game?  I won't be able to make it to Point but would like to hear a game report if anyone goes.

tomt4525

I'd love to hear some updates or a report from the Purple/Gold game as well, are PointSpecial or Old School attending?  Thanks in advance.

I'm 5 hours away from Point and OS is probably a good 3...  I think our best bet is frodotwo.

BTW, I did catch part of the Carthage/UWSP scrimmage a week ago Sunday... I just realize I didn't link to my comments on the CCIW board.  HERE's the post.

The comments were more about Carthage than Point, to be honest because there's a bit of a question mark (or at least there was then and still is in my mind... and I haven't heard differently yet) about if Jenkins is going to hang up the cleats after Saturday's game or if he's going to train for the NFL combines and not play hoops.

Thanks PointSpecial, I didn't realize you and Old School were that far away from Stevens Point.  I am a Point Grad that lives by Hudson, I will try to do some reports or updates for games in River Falls, Menomonie and Eau Claire.  I'm planning on going to the game at St. Thomas as well.

Yeah, since I moved away 2.5 years ago I haven't been able to see too many games, unfortunately.  I really like that some schools (River Falls and Superior, specifically) have webstreaming of their games so I can watch those, and it was great to see the playoff games at Point that were webstreamed too.

Who knows... maybe some day we'll have that for all the Point home games!

On that subject... does anyone know if more WIAC schools will be adding webstreaming for their games this year?

And I'm jealous that you'll get to see SP at UST.  I didn't make the trip to the old gym for the NCAA tournament the two years they were there, so I wouldn't have anything to compare it to... but the new one sounds pretty awesome.
