By the way... there's no audio or other media for the UWSP game... but there ARE live stats!

EDIT:  From the "Thank goodness this is a scrimmage" department... Dan Tillema just picked up his 7th foul.  He actually got his 5th and 6th within about 6 seconds of each other... with 9 minutes to go.  Harris also picked up his 5th a few minutes ago.

Looks like abysmal shooting... Purple is 3/20 (20%) and Gold is 1/15 (6.7%) from deep.

Make that 1/16.

That is some brutal shooting from long range.  PointSpecial, do you know if any of Point's players are injured for the Purple/Gold game?  I was under the assumption that Ziemer is playing this year.  I also remember there were more newcomers that were supposed to join the team that didn't play, I believe one name is Pohle, an out of state guy.

I am not aware of any, no, but that doesn't mean there aren't injuries.  Point's roster isn't posted yet, so we can't go off of that.

If we look at the story of the recruits...

Name   Ht.   Wt.   Pos.   Yr.   Hometown/High School/Previous School

Transfers
DeVon Jackson   6-0   175   G   So.   Milwaukee/Rufus King/Williston State
Jamie Mauch   6-4   215   F   Jr.   Mooreton, ND/Hankinson/ND State College of Science

High School Class of 2010
Adam Abegglin   6-5   205   F   Fr.   Krakow/Pulaski
John Johnston   6-2   175   G   Fr.   Whitefish Bay
Blaine Mueller   6-1   160   G   Fr.   Watertown
Scott Pohle   6-3   175   G/F   Fr.   Ballwin, MO/Parkway South

Jackson and Mauch both played.

Abegglin and Mueller played.

But no John Johnston and no Scott Pohle.  And, as you noted, no Ziemer.

Could be they're hurt... but 15 guys played and Point hasn't had more than 16 guys on the roster the last 3 years (16 in 07-08, 14 in 08-09, 15 in 09-10, though Forman was a mid-season addition).  If you add Jenkins to the 15 that played, that's 16 right there.  Now, there's a chance that there are injured guys in addition to that and there will be cuts of some sort... or perhaps they'll carry more players this year... I dunno.

Not that I want players to be injured, but I hope that Pohle, Johnston and Ziemer didn't play due to injuries.  Point needs some players to gain some experience for after this year when they lose Hurd, Hoelzel, Krull and Jenkins (if he plays this year).  Plus, Ziemer and Johnston were both pretty highly ranked in their high school classes, I'd imagine they have some game.  Ziemer was ranked around 18th I believe, in other classes, players ranked that high normally get D2 scholarships.  Not to mention, everything I've read about Pohle makes me believe he can shoot the lights out, like Giordana with 5 extra inches.  I wouldn't understand why these players would be cut or not playing since I've seen the players on the end of the bench for Point, and these players would have to help out more in the future.

Entertaining scrimmage from the Pointers tonight. By the end everyone looked tired and the last couple of minutes reflected that with lots of shots falling short.  Defense was intense as reflected by the shooting pct, especially from behind the arc. Looking good early was Jerrel Harris who made some amazing penetrations and layups. Adam Abegglen looked very good as well, smooth left handed shot and good ups too. Tyler Tillema did very well in the second half, scoring 12 of his 15. Dan Tillema was a little frustrated by the D by Nick Krull. Hurd's shot was just not falling and Scott Hoelzel was a monster on the boards.  There were three players out because of injury, Pohle and Johnston both were wearing boots on their foot and Ziemer is still recovering from a knee injury, and Matt Resch was limited and wearing a knee brace. Jared Jenkins was sighted in the crowd and announced before tip off as a team member, but the team picture passed out did not have him in it. I'm guessing that means he won't be playing, but I overheard a "source" talking that he is still undecided and will know more next Monday after the football team plays it's last game. What a dilemma for him, but everyone I talked to agreed that you just can't pass up the chance if it is there.

Thanks a bunch frodotwo....almost everything said there is good news.  I am extremely pleased to know Johnston, Pohle and Ziemer are indeed parts of the team.  I can't fault Jenkins if he doesn't play this year.  If he is going to get looks at camps then he should be concentrating on that.  I'm sure it is an extremely tough decision for him with how he ended the season personally and winning a National Championship.  Can't believe basketball season is already here, it's my favorite time of year.

Greek Tragedy

Back in the heydays when my work schedule allowed, when I was younger, and when I wasn't married, I'd travel to Point during the week and watch em play, head home to Sheboygan and get up at the crack of dawn to go to work.  One year we tallied the games attended and I was at around 45 games for the year.

Not anymore.  Instead of Sheboygan, I'm down in Brown Deer, which, ironically, isn't that much further to Point than from Sheboygan to Point.  I'm married now, so that's cut down on my late night trips to and from Point, along with weekend excursions to places like Northern Michigan, River Falls and Whitewater.  My work schedule has also changed, so that hampers my attendence as well, especially on the weekends.

New to this year's "excuses" is that my wife is also pregnant.  So, my visits to Point, let alone any other basketball facility, will unfortunately be few and far between.

I'm still running fantasy and pick em leagues in the WIAC and nationally, so have no fear, I'll still be on here and keeping up with things...just at really odd times when the wife is sleeping! lol

And to think you call my bowling Saturdays a weak excuse.  ???  Seriously, congrats on the pregnant thing.  I hope it all goes smoothly for the three of you.

The WARHAWKS scrimmaged Elmhurst last night beating the Blue Jays by five points (I think it was) in the first period and clobbering them by about 15 points (again, I think) in the second one.   The reserves also won a third period though it was just a ten minute one.

Warhawk......What does Whitewater's roster look like this year?  With all the chatter of injuries and off the court issues I am just curious.  I normally believe Whitewater can just reload after losing so much talent from a year ago, but with everything that has gone on before this year, it seems like a stiff challenge.

Point's roster is up on their website, no surprises of note.  Jared Jenkins is listed, have to wait and see if he joins them after football though.

In year's past, Point's listed roster has changed two or three times from the first time it's posted to when the season actually starts.  I'd wait until the season starts to see what the "final" roster looks like!
