Point beats St. Johns 78-51

Both teams shot 50%+ and 40%+ from 3... but SP made 12 3's to SJU's 7 and shot 15 more shots, making 11 more.

Both teams were terrible from the charity stripe, SJU was 4/11, Point was 4/8

It was a balmy 24 degrees when I left home tonight, so the lake is still open. Couple more days of swimming left.

UWS men beat Gustavus Adolphus at the buzzer with a three-point shot from Ben Aalfs. I missed the game lounging at Gronks over an enormous mushroom and swiss burger, wouldn't you know. Sounds like it was a pretty exciting game...We play UMD Tuesday (Tuesday?) Beat them in a stunner last year; would be nice if we could make it two years in a row.

Men's hockey gets a W; women don't. Women's basketball wins two at the Crown College tournament. I contend the women's 77-40 loss to the Badgers (basketball exhibition game) was a moral victory.

I was in Menomonie a couple weekends ago for a program at the Mabel Tainter. Expected to see you there, Stoutguy, but you must have been burned out after calling the afternoon high school football game. Northwestern bowed out that day, too. People up here are still in shock, I think

Anyway, we're excited about the new coach. The players I've had a chance to talk to like him. He's a Ladysmith product, so it's almost like having a homer. I would think he would have a leg up on scouting, since he knows the backroads, already.

Heck of a game.  Watched it on ifan.  At one point, Jackets were up by 17 in the first half, couldn't miss a shot.  Must have taken the first 20 minutes of the game for Gustavus to get warm (do they still have fire pits in the locker rooms?)...Alot of teams would have packed it in after the first half, but they sure put up a fight.

RF trailed NW 33-32 at half, but went on 12-0 run, fueled by Anderson's 4/4 three shooting, midway in 2nd half. RF shot 51%. Anderson w/15, Voeltz w/14 led scoring.

Tuesday nite at UST may show whether Falcons will rise in the WIAC this season.

I'm almost positive it's "Chas" Cross.  But you have Chad, and the UW-Platteville boxscore says "Chase"...young Mr. Cross is going to get a complex!

http://www.uwplatt.edu/athletics/basketball/mens/1011/stats/2011mb3.htm

This is a kid that was pursued hard by a lot of CCIW schools.  It seemed to be a given last year that he was going to end up at an NCAA D2 school.

A really good recruit for Platteville.

The Warhawks make 17/17 f.t., a school record, and still lose by almost 30? What's with that? Who was sorry to have watched that one?

Check the minutes the starting five played Friday night and it will give you a clue as to what the problem for the WARHAWKS face this year.

I watched part of it online and Wheaton just looked better.  I chalked it up to relative inexperience on the part of the Warhawks (only 4 guys who averaged 10 or more minutes last year are on the roster, by my count), but maybe it is depth.  Interestingly, that's the usual rub on Wheaton.

Well, maybe that's still the rub at Wheaton.  If you look at the Box Score, all 5 of Wheaton's starters scored in double figures, accounting for 86 of Wheaton's 92 points.

Question for you BW... I can see that Chris Vines isn't playing and I saw a retweet of his on Pat's d3hoops twitter account so I dug a little deeper and saw that he had surgery.  Is that on his ankle that he hurt last year?  And is he potentially going to play later this year, or next?  (I don't remember hearing that he wasn't going to play, earlier in the year, though I might be wrong).
