The WIAC season gets underway tonight! UW-EC has lots of new faces, including transfers from UMD (Ivan Franklin), Whitewater (Nick Craggs) and St. Norbert (Matt Coenen & James Pfitzinger). The main returnees are Nick Bartlett (out with a foot injury), Amadou Fofana, and Marcus Ruh. Ruh moves to the point and will have a lot of responsibility for a soph. There are only two seniors on the roster.

Thanks for the EC update!  It will be interesting to see how those transfers get in the mix... EC may have more experience than it first appears if those guys can gel.

Were those St. Norbert guys contributors on their team last year?  I know that they have almost everybody back...  Maybe these guys just wanted a shot at some PT.  And do you have any other info about Craggs (I don't remember hearing that name from WW, though it would have been 2 yrs ago, right?) or Franklin?

East Beast

I used to get to watch Matt Coenen run the offense at Appleton East as a 4 year starter for John Mielke. He is a small guard but is a great ball handler and a decent shooter.  I think Gresz could have played him more but they were good last year and he didn't go down the bench unless they were in a laugher.  I am sure he doesn't care what I think.

Matt's bigger little brother Johnny runs the point again for East as a senior this year, and made the buzzer beater to get them to state and a win at WIAA last year before they lost to Madison Memorial in the semifinal.

Good guys from a great program.

Pointer radio show on right now.

I missed the first 20 minutes or so... so I don't have any new info about if Jenkins is playing or not.  However, when Semling was going over the roster for the year, he mentioned 5 seniors, so that appears to have included Jared per the Roster.

I'm hoping somebody else either heard the beginning part or actually was at the Hilltop!

Nevermind... Semling's talking about Jared right now!  The decision is not yet made.

Is he officially not playing to prepare for combine or was my source wrong?  I tried to hear Semling's show but just had music when I clicked.

He isn't officially doing anything yet.  If he didn't play, it would be to prepare for the combine.  The show finished a little after 7:00.

How is Lawrence this year?  Is Point going to struggle without Jenkins.  They've been tough in the past but I haven't heard much about how their going to be.  How long before he makes a decision?  I realize football just ended but lets hope he's not doing a ESPN special like Lebron.

Craggs was on the team last year.  He appeared in five games for a total of eight minutes and scored two points.  I don't think he was going to play very much for us so he's probably better off with a new opportunity in EC.

I'm too lazy to go look up the bylaws... but will he have to sit out this season for transferring within the conference?  And was he with the team the entire year or only part of the year?

Eau Claire wins their opener 77-64 over St. Scholastica.  It also appears that EC has video this year!

Nope.....  You only have to sit out a season if you have played for a school within the conference for two or more years, hence why Manor had to sit at River Falls last season.

That's right, I forgot the 2 or more year stipulation.  Thanks!

To round out the games from last night...

La Crosse dropped theirs to Concordia (WI) 93-81.

Story

I'm not sure how to take that one...  Concordia won their division of the NathCon, albeit at 10-6 with an overall 15-11 record.  They were picked second in their division in the preseason poll.
