Thanks, I thought that score looked weird when I pulled it off the front page!

Maybe it was the rigorous academics at UW-Oshkosh that caused him to move on ?

Quote from: UWBadgers on November 19, 2010, 01:20:16 PM
Or maybe he was academically ineligible to play at Oshkosh andthe Oshkosh staff was kind enough to keep that hush hush for Dan's sake. And in addition maybe his brother didn't have the grades to join him in Oshkosh but together they both could play at Point? People are always quick to rip on TVD for any mistakes but they never realize some of the things that go under the radar that he does to protect kids.

Wow guys, there's nothing like ripping on players when you have NO FRICKING IDEA ABOUT THE SITUATION!   >:(

These are college kids, let's give them the benefit of the doubt, not drag their names through mud.

Did it occur to you that, in "protecting" TVD, you threw not one student athlete but two under the bus?  Try reading point #1 on this site's Terms of Service.  You're making unsubstantiated claims, based purely on conjectures with no proof behind them.

Did it ever occur to you that you might be wrong?  And if you're wrong, you've slandered another person in the process?

And let me get this straight... in defending TVD in this hypothetical situation that you say might have occurred, you'd be doing the exact OPPOSITE of what TVD (again, in the hypothetical situation) did.  So, TVD's got class to protect a kid, but you haven't got any?

And besides, I thought it was the coach's job to take the heat, not the player.

And again, there's no proof for this whatsoever.  On the contrary, there IS substantiated proof that Dan Tillema was burned out after his one year at UMD (per Coach Semling).  After a little time off, he missed the game and wanted to play again.  I don't pretend to know what, if anything, happened while he was at Oshkosh, if he ever intended to play there or not, but whatever the case may be, he ended up at UWSP, with his brother, and was very successful last year, with very positive prospects this year and beyond.  By all accounts, he is happy with his decision, and we should be happy for him.

Having personally gone to a D-II school far from home to play basketball and not having it turn out the way I had originally planned, I can relate to Dan's situation.  I know how frustrating it can be and how it can affect you as a person and as a player.  I know I was greatful to have a new beginning and a fresh start and though things didn't pan out for me individually (losing half of my redshirt year at Michigan Tech sure didn't help, plus I was on some amazing teams at SP with lots of great players) the experience turned out to be a positive one for me, none the less.  I know that Kyle Grusczynski was much the same way when he transferred from Wisconsin.  Sometimes things just don't pan out at one school and it takes a fresh start to get things right.

Again, I can't speak for Oshkosh, but I know at Stevens Point, they're looking for a certain type of player, but more importantely, they're looking for a certain type of person.  It isn't an accident that so many families have made their way through the program over the years (the Bennetts, the Kalsows, the Krulls, the Grusczynskis, now the Tillemas).  When you have a certain type of person (a common theme among families), they fit well in the system.

That isn't to say, at all, that the other WIAC schools aren't like this.  One of the things that makes this conference great is that it has teams led by great basketball minds who are great people too and carry themselves (and lead their programs) in the right way.  Nobody's perfect and there are mistakes from time to time, but by and large, the programs run from the top down and are a reflection of the coach.  And we've got some great ones in this league.

Enough of my diatribe.  Let's try to keep things positive here and not bring people down.  It serves no purpose.

Even I, with my "unrigorous" UW Stevens Point education (BS mathematics) know that.

Are there any homes fro sale in Point?  I am moving my family there ASAP.  It sounds like heaven.  ::)

They play Lawrence this week which I thought (wrongly) was their opener.  Let's see if they bounce back.  I haven't talked to Coach DePagter about the game but I am sure that he is treating it as their Super Bowl again this year.  ;)

Trailing by five points, 51-46, with three minutes to go in the first half the WARHAWKS rallied and a three pointer from Chris Davis knotted the score 51-51 at the half.  Both teams shot lights out in the opening stanza with Defiance shooting 59% (11-13 three pointers) and the WARHAWKS hitting 62% (7-11 three pointers).  The WARHAWKS largest lead was eight 21-13 in first five minutes and five was Defiance's largest spread.  The WARHAWKS had an early lead in the second half but Defiance went ahead with 16 minutes to go and held the lead for next six minutes.  Antione Bryd's three pointer tied the game 75-75 and after Defiance missed three consecutive shots a free throw from DJ Danzler put the WARHAWKS on top.  Defiance tied the game once after that as the WARHAWK lead grew to as many as eight points before the game finished 95-91.

Danzler and Davis each finished with 28 points to lead the WARHAWKS in scoring.  Alex Edmunds add 16 and led the team with 9 rebounds.  Bryd finished in double figures with 11 points.  Danzler also had five assists.  Lucas Burns gave the team a boost off the bench finishing with 7 points in 11 minutes of play.

The WARHAWKS will take on Wheaton who defeated Covenant 77-40 in today's championship game.

Let's just say UWO's offense was, well for lack of a better term, offensive to say the least.  I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more scoreless droughts as the season goes on unfortunately......

This is a repost from last year non-conference.  If I have some time, I plan to compile this again for 2011.

I apparently didn't repost it after the final 3 games (which the WIAC won), so that would bring the D-III record to 52-12 (.8125) and overall to 63-17 (.7875).
